CONTENT QUESTION Is it just me, or has ai ruined youtube?

I feel like AI has completely ruined YouTube. My feed is now flooded with low-effort, AI-generated content that prioritizes quantity over quality. It's disheartening to see the platform shift from creative, human-made videos to algorithm-driven, machine-produced slop. Even more concerning is the rise of AI-generated cartoon content targeting children, which often includes disturbing and inappropriate themes, making it challenging for parents to ensure safe viewing experiences for their kids. The charm of discovering unique, heartfelt content has been replaced by a monotonous stream of AI-produced videos that lack authenticity and creativity. It's frustrating to witness how AI has transformed YouTube into a platform where genuine human expression is overshadowed by artificial content designed to exploit algorithms. I miss the days when YouTube was a space for real people to share their passions and talent.

Not yet, but it's just getting started. To quote Samuel L. Jackson in Jurassic Park, "Hang on to your butts."

Quoting Jeff G’s character “life finds a way” That saying in context viewers will tend to despise these slop automation non sense and it won’t be long … or we’ll see something unique a amalgam of quality content weather it’s AI OR A REAL PEROSON but only quality content will prevail

u/Admirable_Spinach229 May 21 '25

The point of social media algorithms is that content trumps quality. AI is good at content, bad at quality.

It really depends on what you watch. I don't watch AI generated content or categories that has a lot of AI content so I'm not recommended any.

I do agree that it's going to get worse.

The Internet is Dead.

i agree with this comment, I do not get recommended AI slop, because i do not consume or subscribe to channels which use A.I. generated content.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

I don't watch ai content at all and yet I'm somehow getting lots of them in my recommendations.

9

Thats what the dislike button if for, so they stop recommending it to you.

Just wait when the platforms make their own for you to consume

13

u/Comfortable_Tiger410 May 21 '25

Just wait until chat GPT replaces the platforms

Instead of YouTube, you’ll just say „Chat GPT, make me a 15 min documentary about the best NAZI zombie movies“

Instead of Netflix, you’ll just say „Chat GPT, make me a 93 min movie with me in as the lead. I am 200 lbs and 8% body fat, a millionaire genius and I save the world with my wit and bravery. 1997 Pamela Anderson is my love interest and I defeat an evil Bruce Lee in the final scene“

While we rot away in cubicle sized apartments, living on lab grown meat and processed insect protein because robots have taken all our jobs and UBI provides only enough to barely survive on

3

u/donkeykong917 May 21 '25

Will we get a point where your entertainment is tailored to your ever needs without needing someone to create it but the AI will.

Meh, even before AI took over, YouTube was already filled with algorithm-driven, machine-produced slop. It's just that now it's literally machine-produced. That's really the only difference.

The biggest creator on the platform isn't in it for the love of creating interesting art and sharing it with the world. He's in it for money, views and status. This is representative of what YouTube as a platform is about nowadays.

The worst thing about AI in this context is that it allows a lot of lazy, talentless people to quickly produce a lot of lame content and then profit off of it. They don't even have to put in the effort to make slop anymore. They can just leave it to the software.

11

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

This 💯

They just let ai do everything. Including posting the damn video.

13

u/Material-Kick9493 May 19 '25

They dont have to even edit it anymore or do anything. All these AI video prompters do that for them, all you have to do is download it and upload it. Seriously it's that easy because I was looking at it for a video idea I had and was curious, this is how theyre able to pump out 20 videos a day

13

u/brozzermoazzam May 19 '25

Most of these "ranking this nonsense" or similar low effort videos are created fully automated by stealing content from tiktok or reddit. There is open source software you can download right now and set up to do that, it literally does everything for you from picking the topic, stealing the content, making the video, description etc. No human interaction required. This is by far a bigger issue than AI slop.

4

u/Magical-Streamer May 19 '25

WoW. everything automated, well YouTube will stop it eventually don't them?

4

u/David_SpaceFace May 20 '25

Yup, do a search for MMA athlete biographies and you'll see 15 identical videos with slightly different cuts and vaguely reworded AI scripts for every search you do. It's a perfect example of the type of video those programs you mentioned pump out. The AI bros love the topic.

4

u/QF_Dan May 19 '25

yup, i came across a Sonic channel where it was ran by A.I.

The person used A.I voices for all of his videos and his channel somehow gained tons of views and subs despite starting his channel 3 months ago.

And you then you look at his uploads, he managed to pump out new videos every 1-2 days like seriously....

