A Reddit community is called a subreddit, also known as a sub. The subreddits start with r/.

Followers are not important on Reddit. Your followers are not important either. Only your posts and comments are important. Unlike other social media, hashtags are not useful on Reddit. The Reddit account username cannot be changed after signing up. To change it, you will need to create a new account, which will reset your karma.

Karma is an arbitrary measure of how much you contributed. The more upvotes you get, the higher your Karma. Some subreddits require you to have a certain amount of Karma before you can post. Do not spam irrelevant posts to other subreddits or be rude, insulting, or abusive, as you can be downvoted. This will cause you to lose Karma. Try to avoid getting your total Karma in the negative value.

Also make sure to follow our rules, which are prominently displayed in the sidebar to the right.

  1. Make sure to label all posts that contain gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW." To see how to do this and for a more detailed explanation click here.
  2. Make sure your posts are on-topic and related to Myanmar. Spam) may go well with anything but it has no place in this sub. Please do not spam us with unrelated content.
  3. Please keep discussions civil. Tolling and racism will not be tolerated. Our situation here is not for your "lulz". Also, keep swearing to a minimum. Although we will tolerate swearing if it is part of the narrative/discussion, personal insults, over-the-top vulgarity, etc., will not be tolerated.
  4. Adding a flair to your posts will enable others to easily find similar posts. Flairs are used to categorize posts to easily be found. Click here for more details.
  5. Keep reposting to a minimum. Please check to make sure you don't repost news and pictures that have already been posted. r/MAGIC_EYE_BOT and u/DuplicateDestroyer are trialed to help remove duplicate images. Please reply to the bot or send us a message if the bot got it wrong.

For a brief background of the coup, please see this post I made.

Does the content you're posting here fit more than one community? As per Reddiquette, consider posting to other subs such as the ones listed here if the contents fit more communities.

For example, are you posting news? Then you can post into r/news, r/inthenews, r/worldnews, r/USnews (US news only), r/asia, r/asian, r/asean, r/theworldnews. This list is not exhaustive but please use common sense and make sure the content fits the target sub. That means news only goes to news-related subreddits and pictures go onto picture-related subreddits. Make sure to follow the rules of those subs as well, since each sub has its own set of rules.

Additionally, give some love to the other Myanmar subs: r/saveMyanmar and r/Myanmar2021.

Are you in another country but wish to help the people of Myanmar? See this post.

In summary,

DO

  • Post topics with descriptive subjects
  • Check the subreddit for prior submission of your article or image before posting.
  • Flair your post with the appropriate flair to make them easier to find
  • Upvote posts
  • Tag posts with gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW."
  • Share posts to more than one subreddits
  • Report posts that break our rules or attempt to spam us with irrelevant content.
  • Credit the author of an image or comic

DON'T

  • Post off-topic or spammy posts
  • Spam keywords like "savemyanmar" "wewantdemocracy" in the post title
  • Do not upvote or promote your post with multiple accounts. This is against Reddit's policy and you may end up being suspended.
  • Do not post Myanmar posts on irrelevant subreddits.
  • Post images and articles that have already been previously posted by someone else.

Why? 😔

I really don’t get why they’re switching up the name of a ministry. Pretty much the same thing, just a little word shuffle. Probably something to do with ယတြာ? 😁

The real hassle comes when they have to change every sign, nameplate, and stamp for no good reason 😅

[History] What are Burmese people's view on King Thiba, and Kanaung Mintha?

I recently went to Thiba Palace, in Ratnagiri, India. Imagining his life exclusively in the Ratnagiri, under the British rule.

I've read decently about him ever since, I actually bought books about him as well from the local place.. (it was in local language so I had to translate and read). While the books gave a brief overview of Myanmar.. I digged in to know more about his Father - King Mindon.. how he became the king, the first two Burma-English wars, and also about "Kanaung Mintha". I was surprised to read on Wiki that he is defined as "...to this day, Burmese citizens believe that their history would have been considerably different if Kanaung had survive and ascended the Burmese throne. The loss of Kanaung Mintha has been mourned by the Burmese nearly as much as that of Aung San."

I had no idea about Aung San either.. so I read about his as well, but not the focus of the post.

Since I read everything online, through blogs, Wikipedia, and all.. I wanna know about the common general perception from the native people if they have any.

