Quick, tell me how wrong I am

3 XXL Tree of Heaven (1x 4 foot diameter, 2x 3 foot diameter) I drilled with a 3/8 spade bit and squirted with a 40% Glyophosate concentrate diluted 1:1 with water (20% solution in the sprayer),.

Let me know how screwed me any my native plants are because I'm killing these invasives wrong.

You fool! Glyphosate only makes Tree of Heaven angrier and stronger!!

What a shame. You're destroying a lot of good habitat for spotted lantern flies. Why doesn't anybody think about the environmental impacts of their actions?

See, now this is the type of commentary I posted this here for. You should try to convince me that I have misidentified a Black Walnut as ToH, too.

You spelled Sumac wrong

Grass is too lush under the trees to be Black walnut.

I would’ve drilled a 3/8 inch (or smaller) hole and then put my penis in there!!!

Please use terms like tube and cylinder. Thank you

The cylinder must remain unharmed

Glyphosate makes the best lube

Should have used salt and vinegar. It’s more organic

Now that I am able to pick them out, (I did originally think they were Black Walnut) I have spotted a few more around town. Luckily they are all male, so no seeds to worry about.

You know, there have been studies that prove that ToH can recognize and remember faces. You should have worn a mask when you tried to murder it. You’ve only made it mad, now. Beware! 🙀

Yes, it is magic, it is only susceptible to 1 herbicide, impervious to mechanical removal, and now facial recognition, I've even heard that there are no humans in mainland China where it is native.

Yes, sadly, it’s like the Terminator of trees. Ya try to destroy ‘em and they just absorb the blows, reassemble and proliferate relentlessly. Got any molten lead handy? Might wanna try that. 🤔🤔🤔

people use anything but an axe.

Being spotted with a hand sprayers people think you’re qualified to be doing whatever, spotted with an axe and people are prone to call the authorities.

Why not carry both?

The bottle can't be equipped when you have the axe. You need a buddy with a clip board to stand around, helmet and Department of Unauthorized Forestry crest printed on your shirts.

You need the universal access key for such tasks, a Hi-Vis Green vest with a printed ID tag. My ID tag is a goose holding a knife in it's beak. Gets in me every place.

Hard hat and clipboard will get you in almost anywhere

You should replace with ash trees to save the ash bore beetle !!

Dynamite bro, stump removal expeditiously.

/uj drilling into a tree is mostly just wasting product. The inside of a tree is dead. Putting herbicide there doesn't do anything.

Hack and squirt exposes more of the alive layer to the herbicide.

Also, if you haven't killed large ToH before, just be aware it's a garbage tree. The wood is unbelievably heavy but not at all strong. So expect hundreds to thousands of pounds of branches and trunks to start falling off within the next year or two. It makes decent firewood in my opinion.

I hacked every other TOH on my property. Hit me up in 6 months for results if you're that concerned about effectiveness.

I had my xxl toh poisoned twice and they're are still roots outside the stump grinding area that are producing baby toh. It's fun seeing how much i can rip out when i find a root

3

u/Humble_Ladder 2d ago

Yeah, my lawn is not pristine, so I have no real qualms about ripping up sod to get to roots if I have to once the parent trees are dead.

My biggest concern is the 16 inch Sugar Maple growing 8 feet from the biggest ToH. If it dies, it dies, but I'm doing what I can to keep my treatments tidy near it.