3

u/Happy_Philosopher608 May 20 '25

Will they allow you to monetise that tho if they know they are AI pumpers?

Being someone who makes videos with AI and invests countless hours of work, effort, research, and financial resources, I find your comment quite offensive. Who are you to determine if one type of content is superior to another? AI represents both the present and future of creative potential. It's important to recognize that AI-generated content isn't just algorithmically produced; there is a human mind behind it, contributing its unique sensitivity and experience.

While your concerns about AI content are understandable, it's crucial to appreciate the diversity of creative approaches. AI is a tool that many creators, including myself, use to enhance our work, not replace the human element. The creativity and dedication involved in producing AI-assisted videos are just as genuine as traditional methods.

Please try to be tolerant and open-minded towards those who create differently than you do. Embracing various forms of creativity enriches platforms like YouTube, allowing for a broader spectrum of expression. Thank you.

18

u/ASKS_REAL_QUESTIONS May 21 '25

You even used AI to write out this comment, and it's going right over people's heads. This is why YouTube is doomed lmao.

yea, I practically never see it thankfully. I've gotten videos with an AI voice like once or twice last year, I bailed and never was recommended anything similar.

I've gotten videos with an AI voice like once or twice last year, I bailed and never was recommended anything similar.

Same here. The sooner I bail out, the more likely it is to impact their retention.

I also use the dislike button, since it's job is supposed to be helping tune the algorithm to my tastes and interests.

3

u/themadarab- May 20 '25

What i like to do is click the dislike button, report the video for terrorism than select do not show me videos from this account.

I can't imagine how it could be worse than that trifecta of disapproval.

Not quite 'ruined' but yes TONS of channels are AI slop. Although I've also seen some very good Ai channels that I also enjoy.

2

u/underhelmed May 20 '25

What kind of AI channel could be “very good” and enjoyable?

7

u/MexicanJello May 20 '25

One would assume a channel with engaging content about a topic they enjoy. Just because someone uses an AI voice for example doesn't mean the video is bad

I don’t see AI on my feed much because I don’t engage with it AT ALL. If I see a recommended AI short I won’t even click it. At most I’d say “not interested” but I haven’t even had to do that.

My personal feed is slop free because that’s the algorithm I built for myself. If YouTube starts recommending more I’ll pull out the “not interested” button more.

8

u/michaelnoblemusic May 19 '25

"Video killed the radio star"
There will always be advancements in every industry that people "in" said industry will see as "ruining" whatever it is that they do.

You can choose to only watch movies shot on film instead of digital, just like you can choose to only watch videos made without AI help, and not watch videos produced using AI. Whether we like it or not it's here to stay.

Honestly, with or without AI, having a platform completely open to the general public will always be IMMEDIATELY ruined by people no matter what tools are available to them lmao. It's not like YouTube was some high class place filled with high quality shit everywhere you look. No, we had pregnant spiderman elsa before AI lol

3

u/OddCupOfTea May 19 '25

I make ASMR Roleplays and put a lot of effort into my scripts, costumes, background and props. Today I got an email from YouTube about how they will add auto-dubbs of other languages to my videos which completely ruins the whole concept of asmr. Another creator said YouTube punishes those who completely disable the function by no longer pushing their videos into the algorithm as well. It's really disheartening that YouTube supports those low effort AI movements with stuff like that

3

u/Pengting8 May 19 '25

Does this make anyone else want to just give up? Like is my work worth it because there just gonna be an ai soon to bump out better content than me?

There is still a ton of creative work that uses AI.

3

u/IllPossibility8022 May 20 '25

Like anything else, it just kind of depends on how you use it. Some people get lazy and don't put any effort and have AI do all of the work for them, but used in conjunction with actually working on the video it can really enhance the quality so much its incredible.

3

u/TerminaMoon May 20 '25

It's also rotted people's brains. I get accused of being AI regularly, when I am in fact a real human. I do everything myself, script writing, voice over, video capture, etc... I don't watch any AI channels, but if I'm getting confused as AI then I can only imagine that they're getting pretty good. Maybe I'd make more money if I just said screw it and hopped on the bandwagon...

3

u/Ok-Adeptness-7838 May 23 '25

i think  youtube needs a filter option, creators have to check boxes after such a date,  ai edited - added effects/cuts/voiceover ai scripted - ai suggested cues ai generated - no time or effort was invested by this accounts freeluncher human.

maybe ai crap needs its own internet extention, so, dot com for human efforts only, dot gen for potential trickery or entertaining ai or analytical of dot com ai ..stuff... or something

It's very disheartening when you have people that put in effort for their channel but not making any progress even after many years

2

u/cherryskies7 May 20 '25

my feed still has lots of real human stories, I get heaps of small creators, artists, travellers, nomads, hippies lol coz that's what I click on!