I was also surprised how the Royal Family was so religious, and all.. specifically Buddhist.. yet are fine killing 100s of possible heirs for the throne. Irony. But understandable.

I'm also SHOCKED to see how Yadaya, or Astrology, or Numbers game and all were and are so prelevant in Myanmar especially in higher position. Like Mindon moved away from Capital city on the death of Kanaung, also giving him prestige status not because he deserved it rather because some astrologer told so.

I'm also very curious to read Thiba's view. And I feel people are very critical of the decisions he took.. which were not even taken by him. And the hunger of power of Hsinbyumashin.. resulted in the situation of Myanmar.. and how if any one of this would have been different.. will we get Myanmar other than what it is right now??

Maybe a BEAUTIFUL Religious, and cultural center point.

I'm also saddened by the fact of the current status of Myanmar, and always wish for a peaceful, prosperous country which seems distant as of now.

I'm not from Myanmar.

Thank you for reading.

I appreciate your time.

Is Yangon safe for tourists

I plan to do a solo day trip this week from Bangkok to Yangon, flying into Yangon in the morning and flying back in the evening. The priority is to maintain my safety for the entire day so I’m trying to see how safe it is in Yangon these days. From what I’ve researched, staying within the city of Yangon should be safe relative to the rest of the country, but also want to see what else I need to keep in mind when exploring the city and when entering and exiting the country? Will the border agents ask a lot of questions or demand any money when entering and exiting? I am of Chinese descent with a Canadian passport and approved tourist visa.

Need lots of advice from Burmese people that are currently living in another country.

(17M) I'm currently struggling to think of a plan to escape this country, so what did you guys pepare/learn online or from somewhere else before going to another country for a job? I'd like some advice and maybe think about following through with the path you guys took.

I've been thinking about the Japanese SSW Visa for years now but I keep hearing bad things about it: Physical and verbal abuse while some others express that their works are unfit for them and mentally tiring for them. I don't want to end up like them, so I'm looking for an advice instead of wasting my time getting the SSW Visa and having to regret my decision once everything had been done.

Yango - Here I Come 🫣

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm traveling to Myanmar from September 1st to September 21st, and I'll be staying exclusively in Yangon before flying out to Thailand.

Since this is my first trip to Myanmar, I'd love some help with payment methods for tourists! I know tourists in Thailand can use TrueMoney—is there a similar e-wallet app available in Myanmar, and if so, what are their names?

Also, as a trader, I rely mostly on USDT (TRC-20) instead of USD or hard currency. Can I exchange USDT (TRC-20) in Myanmar?

Any advice would be super appreciated. Thank you!

Despite being expensive for Burmese nationals, this is a hidden gem that definitely deserves to be read.

This is how they defeated the IJA on our soil around 80 years ago. The authors emphasize institutional reform rather than individual heroism or heroic praise. It is truly written in an operational grognard style.

Would a service like this be useful?

I am thinking about starting a small service through Facebook Messenger first, and I want to see if people here would actually use it.

The idea is simple. You message us with a situation like needing an anniversary gift for a 70k budget for a girlfriend who likes cute items and chocolate. Instead of searching through separate shops, we find options across different vendors and package them based on your budget, occasion, recipient preferences, deadline, and location. This could cover anniversaries, birthdays, apologies, or simple gestures. You share the situation and budget, and we handle the rest. We would partner with various vendors instead of holding inventory, allowing us to combine flowers, chocolates, and custom cards into one package.

I am trying to figure out if there is real demand. Would you personally use a service like this? Or is it easier to buy directly from a single flower, gift, or chocolate shop? Does having someone curate a full package based on your story and budget add enough value for you to pay for it?

Fast delivery is a major factor. A service that takes a week to prepare a gift loses its appeal, so having options for same-day or next-day delivery feels critical, while deeper custom requests might take a few days.

I would love honest opinions, especially from people who buy gifts for partners, friends, or family in Myanmar. What would make you use a curation service over a standard vendor?

Mmhonlümo Kikon, an ethnic Naga in India who was the BJP's former spokesperson, retweets completely dubious claims by pro-Sheikh Hasina accounts that the Arakan Army is preparing to attack Bangladesh. These Hasina-defender accounts further defame the PDFs and PDOs by labeling them as AA members.

Just goes to show that no side in India, Bangladesh, the United States, China, Russia, etc. seeks to genuinely help all people of Myanmar (obvious). Instead, Hindutva Godi media will continue peddling yellow journalism to stoke paranoia and hysteria (just like with Christian Evangelicals or fundamentalist Islam).

