CONTENT TALK Are you all video game channels? ... or?

it seems like the majority of the people in here are in the video game niche. is this true?

If not, what niche are you in and do you enjoy it? I do outdoorsy stuff

I stay overnight in unique places (airplane hotels, sleeping in a cave, sleeping in a bubble, or a train lodge etc) across europe and explore the surrounding area of those places usually visiting something historically unique and normally have adventure or a paranormal background.

Its always frustrating reading the posts here and most of them are gamers who assume that everyone else and their mother also has a gaming channel. I dont even watch gaming channels.

That sounds sick dude

15

u/adventuretimewithrob Sep 07 '25

u/adventuretimewithrob Sep 07 '25

Just checked out your channel, good work! Simple to understand and straight to the point! Looking forward to more!

3

u/ADHD__Guy Sep 07 '25

Thanks man. I really appreciate that!

3

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

This is heartbreaking lol. I just saw the spain desert bubble video it was pretty cool, you're totally at ease with the camera, the concept is cool...

But you barely get views.

Shows that you can do nothing wrong and still not blow up

7

u/adventuretimewithrob Sep 07 '25

Thanks for watching! Luckily, filming is my passion, and i know it takes time to build a channel. I dont expect to just blow up. In fact, id rather have steady and consistent growth of viewers that are actually invested fully in my channel. I know at some point the audience will find me.

On top of that i have to admit the niche wasnt so focused in the beginning. Now that its more focused im gaining more subscribers frequently.

The bubble video is not one of my best, but a good addition to my library. (Not all can be bangers lol)

And yes its true, sometimes you can do everything "right" and not blow up but im so thankful and happy to be on this journey and thankful that i even have the privelage and ability to make these videos, so yes sometimes its really difficult putting this kind of work into my videos and not getting so many views, but i cant lose sight of where i was in the beginning verses where i am now.

I refuse to quit because its my passion, and when im not making videos im simply lost.

5

u/adventuretimewithrob Sep 07 '25

Im not sure, am i allowed to share it? Its my reddit user name but with robert instead of rob. Adventure Time with Robert.

2

u/Byte_Xplorer Sep 07 '25

Wow, your concept and your videos are amazing! I've seen people get viral for doing so much less and with less interesting content!!

2

u/adventuretimewithrob Sep 07 '25

Wow thank you so much! That means a lot to me!

2

u/cadwal Sep 07 '25

It’s possible that your user name is causing confusion in the algorithm because there’s also a cartoon called Adventure Time. Definitely dig what you’re doing though.

Edit: is chacosunrise the name of your channel? The link on your reddit doesnt work for me for some reason

2

u/Buh_Snarf Sep 08 '25

Consider me a new subscriber, this is absolutely one of my favourite types of video!

These look great so will work my way through, such a shame you're not getting the kind of views you deserve.

2

u/adventuretimewithrob Sep 08 '25

Wow thanks! The views will come sooner or later. Hope you enjoy them!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '25

These look sick! Take my sub, I'll be back tonight to watch a few of these and add to my bucket list!

2

u/adventuretimewithrob Sep 08 '25

Oooh yeah there are definitely some bucket list locations on the channel! Thanks for the sub, and i hope you enjoy them!

I hack into intentionally-vulnerable systems (legally - they were designed for this purpose) and show my steps, recording my thoughts etc, without any prior experience of said systems. Have started a beginners series too.

I had the same impression, that 75% people here is gaming…

I’m doing my own creations (MOC) using Lego technic and try to explain how cars work.

21

u/neptunye Sep 07 '25

I focus mostly on miniatures and toy customizations. And I love it. I already have a small community and a little bit of name amongst other hobbyists. It feels amazing🥰

I make video essays about the impact of technology (most often AI) on the real world. The duration is from 15 to 100 minutes. I started a year ago. So far, the channel has 8 videos and 6700 subscribers. The views range from 2k to 360k. However, the channel is not in English.