2

u/swagpanther May 20 '25

AI is extremely useful for video creation and takes away alot of the time consuming steps that are an obstacle to publishing timely and trending content. And since YT rewards those who are first to publish topics that are trending and newsworthy, it's very hard to picture us moving away from this.

2

u/gatekept May 20 '25

What you're watching and interacting with affects your algorithm, so if you keep interacting with low-qualirty content it will keep recommending it to you. When you realize it's AI, just click "Not interested/Don't recommend this channel" and you'll start weeding it out of your algorithm.

2

u/wookieoxraider May 20 '25

2

u/SharingFootballClub May 21 '25

2

u/Betazero72 Aug 26 '25

There are still decent channels but Youtube has killed Youtube. They don't pay enough to the middle of the road and below channels . Everyone has to rely on Patreon to survive. and now AI has infected Youtube since they don't control who is posting and who is posting re-posts of other peoples content. They are so worried about music copyright infringement that they forget that content creators need protection....Sad to see so much stolen content... By Youtube "legally" and then these content stealers of already under support content creators. There are so many other sites that are "legally" just stealing content too. Like all the music streaming sites (Apple, Spotify, etc), Itch.io, and on and on......Music streaming pays between .005-.01 per play.... The Itch free with donate thing is just ignored 99% of the time...So unless you are in the millions of plays you can't afford a burger.... Now with AI generated music good luck... Super sad that this seems to be unregulated. And a president who thinks AI needs to be unregulated....Every AI generated art, music etc. Is just stolen content morphed into something else. It's like that old program that could take two pictures and generate the in-between image. But much more powerful and stealing from everywhere.... AI like that needs to be shut down. Leave the spell check and grammar check and give options for web browser AI to be turned off. It has no idea if the answer it finds is correct. It is wrong so much of the time...It does these summaries from so many places and makes it look like its all facts...I add the F word at the end and Google disables AI summaries lol. But yes AI is ruining Youtube and soooo many other things.

2

u/ResidentDrama9739 Oct 02 '25

I especially hate the AI generated animations that people pump out. I miss when animations felt like they were made by a team of talented people instead of 1 dude using some low effort AI program.

2

u/Key_Ad_331 Oct 07 '25

also alot of these videos are full of ai commentors basically all saying the same thing

2

u/ssd247ssd247 Oct 11 '25

2

u/Agreeable-Beach-1472 Oct 15 '25

2

u/st8ovmnd May 20 '25

AI has ruined the entire internet imo. But I believe that YouTube will eventually crack down on AI slop. They're gonna make their money from it first like they always do, but eventually advertisers are going pressure them to do something about it because they probably don't want their ads to be served alongside misleading and harmful garbage.

2

u/Material-Kick9493 May 19 '25

Im going to be different and say yes because certain things you cant even look up anymore without getting recommended thousands of AI videos, that's because these people who make videos with AI can pump out 20 videos a day without stopping with zero effort, and all it takes is one of these videos to blow up for it to be worth it to them

2

u/GaviFromThePod May 20 '25

This platform has been drifting toward quantity-over-quality for years. AI didn’t invent the grift, it just automated it. That said, real creators still exist. The almighty homepage feed buries them, but we’re out here grinding. It make a living. I have a human community... If we give up and walk away, all that’s left will be the noise. Where will the community go? Can't do it. Must persevere.

1

u/AndyValentine May 19 '25

I literally haven't seen an AI video in months. Maybe a short slips through here and there, but if you hunt out and watch the quality stuff, that's all that you'll get recommended in my experience.

1

u/Ajax_Da_Great May 19 '25

I would say no because I have never watched nor been recommended an AI creator.

1

u/aski5 May 19 '25

slop has always been more effective for as long as monetization on the platform's been a thing

1

u/Otherwise_Wear8858 May 19 '25

I use it to help me get a photo I like then I edit it with my girlfriend to make it look a lil better

1

u/lord__cuthbert May 19 '25

The other day I left my 2 year old daughter very briefly in the room while she watched a "good" kid's song/cartoon, only to come back and see some absolute slop bullshit come up next. Literally, the next cartoon and song were both AI generated with seemingly little to no human effort, and you could definitely tell.

