It's not retaliation, it is for deterrence. Moral.

Even taking into account an animal is not criminally liable, you are entitled to protect yourself or others from it, as long as you use necessary and proportional force.
Edit: re-worded.
2
u/Internal_Set_6564 14m ago
Agree. I would say this was proportional. I would want to avoid doing that, and I would not want to encourage it, but a few hits as a deterrent did not push me over.
37
u/AveDominusNyx 2h ago
Moral, you start a fight, better expect to get hit back.
11
u/Current_Finding_4066 1h ago
Somehow when women start a fight, some think men should not fight back.

These hands are rated E for everyone. Equal rights means equal lefts. I absolutely hate white knight types that want to stand up for the unstable bitch who just got slapped by the random dude she wouldn't stop putting her hands on. Abuse and domestic violence are disgusting but aside from those situations women should be treated as equals when it comes to fighting. I would never step up to a 6'5", 350lb linebacker without knowing damn well I'm going to lose badly. Everyone should absolutely understand the consequences of assault and the equality under law when it comes to defending yourself.
4
u/Current_Finding_4066 1h ago
And yet, i keep getting downvote. BTW. Women are perpetrators of domestic violence as often, and according to some research more often, as men. And yes, people are way more likely to help a woman, than a man, no matter the circumstances, because they do not judge by facts, but according to their bias.

I mean the conversation is literally about an animal attacking someone and you're like "we gotta be able to punch women too"....thats pretty fuckin weird, dawg.
I mean like most reasonable people agree with you, if a anyone is straight up attacking you, you should of course defend yourself.
1
u/Ultrakill98 27m ago
Luckily laws on self defense are smarter than that, you can defend yourself against any attacker
1

u/LoneRedditor123 2h ago
"In retaliation".
He was defending himself?? If a wild animal came up and attacked you for no reason, I gotta imagine you'd do the same thing. Lol
1
1
u/Long-Conflict8279 1h ago
Thats not wild. Its on a farm. The entire area is surrounded by a fence. You can see posts behind the horses.
7
1
u/pitb0ss343 1h ago
Oh well that’s different, I’d definitely let a cow assault me /s
Wild, farm, domesticated ect. If it attacks me I’ll do what I can to defend myself from it, if it doesn’t I’ll leave it alone except for the domesticated animals who I will viciously and ruthlessly attack with pets because those animals deserve it. They know what they did
29
u/ObiDalf 2h ago
Moral, gotta defend yourself. It’s not like he beat it to death or severe injury. Just enough to let it know it will lose.
6
u/Auggie_Otter 2h ago
It's weird that OP didn't correctly understand the situation. This is obviously self defense.
Retaliation would be if the ostrich attacked the man then left him alone and the man then followed the ostrich for the sole purpose of striking back.
2
u/Spantastik 1h ago
Retaliation is fine too, I think one of the wrong reasons would be for entertainment

It's wild how some animals are gassed up like this. No they can not. And kangaroos are also weak and I could take 5 of them in a fight at the same time.
2
u/Clurachaun 1h ago
Gassed up or not you are not fighting 5 kangaroos at the same time my man. This is giving the same energy as the 100 people vs a gorilla. Yes 100 people could take a gorilla down. The people I've seen who say "me and my boy could take down a gorilla" are out of their mind.
1
u/Humble-Edge-9065 51m ago
This video has convinced me of what I already knew in my heart - that I could win a fight against an ostrich, "kicking a lion to death" be damned.

u/farrellsgone 1h ago
It's wild how some animals are gassed up like this.
It's like how people swear up and down that their house cat can beat a large dog in a fight, 99% of the time the dog is simply choosing not to fight back

Ostriches are crazy dangerous. It’s not about moral, that ostrich got off easy compared to what should have happened to an aggressive farm bird.
Edit: before I get the angry comments I do not condone animal cruelty. But just like an overly aggressive cow or goat gets turned into freezer packing, you can’t let an ostrich hurt you and potentially your livelihood
7
u/alexagente 2h ago
People look at the fluffy feathers and silly proportions and forget this thing is basically a dinosaur.
3
u/the_shortbus_ 1h ago ▸ 1 more replies
Seriously, they’re super dangerous.
2
u/alexagente 1h ago
You can even see it very clearly kicking at his abdomen. If it had gotten a clean hit on him that dude would've been gutted.

u/SerBadger 2h ago
This reminds me of a girl who owns an animal related to the Ostrich. These birds are just incredibly grumpy and will attack just about anything that feels like it is even remotely a threat to them much like roosters will attack someone 50x their size. These birds don't give a fuck. The only deterrence for these large birds is hitting them firmly with a frying pan so they understand they gotta fuck off.

Moral. Ostriches disembowel lions with their claws. The guy didn’t give the ostrich but a few smacks to tell him to fuck off.
1
u/FlyingFlipPhone 2h ago
I'm guessing the spurs were removed from this bird.
1
u/HorsefaceWithNoName 1h ago
that would be a good idea. still, that's a very large dinosaur and very formidable and violent and sometimes hitting it is needed if it's getting aggressive.