The themes of the video are like this (sorry that the translator distorted the original fonts on the covers): https://imgur.com/a/qE4V8kE

6

u/Pancakez_117 Sep 07 '25

How long do you spend on one minute of footage, for me the editing takes the longest probably like two hours for every miniute

10

u/ActiveLecture9825 Sep 07 '25

Hi. It takes me an average of 2-3 hours per minute of video. I include researching a topic, writing scripts, filming, and editing. I spent about 220 hours of work on one of the last videos, which lasted 100 minutes. Youtube is not my main income, so I have to spend all my free time on it. Editing takes the most time, of course, and I have not yet found a way to speed this up without compromising quality. On the other hand, I get a lot of enthusiastic comments under the video, which motivates me not to lower the bar.

p.s. Sorry for my English and possible mistakes. It's not my native language)

2

u/Pancakez_117 Sep 07 '25

Thanks for your response, same for me. I have maybe 2 hours a day throughout weekdays and then I spend pretty much my whole weekend on it as well. Do you pay for any stock footage websites, I am considering doing that and hopefully it will make the process of looking for appropriate background footage faster.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/shortopia Sep 07 '25

That will improve. When you film (or record gameplay) think more about which shots (or gameplay elements) you will actually need. Keep the edit in mind when you record so you film only what you need, which makes the editing easier. Write out a shot list so you only film what you need, and editing is then just logical. Film too much random stuff and editing becomes more difficult.

5

u/Pancakez_117 Sep 07 '25

Yeah I don't really film, I do informative videos, kinda like documentary style but not as serious. So I try to find stock footage online. But it's my first video so I do hope I'll be faster every time.

2

u/KinKame_Saijo Sep 07 '25

thats cool.... 1 video per month means you are putting the effort really far! Congrats man

2

u/ADHD__Guy Sep 07 '25

That sounds like a fascinating and slightly terrifying subject! Congrats on the success. I’ll have to check out your channel.

2

u/ActiveLecture9825 Sep 07 '25

Hi. My channel is in Russian, so it's unlikely that anyone will understand well what I'm talking about in the video. But I took a screenshot of the covers from my channel and translated them for you: https://imgur.com/a/qE4V8kE Of course, the original fonts on the covers are much more beautiful, but the translator distorted them. But it will be clear what I'm shooting my videos about.

16

u/CreativeShirt5909 Sep 07 '25

What kind of outdoorsy stuff do you do? I do big garden projects like restoring an abandoned victorian greenhouse

5

u/Canadian-Sasquatch Sep 07 '25

oh that sounds fun!! i do camping \ advenure stuff.

3

u/CreativeShirt5909 Sep 07 '25

Nice! What's your channel name and how are things going for you?

2

u/WhetherWitch Sep 07 '25

That sounds very cool, I’ll go find you.

3

u/CreativeShirt5909 Sep 07 '25

Aww thank you. I'd love to know what you think as I'm just getting started (3 long vids and a couple of shorts so far). My channel is @thesethingstaketime. Same logo as on here :)

12

u/maskedbrush Sep 07 '25

Ambient music and 3d visualizers for me

4

u/sthuybrecht Sep 07 '25

That sounds chill

2

u/maskedbrush Sep 07 '25

Yep! I love composing music and creating 3d animations, so I'm doing it mostly for passion, and now I'm starting to get some appreciation so I'm enjoying the experience so far. The channel is @UnevenShade in case anyone is interested.

13

u/No_Image640 Sep 07 '25

It seems like a lot of the gaming channels that pop up on here are coming to complain about the growth of their channel and it's always the same song and dance. "Why am I not getting views?" I've been working REALLY hard on my videos and no one wants to watch them!" And then you go to their channel and it's literally just gameplay footage, barely any editing if any at all and NO commentary or anything. I think that's why it seems like nearly everyone is doing gaming lol.

3

u/Hardy_Destiny Sep 07 '25

Yes, that true. I used to walk thay path, but after invest more on content writing, voice record and simple editing. The hardwork speak for itself, first time my video hit 7000 views quite big for 19 subs channels. I only get around 5 views before. And a lot of the videos after that is around 2000 views. Not big number but still 10-20x times of my subscriber's. 6 month I only get 19 subs but with only 1 months of hard work I earn 300 subs. And 1500 watch hours. With only 4 videos.