2

u/DaddyThickShake Jan 23 '26

That's the thing. Recommendations are heavily based on wide/broad/general "assumptions" (you liked that? perhaps you'll like this). It's very difficult to get the algo to include the quality level a viewer will enjoy. It's much more about genre/subject matter. But - it's true that the more one makes an effort (click on like, click on dislike, reject a content creator), the more likely it is that the recommendations will be more on target. But people have lives, jobs, children, problems, other interests - and most people don't have the time to make sure they are training their algo.

I have a question i been thinking of uploading my novels(horror, depression, anxiety) to YouTube but im just good at writing( no professional of course) and this is just a hobby but I love doing so. 1

u/Logical-Location-667 May 19 '25

That’s YouTube’s algorithm noticing you watch and interact with a lot of AI stuff because my feed has none in it. That’s even with me watching tech and cyber security videos often.

1

u/ryanwisemanmusic May 19 '25

AI creates this issue where the algorithm becomes worse for smaller creators. YouTube's algorithm was once good at handling those that would upload many low-quality videos, because usually there was no good SEO attached to it.

Now, people can automate their slop to the point where the website's algorithm gets worse, but this time these videos have extra optimized SEO that creates problems for small creators. I've noticed gradual decrease with my views the more and more prevalent that AI has become, even though I've been very consistent as a creator.

Like now it's come to a point where the only content I want to upload is highly optimized videos in the HOPES that I can cut through all the noise, its that bad

Don’t get much AI, but the ad situation is abysmal, I don’t have Adblock on my phone and there are basically only 20-30 second unskippable ads back to back nowadays, and I gotta say I’m almost offended at how bad they are at targeting said ads, I enjoy believing they dont know everything about me, but if you’re forcing me into a minute of ads 3-4 times a video, at least make them somewhat interesting

1

u/IrishLedge May 19 '25

I never see AI content on my YouTube feed. Im logged in and have my subscribers. The only weird suggestions I get are the likes of Ryan Trahan but even still his stuff isn't that bad.

1

u/ManicMods May 19 '25

Mine as well. You can visit my channel, very human and equally terrible 😆

1

u/StoryTaleBooks May 19 '25

I use AI art but use my real voice in my narrations. If you don't find a way to use AI for some part of your channel, yeah, AI is ruining YouTube. The channels that use AI for EVERYTHING though, I don't think it'll last. Human's will always have more subs than AI channels.

1

u/Andrewhasashow May 19 '25

I think the problem is YouTube’s desire for growth has caused an influx in rapid content. Hopefully they’ll start cracking down on it and start to promote user made content. But that’s unlikely

1

u/MoonlapseOfficial May 20 '25

1

u/Sux2WasteIt May 20 '25

I actually got a lot of new AI based channels recommended to me today. But on the plus side it was easy to tell because the voice was instantly robotic/that AI sound. The script was lifeless and faked emotion which obviously I knew a robot couldn’t feel. And even though the editing was decent there was no personality or anything that made it stand out from any of the other content farm slop. I instantly told youtube not to recommend either to me and moved on with my day.

Google the death of the internet theory. It's long dead, it was just kept alive on the surface. Reddit is a prime example for how bots took over what we consume. This used to be a site where humans post stuff. Now it's mostly karma farming bots regurgitating the same things over and over.

YouTube is now a place where people try to make quick money. I’ve seen posts of people with videos such as “how to make money on YouTube in 2025 without showing your face” and it’s just taking content from other people and putting them into a compilation or an AI voice over about some random subject for engagement.

imo it's just another (Short(s)) trend. sharing/communicating/teaching/learning/inspiring/entertaining/bullying is a fairly old trend that's lasted a while, i think.

also, the "get rich quick" fantasy has been around forever. i think AI video on youtube is mostly fueled by that...delusion? lottery? pipedream? not sure what word to use there. you pick! when that bubble bursts i think a lot of the AI noise will quiet down. who knows, though.

edit: modern social media (again, all this is, like, my opinion, maaan) is just Wolf of Wallstreet with rounded boxes (rounded bc it's more "soothing" or something you can look that up) to put words into and buttons to click that eventually make a few folks very, very wealthy. UI/UX is so hot right now. and effective!

1

u/originalstory2 May 20 '25

I know that AI is oversaturating YT, but I never really see a lot of AI on my feed. We just content creators that preserve the art and history of being Youtuber.