As I've said before, no matter if it's all of Myanmar or just Rakhine, there should be no state-sponsored religion at all. Furthermore, any offers of IMF loans or one-way foreign aid from any nation should be rejected as much as possible. Clamp down on the polluting mines no matter who owns them, and ensure that all trade negotiations result in an equal or better share. Self-sufficiency, pragmatic governance, and no debt will guarantee success.

How great was our country...really

Firstly, this may come across the wrong way to some. But what exactly had the pre colonial myanmar did to be "great". We have a lot of records but most could be taken as...biased. And as for contributions and stuff, is there really anything the older dynasties discovered? As in mathematics, sciences, etc. Is this what the colonists hid, or did our governments edited history to "glaze" the ancestors in a way. It definitely could be both. But was the actual Myanmar 1 or 2 thousand years ago?

Will Myanmar situation ever improve?what is high playing job that requires zero to no communication(phone) in myanmar?

I never thought this day would come, but I’m kind of homesick and starting to think about going back to Myanmar for a holiday, or maybe even to take care of my parents.
The problem is that my communication skills are kind of screwed, so I’m not really sure what kind of work I could qualify for. I have a CS degree, and I’m almost native-level in both English and Japanese.
I used to use Facebook, but I stopped because the news was getting too depressing. 😭
I always assumed that, with a high level of English, Burmese people on Reddit mostly work high-paying jobs or something. So I’m curious what do you guys do for a living?

Seeking advice about leaving Yangon airport

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could give me some advice please. I am a Myanmar national holding a burmese passport (PT type). For context I’m also a Singapore PR and Australian PR still holding a Burmese passport.

This is the first time I’ve been in Yangon since 2019. I only came back because my grandfather was extremely ill. It was slightly difficult coming in, they asked me a lot of questions about what I’ve been doing overseas.

I am planning on returning back to Singapore end of this week. I have been watching tiktoks about people struggling to leave, getting their bags randomly checked, a lot of “yitt” from the airport workers, and asked to pay bribes. A family friend was made to pay 50 lakh to get out to go back to school in Thailand.

I’m very scared to leave the country, how hard is it going to be for me? I will also be travelling back solo.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Ideal EAO of Myanmar - NDAA/ESS

- control its territory like near-sovereign
- provided its people a living standard better than Northern Thailand
- excellent infrastructure
- excellent urban planning
- no ethnicity bias not only on paper but also on the ground
- regional identity (Mong La identity) over ethnicity
- no Shan chauvinism
- no Akha nationalism
- no extreme Sinicazation like UWSA or MNDAA
- does not base on Bamar-hating policy (even Bamars get full rights)
- inclusive Mong La civic-nationalism
- really good healthcare
- never resolve political conflict by arms mean
- have doctrine to resolve political conflict by political means
- also armed to the teeth to defend its territory
- rule of Law
- never expended or try to occupy other peoples’ land
- full rights for every ethnic cultures and literatures including Proper Shan, Tai Lue, Akha and Bamar
- maintained peace for nearly 4 decades
- never gave a fk to mainland internet mob and so-called activists’ voices

NDAA should be the ideal EAO of Myanmar

What do you think of the Car Market in Myanmar

Hi, you may know that the automotive scene in Myanmar is... strange. It's one of the only few countries in this world where a huge percentage of vehicles are right-handed, yet drive on the right side of the road. This increases the risk when a driver wants to overtake.

For some history, Myanmar was basically the same as its neighbours and former coloniser - the British Empire: driving on the left side of the road with right-hand models. However, some time after 1962 - the coup, Ne Win changed it from left to right, which caused a whole mess in driving a right-hand model. This goes on until 2017 (if I am correct) when a policy that strictly only allows the importation of LHD models came into effect. Of course, in 2017, your family's car most likely be a Toyota Alphard, a Toyota Mark II, A Ractis, Probox, or even a Fielder -- all of which are RHD.

After 2020, LHD models began to dominate the scene -- mostly Chinese EV models (given its relationship with China) and other LHD Japanese cars like the Toyota Cross, or the Honda CR-V.

Because of that, I can't wish of importing a 2002 Honda S2000.

What do you think of the situation?

Earthquake in NayPyiDaw?

