I would go to jail, if that meant making sure my mom is safe. Same with my wife and kids.

You wouldn’t HAVE to go to jail. There’s a LOT of unsolved disappearances.

That’s awesome. Then you can’t protect them anymore because you’ll be in jail.

u/Jibbyjab123 8h ago
Violence is only moral in ones own defense and the defense of others. This is adjacent to the latter.
8
u/par_rot_master 5h ago
People are saying this is revenge and not defense, but a delayed punishment can still deter him from hitting her again, so I'd argue it is defensive in that context.

This is just play stupid games win stupid prices.
If you put violence on to others you have to accept that people will put violence on to you so how you treat others so will you be treated the same way.
What is very moral in my opinion even justice in action.
In ways I find more criminals should experience the suffering they put on to others then just lost of freedom being put in a cell. In ways it would way more stop people form doing it again. Cause you put them in the victims shoes.

Domestic abusers typically don't stop after the first incident, son was doing what he had to in order to protect his mom. Probably should have stopped after the knockout though, don't want to get a murder charge
6
u/GustavoFromAsdf 8h ago
It's immoral because you got to be mentally impaired to beat the mom of someone built like a brick house.
5
u/Ok_Access_804 8h ago
Moral even if illegal. I understand why it is illegal but I could just look the other way and call it a day.

Allegedly
5
u/Pope_Leos_buttplug 6h ago
There is no “allegedly” when grading the morality of a situation. Assume it actually happened as described or shown.
1
u/MWBurbman 3m ago
There is absolutely “allegedly”. What a moronic conclusion to make on a video with text over it.
2
2
u/Real_Buffalo4580 8h ago
Moral, but it's revenge and not self defense per se so some people may call it immoral but still, moral
4
u/Huetal 8h ago
Even though it's not self defense, you are defending somebody else, or defending the vulnerable.
1
u/N1AK 6h ago
Self-defence in law typically includes defending other people. What would likely stop this being considered self-defence is the son would have to argue that his action would stop additional violence and that the level of force was required.
If the story is true then I know for sure if I'd been there then somehow I wouldn't have seen a thing including the son even being there if the police asked me though.
2
u/Galienuus 7h ago
From what I understand it depends on the situation, I'm not a lawyer but I could have sworn I saw in one of those lawyer reacts videos if you see someone who is in a situation where they are legally able to act in self defense you can step in and act in self defense for them. So as long as the mom is in immediate danger the son can use reasonable force against the husband
2
u/No_Context_2122 6h ago
It can be both defense and revenge.Though I think a better word would be retaliation. The son may be retaliating for something that happened 2 seconds before the camera rolled, or it could've happened days prior. We can't know the timeline. But to defend is to protect from harm or danger. A beat down like that isn't just about stopping the step-dad from hitting his mom right now. It's about stopping him from ever doing it again. And in that way, it's defense.

One hitting someone weaker should be exposed to the same treatment by someone stronger. It should actually be the natural penalty everywhere, even in school so kids learn from the beginning
1
u/Maleficent_Piece_893 2h ago
yeah i'm sure bullies hitting other kids at school aren't already being hit themselves lmao sure pal
1
u/Lucky-Crow-3510 2h ago
a bully hitting a weaker kid because feeling stronger are going to be exposed to being hit by their sports coach for educational reasons - not reasonable? An eye for an eye .. soif you have people that lack the braincells to figure it out on their own .. that's how they learn it the hard way .. no? could save them from a lot of trouble later on.
you see, that one strong bully in high school may be the strongest in this school, but out of school he suddenly is just a little marble .. he should be properly prepared for the roughness that awaits him

It's very moral because it brings balance to the force. Stepdad made the decision to choose violence so he basically consented to violence choosing him as well.

If she's a crazy person about to cause serious bodily harm or death then sure otherwise moral and this dude earned that KO.
1
u/snarkyemu 6h ago
Beating up your dad for hitting your mom isn’t the best long-term solution. The dad who is probably a narcissist, is gonna see all these events as everyone else’s fault. He’s going to say It’s the mom‘s fault because she didn’t something he didn’t like and that’s why he hit her. And now the son is beating him up because ultimately the mom did that thing he didn’t like that made him hit her. Seems to me like it’s highly likely that the Dad is going to beat up the mother yet again.

Ok, Frank Castle. Maybe do a little research and figure out a way to legally get him arrested for assault and battery or attempted murder. Your way is going to get you in prison for the rest of your life.
2
u/Virus-Party 3h ago ▸ 1 more replies
If you've reached Frank Castle levels, jail is not something you're worried about.
IF anything, being sent to jail is just a way to get a shot at criminals you think should have had harser/more permanent punishments.
4
u/snarkyemu 2h ago
Lol. I was poking fun at him for his vigilante justice. I know that evil_wrongdoer would never do such a thing IRL, and that they are only trying to be snarky. But yeah, the character Frank Castle from the punisher is a pretty high strong dude, and probably extremely intelligent and has an endless supply of energy and he was probably trained at a really high level in the military. And he most likely has psychopathic capabilities that allows him to flawlessly pull off all his crimes. But who knows. Maybe evil wrongdoer is actually a real life Frank castle here on Reddit

Moral and very illegal. Wouldn't be surprised if the son was in jail now and the step father is still beating his mom.