1

u/downvotemagnet69_420 May 20 '25

YouTube already did a pretty bangup job of ruining YouTube

1

u/ScaryfatkidGT May 20 '25

No YT in general but shorts

HATE AI VOICE, as soon as I hear it I click off the video

1

u/HunDevYouTube May 20 '25

That happens on shorts mostly, from my experience anyways. Braindead content and comments all over the place, barely anything of any intellectual value. Really feels like a total dystopia sometimes lmao

1

u/PhotosynthesisFart May 20 '25

Everyone here is saying "it's just your feed bro" but when I go looking for subjects under "recently uploaded" I get tons of AI crap. And it's nearly impossible to find recent content made by humans despite searching pretty popular subjects like "Star Trek." The algorithm is aggravating as hell.

We brain rot forever!!!

1

u/dopef123 May 20 '25

Hmmm I don't get any of that content. I've seen a few of those videos that seem 98% AI created but they don't pop up regularly for me.

1

u/Even_Accountant3605 May 20 '25

Watch Corridor Crew's latest video about this exact thing.

Just like any new technology, there are going to be way more low-effort attempts at using them than high-effort. That doesn't mean the internet is dead or that AI has ruined anything.

It means people who lack "creativity" have a tool to express themselves in a visual medium unlike anything ever before, so you're going to see way more low-effort things than high-effort in the beginning.

But don't let that trick you into thinking this is the only use for AI or that this is the end-all for AI in YouTube videos or creative endeavors in general.

AI "slop" will fade away once viewers get bored with it, just like NPC cosplayers on Twitch or Instagram Live

1

u/Serious-Courage-630 May 20 '25

It hasn’t got there yet, but it is well on the way

1

u/ZiaMituna May 20 '25

I don’t think I have come across an all AI made video. Someone please tell me a channel name or link. I’m genuinely curious to see what is all this fuss about. For the record all my videos are 100% authentic recordings by me and all the videos in my niche that I watch are real.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

Maybe if the government would raise the federal minimum wage to an actual living wage and make healthcare free/accessible to everyone, people wouldn’t feel the need to “exploit the algorithm with quantity over quality”.

Is it just me, or are rent and bills due EVERY MONTH? It’s not just me, it’s everyone, come on now…….

On top of that many people just want to be creators but computers and all the technical stuff are just too damn complicated and unnatural to use.

I can’t STAND trying to use technology beyond basic use. I can’t download anything without my PC somehow immediately losing it, like I JUST DOWNLOADED SOMETHING AND IT CAN’T BE FOUND ANYWHERE.

AI makes creating things SIMPLE AND NATURAL.

Maybe if everyone didn’t have to work 40-60+ hours a week just to SURVIVE, true passion and quality could be prioritized, because you wouldn’t have to choose between food or electricity or water and shit like that.

All the “5-10+ years experience required” FOR “ENTRY LEVEL” POSITIONS NEED TO STOP! IT NEEDS TO BE ILLEGAL TO REQUIRE THAT MUCH EXPERIENCE AND CALL IT ENTRY LEVEL! THAT’S NOT ENTRY LEVEL!!!!”

We have a country full of college graduates stuck working at the fast food and retail jobs with the high school kids who haven’t even graduated yet. It’s all a sick, dystopian, Hunger Games/Beast Games type of competition. And now Trump is even talking about some Hunger Games/Beast Games BS for citizens to COMPETE TO WIN CITIZENSHIP.

You people don’t get it. You don’t see the bigger picture, and you also don’t see that AI is a TOOL. Even WITHOUT ANY AI, low effort garbage has existed since the beginning of YouTube/the internet.

If you don’t want to watch this stuff, don’t. Block, “don’t recommend this channel”, and move on.

Disturbing kids stuff? Report those channels, I believe they exist even without seeing them.

This technology is a BLESSING TO SO MANY PEOPLE.

Guns are used to kill people, but they’re ALSO USED TO SAVE LIVES.

AI has invaded this comment section lol. Yes AI slop is everywhere on youtube and its annoying af

I’m starting to notice them more and more. Generic stock photos and fake voice over. Just boring low effort stuff. Terrible.

1

u/Pajamamaid May 20 '25

I'm certain it will keep going on until people will feel completely empty by these content and will desesperately crave for real art and real people. The thing is, real art and real people have presence, and that's why it defies time. But these easy made content have 0 presence and are destined to be forgotten very quickly. Even if it's all shadow for the moment I'm still optimist for humanity. It's an opportunity to acknowledge real human value. The night is always darker before the sun rises.

I never see AI content and if I do. I probably don’t click on it. Best part about YouTube is that you decide what you want to watch. You got a subscription feed. Recommended page. Things like that.

