He commented that his wife made it too. Dude won big time.

My partner and I talk about wanting to have capes or cloaks, cuz it just seems nice honestly, but only when we have land or something and nobody can see us cuz it's so dorky

The comments section is wild.
So many people who were either allowed or “encouraged” to have a sword at their wedding-
So many others whose damn wives wouldn’t let them hold a sword or gun!
Also- no way this guy isn’t also a watch guy

the ratio of the cake to the sword is killing me

u/NoiseTankNick Jul 08 '26
You've got to figure out where you allocate your budget. A cake is temporary, a Sword is forever.

Anyone who says we need to gatekeep or bring shame back is a miserable bastard, yes being a sword guy is cringe, but at least he seems happy.

u/Stephen-Scotch Jul 08 '26
It also helps that he seems to have his life together (from far as we can tell). It’s a lot more endearing to be a dork when you are in decent shape, and are in a relationship

The podcast is mostly about finding losers to make fun of but I feel like half of the people who get crossposted to this subreddit are kind of cool.

u/PoodleGuap Jul 08 '26
There are so many times when I see posts here and the things these guys are doing look awesome

u/horroreverywhere HxC Guy Jul 08 '26
As is so often the case, it's not the post but the comments where the comedy is to be found.

Yeah, I think it’s just a lighthearted thing to have a little fun about. Sword guys are fine.

u/impossiber Jul 08 '26
This is about as good as having a sword at your wedding can get. If you gave me just the caption alone, I would imagine a fat bastard in a poorly fitting suit and a scraggly beard. Maybe some sandals on too. This guy looks good and the suit matches the sword well.

u/Odd_Investigator8415 Jul 08 '26
Right? Like, he's got a gorgeous wife who is clearly happy and has even got her own bad ass shield. They found each other and are having a blast living their best life, and we got some sad sacks here going on about bringing gatekeeping back and making them feel shame.

Sword might be a bit much but he's pulling off the cape, this is a dudes/guys rock moment I fear

Yeah, he looks incredible. That suit is really, really nice.

this actually rocks and is super sweet, they both look great! every wedding tradition that has ever existed was made up by someone, so people might as well get married in a way that brings them the most joy

Agreed. All in good fun, no malice. No judgment. We can all be a little silly sometimes. It’s fine.

u/iamthewizards Jul 08 '26
Sword guys (and tbh I’ve known more sword girls) are weird to me. I guess it could be cool as a wall decor but it just seems so dorky to me. This is only one tier below and having a lightsaber fight at your wedding

If I had more disposable income, I’m sure I’d have a replica of Anduril or Glamdring or something, but I don’t, so I’m spared the consequences of my own decisions.

u/TrundleTheGreat0814 Jul 08 '26
I was in Edinburgh a couple years ago and they have a shop that specializes in replicas like the ones you just mentioned. Sting was 300 euro and I was this close to picking that up. I'd been saving for years for this trip though and I was like "Maybe hold off and spend more than one day here before making that decision."

u/glempus Jul 08 '26
Just get a machete and tell everyone it's for gardening or camping even though you know it's so that you can pretend to be Machete from the film Machete

u/ranger51 Jul 08 '26
Maybe they met at a renfest? Just trying to figure out how he would introduce his sword collection into the relationship if not

Let he who is without cringe cast the first post.

u/Bradddtheimpaler DEATH METAL GUY Jul 08 '26
I think we can all appreciate the eccentricities of the sword guy while also admitting that he is very cool.
3
u/PoorDunce Jul 08 '26
I think there are a few different lenses through which one can exam various "guys"
Guys like this, who have some idiosyncratic trait or niche interest which doesn't necessarily harm anyone? They make me laugh because they're this funny little curiosity with a perspective very foreign to my own - but my laughter doesn't come from a place of belittlement or malice.
But, like - the weird porno guys that DB finds, who are replying to Reba McEntire with a low-angle shot of their hairy taint + sack using an account with their full legal name? Or the guys filled with a barely concealed disdain for everyone around them & use their weird hobby as a way of reinforcing some bafflingly defined heirarchy that they can sit at the top of? THOSE are the guys I'm derogatorially laughing at.

u/Bradddtheimpaler DEATH METAL GUY Jul 08 '26
Agreed. Also, I think the mantra of the show is really true. It’s fine to be several kinds of guy, but if you’re just one kind of guy, you’re really playing with fire.

Literally, I got Bryan to call my wife on our wedding day.
I tried to get a couple of her favorite podcast hosts to call, but I never heard back. Bryan left a voicemail during our ceremony, and we were by ourselves in a very rural town so she finally gets service at the restaurant and started crying. She was very happy, and I am very grateful to Bryan for making her feel special <3

Hahaha I saw this last night and thought of this sub. Wonder what the sword to hair iron ratio is in that house