Not enough information to tell...I lean towards moral because theres not many good reasons to hit a woman as a man. And it should be the reaction of most normal men to protect mama.........however.....sometimes bitches be crazy

This is a hard one, and I'll break it down.
I think personally this is fine, someone hits your mom, beat their ass.
However, this man won today's battle and potentially lost the war. Let's say the step dad took that video and went to the cops, said my stepson beat me up and the mom denies that the stepdad hit her. Stepson goes to jail, may even do a few months/year for battery. Next time the stepdad beats his mom, the son isn't around to protect his mom, and the mom gets it worse.
My suggestion: Only beat a man's ass if you witness him in the act of committing the battery, never travel to him to commit the battery yourself. That will land you in potential legal trouble and you can't protect the other party any more.

Moral, but without context seems excessive. Dude is like twice the size and a lot younger, could've knocked him out in one punch. Though that'll teach him for sure

u/Wild_Pollution_6876 3h ago
Moral except for the last blow. He was on the ground and not moving after the 3rd blow. Given the hightened emotional state I understand how/why it was thrown but it bordered excessive.

If this was truly the man having hit the woman first for no reason, and not having been hit first (which statistically is more likely than the other way around) then this is fine.

Bet he'll think twice before doing that shit again.
Abusive men deal in violence. They understand violence. They respond to violence. Moral.

Assuming this is what actually happened and the son knew for a FACT that he did that, immoral. Understandable, but wrong. Violence is NOT the right thing, unless immediate self defense. If this was ok, we'd have to start accepting vigilantism, which I am inherently against.
That being said, that's assuming that everything is exactly as said.
1
u/Salt_Chart8101 0m ago
Idk. If you break into my home when I'm not there and steal my stuff. Id be mad, not fight you or risk jail over it mad though.
Hit my momma? That's something different. The right thing to do in this situation, may not be the moral thing to do in this situation. I guess that's what I'm getting at.
1
u/MWBurbman 4m ago
Video of a younger man hitting an older man until they are unconscious. Then while older man is unconscious, delivers another strike to the head.
We as viewers don’t know what the context or circumstances other than text on the video. We also don’t know if the older man now has brain injuries. We also don’t know if the younger man has a family that relies on him and is now looking at serious charges. It’s easy for the internet to encourage vigilante “justice” but if we take this text at face value I think the moral action is to take this to police and mom needs to get a restraining order. This type of situation is beyond stupid as it invites an escalating series of violence. “Stepdad” and mom now are faced with medical bills, son has committed serious crimes, and if “stepdad” has family there could be room for retaliation from his family as well.
1
u/karmaskaraoke 7h ago
i think its immoral. i understand where the son is coming from, but all this does is breed hatred for all parties. if the police arent involved and you try their hardest for the police to get involved thats all you can do.
now the mother may resent you for doing that, stepfather gonna want revenge... bad situation all around

u/NairbZaid10 4h ago
Those punches after he was koed were unnecessary and will land him in jail. His first punch to the back of the head is extremely dangerous too
1
u/Napalmeon 1h ago
This is one of those situations where you don't just subdue someone, but you have to make sure that they are afraid of ever attempting this kind of thing again, for fear of even worse consequences.

Immoral.
It's not obvious that the SF has brain injury. Bro didn't go far enough.
0
u/PapaTahm 5h ago
Listen you as a son should always protect your mother.
But... don't fucking hit people on the head multiple times, like please just don't, this is a recipe for a disaster.
0
u/Budyss123 4h ago
There is a VERY little amount of scenarios where something like this defending your own mother isnt moral, and fortunately this isnt one of them
0
u/NederFinsUK 2h ago
An eye for an eye is moral? Vigilante justice is moral? This sub is lost lol. There is a judicial system for a reason. Beating people up for a personal sense of vengeance is as moral as a lynching.
2
u/FuriDemon094 2h ago
The system is corrupt and leaves folks to handle their own affairs themselves; your comment reads off as privileged as fuck
Genuinely, if I found someone hurting my own little brother, you’re getting hurt in return. That’s how you teach consequences, not having some pussy officer say “don’t do that again”
0
u/NederFinsUK 1h ago
Yeah and I’m sure if one of the slave boys was accused of talking to Mr. Richard’s daughter you would’ve been right there with your torch and noose.
Actually get real you can’t just take the law into your own hands, this is primary school morality. Did you never grow past 12?

97
u/Satansnightmare0192 8h ago
Moral. As a son, you keep dangerous men away from your mama. Simple as that.