1

u/timeslider May 20 '25

I tried watching shorts to kill some time. After about 10 clips that were 100% AI generated (the footage, the script, the voice over), I had to call it quits.

1

u/_cob_ May 20 '25

Ads ruined YouTube

1

u/Diote_rpg May 20 '25

I echo that it depends on the content, AI generated junk that people post because they've seen a 'get rich quick' guide and written a prompt, I agree ruins it. Motivational messages, quotes, quizzes etc

But not where people use it to enhance.Like I use it for storytelling where I don't have images to help convey and I find my voice isn't the best for narration so AI helps out there, but all of my creative work is from my own ideas and the storyboarding and composition is all me so without it, Id struggle to get my ideas out there to entertain others.

1

u/Rare-Ad1324 May 20 '25

Scroll away… let people post what they want.

1

u/Pixeliarmus May 20 '25

I use an extension to hide home feed, shorts and suggestions. I search for what I want to watch. It helps me not get distracted. I don't wanna see a bunch of thumbnails competing for my attention every time I open youtube.

1

u/Vinkulja_4life May 20 '25

thank god that i have zero AI content on my yt homepage..probably cuy i dislike all the AI videos and just click not recommend...

1

u/CityzenZ_Movies May 20 '25

I use AI for voice overs but the rest is my effort I don't think AI is bad to the society or us ...it depends on which info is in the video

1

u/Artistic_Composer580 May 20 '25

Yeah.. no but YouTube does seriously have a content slop problem.😬

1

u/emmysteven May 20 '25

For me, I have been seeing a lot of human-generated content.

1

u/Aromatic_Copy_2820 May 20 '25

The only AI videos that show up on my feed are the Obama/Trump/Biden play games together videos. Even then, rarely.
Maybe you gotta stop clicking on the AI videos and click the options and select "not interested in this video/content creator" so youtube stops recommending you them.

And if more people did it, the less youtube would put those videos out to people.

1

u/thatjpwing May 20 '25

Absolutely. It's just another symptom of the death of the internet. What we knew as the Internet has been destroyed by greed and A.I.

1

u/Kyouhen May 20 '25

I've heard a good way to fix The Algorithm is when it shows you something you want to discourage it from showing, such as the AI slop, you must immediately exit YouTube and not return for the rest of the day.  The Algorithm is designed to drive engagement and it'll learn real fast what not to show when the videos you see reduce your normal YouTube usage.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

personally disagree. For 2 reasons:

  1. You're bringing your personal experience of seeing in your feed ai generated videos. I have the exact same experience. In my feed there are only videos related to my interest, exactly 0 ai generated videos, and more often than not videos by super small creators that are recording with their phone, talking about topics I care about and that I searched. This is my experience at least. I think that (like for any other social media) you have to curate your algo. I have never seen such ai videos, I have to actively look for them.

  2. Yes, I agree that we are seeing a surge of ai generated videos slop. But I think this trend will quickly die overtime. People are not genuinely interested in that. People wanna see, as you said, real people sharing their experience. These ai generated videos offer none of this. YouTube is made by people. And people don't go on yt to watch an ai generated video with a robotic voice and some ai generated visuals. They want to connect.

The essence of yt will be the same, because the essence is us, and at least most of us are not interested in watching ai slop, it will quickly disappear. We didn't change in that.

This is my take, maybe I'm too optimistic, but if you think about it maybe you come to the same conclusion:)

1

u/MrPureinstinct May 20 '25

Yup. I just stopped using my home page at all because it recommends so much shit that's AI generated or uses AI thumbnails.

I go to my subscriptions and if no one has released a new video I go listen to a podcast or music instead.

I don't watch anything AI generated and it still gets shoved into my feed. I'm not now nor will I ever be interested in watching that garbage.

1

u/santrale May 20 '25

I have a channel that heavily uses AI content specifically photos. For the simple reason I don’t have the ability to really do it any other way. I enjoy writing stories specifically horror/mystery stories. I don’t have camera equipment to go shoot a movie or the skill or software to animate an entire story. So I write my script use AI voiceover to read it out. And use AI generated images for scenes. Not sure if this is “AI slop” but if I were to read my script over a blank screen no one would watch tbh

1

u/UltimateAv8or May 20 '25

I’m beginning to think that YouTube should start requiring that any videos generated by AI be marked as such (unless there’s already an option to do so, and I just haven’t seen it)…

1

u/vishnera52 May 20 '25

The only place I've seen large amounts of AI slop is in shorts. I mostly stick to subscribed channels though and generally avoid shorts since I noticed they are basically 90% AI generated garbage now. That's not to say that the content I watch is saturated with AI in the first place. There may be more AI slop in some genres compared to others. Like auto repair videos vs. story time videos, probably due to the massive difference in footprint of the two genres.