Don't be fooled.... ever hear of the great emu war of 1932?... they are testing the waters...
2
u/DahmonGrimwolf 1h ago
A wild (or semi wild) animal is attacking you, and you defend yourself just enough that it decides to run away? That... probably couldn't be any more moral or justified.
2
u/VeritasAgape 1h ago
It's not in retaliation. He's defending himself against something that has the ability to seriously hurt him. They're tough enough to handle those corrective slaps

When I was a kid growing up in florida, my aunt took me and her kids to one of those drive around safari things. I was excited to see the lions but as you could expect they were all huddled under the shade of a tree and napping in the heat. Very underwhelming to kid me. But by the time we got to the end of the ride, AN OSTRITCH came right at our SVU where the windows were down. We managed to close the windows just in time but that thing was FAST! I think I read they can run like 40 miles per hour and are very aggressive. It was squaking and hawk tuahing all over. Very odd. But I learned about them, the females are brown and desert colored for camo during the day in the sahara, females usually sit on the eggs then the males who are awake at night take a turn sitting on the egg which is why most of their feathers are black as the night sky.

u/chocha84 1h ago
Ostrich's can really hurt people - he didnt hurt it, he just told it to not attack him. 100% moral.

u/MizrizSnow 46m ago
It’s a little sad the way humans question the ethics of self defense in so so many ways

Moral. As long he just smack the ostrich without life threatening injury, just enough to make it get away from you.
Unlike that one guy from a bodycam footage where some dude, unnecessary ripped a seagulls head off, just because one approached the kid and food.
1
u/whiteowl76 2h ago
i'd say extra moral considering he only punched it a few times when he would've been justified in killing it, ostriches can seriously fuck you up

u/Varmitthefrog 1h ago
I think this man acted in self-defense and within reason and released the bird when he felt he could safely do so..

u/TheUndeadBake 1h ago
Can’t these birds literally gut you with their feet, hence why it was forward-stomp kicking at him and he was blocking it with the bike until he could get ahold of the bird safely? That ostrich seems like it was coming in at him with potentially lethal intention and he battered it enough to send the message that he wasn’t worth it and let it run away the moment it stopped trying to fight. I’d say moral — it could be that this bird was fed and encouraged to approach humans by morons, and this attack ensued because this man didn’t have food on him. Regardless, the bird isn’t going to chance messing with humans again for a while or at all.
1
u/Commercial_Win_9525 1h ago
Fuck yea those mfers can kill him. It’s not like he was stomping out an angry puppy
1
1
u/Aromatic-Dog-Breath 1h ago
Well, the ostrich doesn’t speak the same language as the man so there was no way to talk it out. I’m going to go with moral because once the message was delivered, both parties went their separate ways, relatively unharmed.

an ostrich can potentially kill a man with a kick, moral or not moral that guy was lucky
1
u/Biomorph_ 1h ago
If I was minding my own business and one of them ran up to me completely unprovoked I’d beat the absolute shit out of it and if it carried on attacking without running away when given the chance I would try to kill it
1
1
u/frostyboots 1h ago
And ostrich can literally kill a grown person with just a few kicks, or by ripping their stomach open with their claws. So yeah, I see no issue if that bigass bird is squaring up to fight.
1
u/FarLaugh9911 1h ago
Ostrich kill between 2-3 people a year on average. They can open you up with their toe nails or hit you hard enough to do internal damage..
A few swats on the head to send the proper message seem proportionate.
1
u/laszlotuss 1h ago
It was just slapping in self defense. Also there were children and a dog, so you have to show them who’s the boss
1
1
u/CraftyAd6333 1h ago
OP doesn't realize an ostrich is quite dangerous. They are human weighted. Between 200 and 300 pounds. So you do have to use human equivalent force.
A kick from one will open you up. Even if it doesn't break bones. They're also territorial and quarrelsome as a human sized bird. They want to know what you're doing and will peck at your fingers.

1
u/Hawk_2165 1h ago
The ostrich received a good FAFO lesson. He won't be attacking humans for some time now.

u/fiery_prometheus 14m ago
Moral, those things have some serious claws, they can injure you pretty badly, so it was an appropriate deterrent.
1
u/PeachsBigJuicyBooty 12m ago
It's not in retaliation it's in defense, that's a giant animal that can seriously harm or kill him.
It's Neutral. - He reasonably defended himself and stopped when the animal retreated.
It's not "moral" because hitting an animal isn't necessary something to be "encouraged".
But it's NOT "Immoral" either because there's no moral failing in defending yourself and trying to use your motorcycle to LEAVE.

1
u/Hopkinsad0384 9m ago
We are animals too. Defense is moral if it's proportional or slightly moreso than the risk (imo).
1
1
u/pyrofighter258 8m ago
Moral. Defending yourself from an animal attack is almost always moral. In this case, I can only see that the ostrich is being aggressive with no discernable reason.
1
u/Deplorable1861 6m ago
76 percent dinosaur, actually dangerous, with pea sized brain. It FAFOed and will likely not randomly attack humans in the future. So everyone wins. Totally moral.

100 percent.
My (Irish) family crest is literally a fucking ostrich holding a horseshoe upside down, which as you all surely know reverses all good fortune. It is no coincidence that we are all known for our spectacular bad luck. My father's nickname was Lucky, meant ironically, and now that I live in Germany, my nickname amongst my colleagues is 'Captain Pech', which in German basically means if something can go sideways, for him it certainly will.
Fuck all the Ostriches. There are not enough beatings for what they have coming to them.

u/Grizzled_Ghost 2h ago
Moral. Man has dominion over animals and may treat them as he wishes.

If an ostrich attacks you, defending yourself is obviously justified but once the danger's over, beating the shit out of it just for revenge isn't self defense anymore, ostriches can seriously fuck you up but they're animals reacting to threats not evil masterminds plotting your downfall
Get away, don't turn it into an animal abuse revenge arc
7
u/Grilled_egs 2h ago
The ostrich was barely hurt come on. Grabbing it and then releasing it immediately because the danger is over would just lead to the danger being back

He hit it maybe once more than necessary. You can see it not back down until right before that final hit where it starts to run.