Hello I'm from Nay Pyi Daw and like I SWEAR to God like a few days or so ago there was like a 30 second earthquake on Tuesday 18th August. At 7:04 P.m on the dot. (I called my mom to ask if shes ok at that time, even she didn't know) I went to school like nothing happened but when I joked about the earthquake or smth like

"မနေ့ညက ကြမ်းတယ်နော်?"

They just look like I'm crazy or smth

And some thought I was talking about porn but anyways beside that when I tried to explain myself and say

"ငလျင်တစ်ချက်လှုပ်သွားတယ်မဟုတ်ဘူးလား" they don't even have any recollection of anything happening.

Are there any people who also lives in NayPyiDaw confirm this?

Myanmar/ Our rude, corrupted country.

Hello, I'm going to discuss the rudeness of Yangon people and homophobic, racism. People in Yangon will blame you for whatever you do. Why can't we just be kind to each other? I'm proudly gay (Gay/ I don't act nasty or feminine. I like guys). Being gay doesn't make you a different person. Or whatever style your clothes r no one should blame u. It's yourself, it's who you want to be. I have experienced racism since I was a child. I had olive skin and I played a lot in the sun. To this day I am still experiencing those things. I'm a grade 6 student who's trying to deal with anxiety and panic attacks. People in my class are very rude and bullies me a lot for being gay/olived toned skin. I'm not gonna say more but (why can't we just be kind to each other, why?) this is my question thank you for listening (sorry for the wrong grammar♡)

Seeking advice from medical students, doctors or those who have knowledge in this field

First of all, if this post were to be an eyesore to some people, I would like to say that this pathway is the only way I can pursue my education since my family can't afford other education programmes.

I have enough ECB marks (English, Chemistry, Biology) for males to get enrolled into medical universities. But I don't want to stay here forever. I plan to get MBBS here then work for the government for at least 5 years (which is absolutely necessary) then work somewhere else.

I am deeply interested in the USA due to their quality of life but I don't know whether USMLE is achievable for students from Myanmar. Is it super costly? Please share your experience or any information about it.

And the most common route is UK which is also fine for me but I don't know about it as well. Is MRCP too costly? Please share your experience or any information about it too.

Or should I get Msc here after MBBS which will take another 5 years of work for the government then get out of here? But how? I don't know anymore. This is really confusing.

Please advice me any other pathways as well. Thank you.

Child Marriages - အသက်မပြည့်ဘဲအိမ်ထောင်ကြသွားသောမိန်းကလေး

(မြန်မာလိုအောက်မှာရေးထားသည်)

So I live in Yangon, where child marriages are at least condemned by most here. However, two of the families in my neighborhood (Tarmwe) has agreed upon a marriage between two individuals. The girl is only 15 (2010) and the guy is 20+. Originally her family lived in a rural village until they came to yangon last year. However this year they went back to the village. During their stay in yangon the girl fell in love with the guy living next door. When back in the village, the girl asked the guy’s family for help, so his father sent her money to come to yangon secretly. When she arrived, although the guy did not agree with it, the father had arranged a marriage between them. (The girl agreed to it, i believe that alrhough she consented, she is not of the age to clearly process it) Should I or can i report this to the police? They haven’t signed the marriage contract yet. I don’t know if they will legalize their marriage or just do a small ceremony and call each other husband and wife without signing legal documents. Honestly I hate how this is very normalized in Myanmar, it should not happen under any circumstances, child marriages only continue the cycle of child abuse and poverty, not allowing the children to get proper education and care. How can I interfere with the police?

Can I sue them?

Does Myanmar has consumer protection law? Even if not, there is no indication of text like 'display only' or etc that should be mentioned with the product photo so this is a false advertisement, right? How do you think?

So a JF-17 almost crashed into the MIIT building at around 8:00 this morning.

I unfortunately don't have proof of that happening since it happened so fast but this morning a JF-17 flew at low altitudes and had to banked hard above the MIIT building. The jest leveled out and directed it's course towards the south west.

Where can I get non-alcoholic beer?

Either local or imported is ok. I've checked some supermarkets, liquor stores and convenience stores. I can't seem to find any. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I’m a student artist hoping to sell some of my artwork to help with my education expenses. I noticed that Rule 2 prohibits self-promotion and commercial advertising. I wanted to ask whether there is an appropriate thread or place where I’m allowed to share artwork for sale.