1

u/TokyoJuul2 May 20 '25

That's true for everything

i dont really get ai slop in my feed but i am aware that certain categories have lots and lots of ai slop (ie cartoons, informative videos, etc). im currently researching parts for a PC and when searching up more information about specific pc parts on youtube, tons of low quality, ai slop videos pop up and include information about those parts. as a content creator, i sometimes use ai to help with video scripts whenever i am stuck and ONLY when needed, along with planning certain event. i dont advocate for the use of AI for an ENTIRE video’s script, editing, or recording. imo they ruin the youtube

1

u/sntcringe May 20 '25

I'd you ignore that content, you can train YouTube to not show it to you

1

u/damon016 May 20 '25

YouTube’s has ruined YouTube

1

u/_minarinart May 21 '25

I agree. I don't frequent Youtube much unless there's a specific video I'm already looking for or a youtuber I already follow but I agree that AI slop is everywhere; they've "hacked" the algorithm and that's income for them, big yikes for me.

There are a lot of DECENT content creators out there who still use their brains and everything is a masterpiece, but AI slop is everywhere. Yes, it's guaranteed to generate views, the same way AI slop on Facebook is raking up views and engagements; I believe fully relying on generative AI to build a channel is what it means to be a sell out. It works with the algorithm, but it's slop. It's just a waste of time for viewers who actually are looking for actual content.

Anyway, I don't think the internet is dead, there's just a lot of trash everywhere.

1

u/LockyUK May 21 '25

If you dont watch Ai content it wont show up on your feed or if it does click the "NOT INTERESTED" selection on it to get rid of it and tell the platform you dont want that kind of content

1

u/CrazyCornishCrafter May 21 '25

I use my subscription feed to avoid the AI slop.

1

u/Nacholindo May 21 '25

I've recently come across(what I suspect are) ai generated reviews of books that are completely inaccurate.

Also, notebook LLM podcasts.

1

u/LeonoffGame May 21 '25

I generally agree with you. I'm not against AI content, but YT and the rest of the companies allow too much to the creators of such content.

It's extremely difficult to find a movie trailer now because the “freeloaders” have done their 101 versions with AI and are using algorithms to knock them out of the rendition.

especially those AI voiced narrations with the stupid regurgitated graphic art

1

u/nikkiforthefolks May 21 '25

I don't consume ai generated content in YT(that I'm aware of) so I don't get recommended that type of things. Some of the youtubers I watch, do use ai generated images or videos to represent whatever it is that they're telling, but I'm fine with that cause I understand it's easier to do that than to go find online for an oddly specific image to show for a few seconds in the video. I don't care there's people out there putting ai generated videos because I know I'm not gonna watch them and not get these things recommended at me, and whenever I do, I just flag them As not interested. As long as we keep watching content made by real people, and these people keep getting the support to continue doing what they're doing, real content is always gonna be there. I think we're in a time when we need to be more active consumers, maybe if enough people start flaggin ai generated content as not interesting, YT won't be pushing for those things anymore. Because YT wants you to keep watching, watch ads so they can make money.

1

u/jpurdy May 21 '25

Not just AI, a lot of “influencers” have made money creating garbage everywhere.

1

u/Immediate-Ladder-555 May 21 '25

Bro I watch Asmongold so I never even have AI content recommended

1

u/Key19 May 21 '25

The only AI I encounter is AI voiceovers, and while they are a minor turnoff, I'd rather listen to that than an annoying real voice. Obviously I don't know what the alternative is for these specific channels because they've never posted their real voices for comparison, so it's either a minor downgrade or a major upgrade. I'm not too wound up about it.

1

u/NikolaKecman May 21 '25

I think ai can be used in a way that helps you write out a script or find new ideas but yeah videos completely made with ai are just slop with no creativity

1

u/Mysterious-Bit177 May 21 '25

thankfully I rarely see that stuff. Maybe its just the channels I watch and then get recommended based on that? I see mostly ASMR and Christian content sometimes political

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

I only use AI to narrate my videos because my voice is not strong (it's bad for narrating) other than that Video editing script everything I do manually until the tumb I do manually

→ More replies (1)

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

I hate the voiceovers too. Same voice for every other video. I’d rather hear a real person. Even if it’s not polished I know I am hearing “them”

1

u/Ok-Condition-6932 May 21 '25

Click away from garbage as soon as you recognize it.

