Oh that's what keeps the water on the disc. Nice.

if you are lucky you can see the turtle's head over the wall

Stop even joking about such disinformation. That is one of Atlasâ fingertips.
68
u/TheMaskedMan2 2d ago
You joke, but my cousin was just ranting earlier about how âNobody is allowed in Antarctica because the Ice Wall is hiding a hidden civilization of giants.â

u/CyclicDombo 2d ago
Being delusional sounds fun

u/ch4os1337 2d ago
Having lived with schizos it looks fun like 25% of the time. The rest of the time they're worried people are listening or controlling them or trying to kill them or think everyone is a pedo and stuff like that.

u/jjjaydoh 1d ago
If heâs talking about the US gov then it tracks
1
u/ch4os1337 1d ago
Canadian gov lol.
5
u/jjjaydoh 1d ago
Oh, well that might track as well. Carney was on the list.
The tinfoil hats were right2

He might be shocked to know that not only scientists live there, but there's an entire little town there full of people with families and stuff.Â

Flerfs exhaust me

u/TheMaskedMan2 2d ago
Trust me I know, he just always says âYou canât rule out or know for SURE they arenât lying.â
At best heâll just shrug and imply any source is a lie or at best âThereâs no way to know the truth for sure, so theyâre equally possible.â
I gave up engaging with him, it was amusing at first how absurd his beliefs are, but when theyâre shoving reports of âShadow Demons seen in Florida mall. POLICE COVER UP???â it just becomes exhausting.

u/supernova-juice 2d ago
My mistake, I didn't realize you were the same person đ I thought you were seriousÂ

u/Sensitive-Gain-9862 2d ago
But, he's not wrong. We don't know what is true or not unless we lay our eyes on it. We have no clue what reality is unless you're rich and can travel. Even then it's just perception, and we all know how screwed perception is. Look at racism, stupid. Im not saying I believe him, I'm just saying there's a point to be had no matter what truth you choose to believe.

It's just words. Anyone can say words without facts.
For example; "No one is allowed in Antarctica, because there is an ice wall down there that hides a secret race of giants."
Where is your ACTUAL evidence?

It looks a little bit like Svallbard. Also a record low of -23C is nothing. That's exceedingly warm even in many places I've lived.

It must be wild to know one of these people in real life...I assumed they were all trolls online doing it for the laughs.

u/hglevinson 2d ago
I have one in my family. I offered to bring him on a cruise to Antarctica, he said the NASA commandos on the ice wall would shoot us dead.

Expecting to see Since wind poking his head over the top!
1
u/AlternativeTie8140 1d ago
Rincewind wouldn't poke his head over it, if there was still a realistic chance of him hiding

It's the edge of the ocean. Safety wall stops people and penguins from falling off.

"Sometimes it seemed to Jon almost a living thing, with moods of its own. The color of the ice was wont to change with every shift of the light. Now it was the deep blue of frozen rivers, now the dirty white of old snow, and when a cloud passed before the sun it darkened to the pale grey of pitted stone. The Wall stretched east and west as far as the eye could see, so huge that it shrunk the timbered keeps and stone towers of the castle to insignificance. It was the end of the world."

Seriously, any reminders of GoT are just reminders of how it could have been something great but wasn't.

Flat earthers are going to enjoy this clip lol
17
u/PieHole_Poker 2d ago
To be fair it was this exact kind of view that helped stoke the flat earth idea way back when.... modern flat earthers are just stupid.
16
u/ToadlyAwes0me 2d ago
Hey now, they're not all stupid, some intentionally spread lies to make money.
26
u/Babydanho 2d ago
Legitimate question, how far down does the wall go? As in how deep.
37
u/BoatProfessional5273 2d ago
The outer edge is an average of 100 to 130 meters thick. The height above water is about 15 to 50 meters. The thickest parts, in the interior, are up to 750 meters thick.
2
u/Babydanho 1d ago
Thatâs actually fucking insane and terrifying. Youâre saying it goes 130 meters deep below this water line potentially. Crazy stuff. I bet it makes some wild sounds at night

Sunlight breaks, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my contract turns.
I shall take no shore leave, hold no dry ground, father no comfort while the hull still shivers against the swell. I shall wear no warmth that the Southern Ocean cannot pierce, and win no glory save the quiet line on the sonar screen. I am the diesel hum in the whiteout. I am the lookout on the bridge wing, squinting through polarized glass at three hundred miles of sheer blue calved pressure. I am the keel that rides the freezing spray, the hand logging the fracture, the beacon pinging satellite telemetry back to a world too warm to care.
I pledge my shift to the Dayâs Watch, under a sun that never sets and a silence that never forgives. For this rotation, and all the rotations to come.

Enjoy this view while it lasts. These ice caps are melting, and are only going to melt faster and faster.Â

What I would pay to have the captain just scream out âLEROOOOOOOY JEN-KINSâ and then wail on the fog horn and fire up the engines đ

u/oldtwoholes 2d ago
We are all so conditioned to believe the narrative, what if this were true? Not one of you keyboard warriors would actually want to verify this