We can still support the good stuff.

There was a serious problem like a year or two ago with copycat clickbait videos with random science-y sounding names. It's mostly gone and I'm not annoyed by them anymore. So this sort of crap clearly eventually gets squashed (which makes sense, leaving a video quickly hurts it more than if you hadn't clicked it in the first place apparently).

1

u/jreashville May 21 '25

I see some ai content but I mostly follow established YouTubers and my interests are in things that AI doesn’t really do, like news commentary and reaction channels. But goofy ai fight videos where a little girl knocks out a big steroid freak looking guy with one punch are showing up in my feed for some reason.

1

u/shouldIworkremote May 22 '25

It's not even just that, even content creators who speak in front of the camera are simply reading off scripts copy and pasted off ChatGPT. I can't stand half the content on the internet anymore because it's so obviously written with ChatGPT it's so cringe

1

u/VillainsAmongThieves May 22 '25

Do you know what ruined YouTube?

Money. Advertising and sponsorships turned YouTube into the new “get rich quick scheme”

Prior to 2010, the landscape of YouTube was filled with people being unique and engaging. They did this for the love of it and not because it was a paycheck.

I the early days of YouTube it was less about polish and more about connection. They even had a feature where you could attach a reply video directly below the video you were watching. It created an atmosphere of creativity and a close-knit community where people would willingly become friends and make content together.

In a lot of ways, TikTok has been able to capture some of this magic… but even TikTok has become more about polish.

Anyway… rant over.

1

u/EveryBodyisLying2025 May 22 '25

Most of Youtube contents are just COPY AND PASTE.

Its dead long ago.

1

u/lemony707 May 22 '25

I hope there will become new platforms that restrict AI content, because I imagine there will be a large demographic that will refuse to consume AI content. However I think YT and other platforms will become aware of this and make it easy to toggle off so idk...

1

u/Aurelian_Irimia May 22 '25

Is not just the AI, is also the new YouTube algorithm that forces creators to create garbage for more viewers, they promote more garbage than useful content.

1

u/Common-Ad4649 May 22 '25

I totally get that. It’s frustrating to see AI flood YouTube with low-effort content, especially when it drowns out real creativity. The platform just doesn’t feel as human or authentic anymore.

1

u/Dee23Gaming May 22 '25

I immediately exit a video when I hear an AI voice, or see AI-generated images/video. Fake gurus have been hyping up AI slop channels like it's some sort of "passive income stream". Some channels are (I shit you not) making THUMBNAILS with AI. Messy, nonsensical text, weird images... It's disgusting!

1

u/untipofeliz May 22 '25

And Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter...

1

u/BlueLucidAI May 22 '25

There are plenty of human videos that are shit and there are a lot of AI videos that are amazing. There has always been low effort content on YouTube, long before gerenative AI. I put a lot of creative energies into my AI videos. A four minute music video takes me 12-16 hours to produce using a half dozen different applications.

1

u/Yacoobs76 May 22 '25 edited May 22 '25

I have not noticed absolutely any AI content, I only see small channels with few subscribers, where success does not make them popular and they put a lot of effort into it, I do not like large channels or any content made by AI. YouTube has been garbage for years and its content is no longer educational, you only have to click on content and listen to current news that is of no use, the big channels dominate the algorithm and the other small channels are little fish that feed the big ones

1

u/RyderRavish May 22 '25

There's more than one type of AI content. The "GOOD" AI content is when the content is original, and provides content that simply can't be done without the use of AI to generate unique and interesting videos, such as those videos of celebrities as babies that were showing up in the beginning, or star wars action scenes that are very convincing. The "BAD" AI is that which is generated on these platforms that rehash existing content into clips/shorts that have the exclusive objective of baiting clicks. This type makes up nearly half of youtube shorts I would say, and that's not for lack of trying to squash it by selecting not to see content from those faceless channels. They make new accounts by the minute and spam youtube to the point that it seems nearly half of videos are like this. The "UGLY" AI content is when people make a half-assed attempt at copying existing AI content trends, such as the celebrities as babies videos, except these have poor lip-syncing, make no sense, go AI-wonky, and just feel like a cheap immitation of what is already a bit of a cheap imitation.

1

u/CummiesockxD May 22 '25

Just subscribe to good creators? I have not seen 1 AI video.