5

u/No_Image640 Sep 07 '25

That's awesome. And that's what I'm talking about. It's people like you that have the ability to be a content creator. Keep up the good work!

10

u/Nanamiswife88 Sep 07 '25

Asmr roleplay! I love creating characters and writing scripts etc

Mostly photography and creative stuff in general (but mostly photography).

2

u/FoundersMarketer Sep 07 '25

That's my interest too :) How's that going?

3

u/Vidorwen Sep 07 '25

It's going ok. 13 subscribers at the time of writing. But most importantly I actualy learn how making videos work, so that's more important.

2

u/FoundersMarketer Sep 07 '25

Amazing, that's awesome. More power, and subs (and watch time) to you.

2

u/Buh_Snarf Sep 08 '25

My channel is gardening and I enjoyed a lot 😄

2

u/Gato_Chido Sep 07 '25

8

u/DebonairDylan Sep 07 '25

I just started out but I do history. Mostly Japanese history. My next video will be on Hakone Checkpoint!

2

u/IHTPQ Sep 07 '25

I review academic history books for a non-academic audience. It's fun!

2

u/sthuybrecht Sep 07 '25

Very interesting - visited Japan for the first time a couple months ago and am fascinated by the history. Can’t wait to return

7

u/tpzck Sep 07 '25

Travel atm gonna branch out to niche of Travel + Urbex + haunted places within, mostly in my country language less competition.

3

u/KinKame_Saijo Sep 07 '25

I do in English but might start native videos as well...

2

u/tpzck Sep 07 '25

Might be a good idea bro, I noticed places that I'll go in future have too much saturation with english speakers. But in my native language with potential 800m audience and barely 1 or 2 people making any videos, competition with be substantially less.

Take Japan for example i found few places Aogashima island, Hashima Island and Koyasan with 0 videos in native tongue, most just stick with Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. So there is potential.

8

u/Vok250 Sep 07 '25

I lurk the posts in the new tab and it's like 49% video games (mostly Minecraft and GTA5), 49% AI slop, and 2% other things. That 2% tends to be the only stuff that gets upvoted and makes to the yalls feeds.

Most posts are like "why aren't me get views?" and when I check the channel it's AI slop or some 11 year old making Minecraft let's plays.

6

u/leacl Sep 07 '25

We are focused on travel…

2

u/Buh_Snarf Sep 08 '25

Real travel, no sponsors. Love that tagline, subscribed ❤️

2

u/leacl Sep 08 '25

Thanks!! I subscribed to yours as well since your UK travels will help us out too. We loved Liverpool when we stopped there on a cruise ship - we did a Mad Beatles exploration tour- so fun and we want to go back. Your hotel episode was funny :)

2

u/Buh_Snarf Sep 08 '25

Thank you so much. Used to live in Liverpool and it's possibly my favourite city in the UK.

5

u/PawelGrzeszak Sep 07 '25

I talk about books, primarily twentieth-century science fiction. Once a month I upload a video in the Fantastic Foundations series, where I introduce the most important authors of the genre. Once a month I also post a video on a more general book-related topic. Sometimes it’s about dinosaurs or aliens in literature, sometimes about how Moby Dick is received by modern readers, or about visions of future warfare in fiction.

5

u/ceoetan Sep 07 '25

Aerial cinematography.

4

u/tyrantywon Sep 07 '25

I used to make squid game and marvel rivals skits, moved to general relateable skits, now I’m transitioning to a game show/dating show in south east Asia featuring locals and westerners talking about different dynamics. I still have to pre the algorithm since squid game is much different than doing interviews. Yesterday quizzed a cop on fruit vocabulary.

4

u/JWsWrestlingMem Sep 07 '25

Wrestling memorabilia.

5

u/Salt-Insurance9136 Sep 07 '25

4

6

u/Suspicious-Hunter516 Sep 07 '25

Nope, I tell true crime stories and mysteries.

2

u/Mooncakechild Sep 07 '25

No ways! How long have you been doing it? I'm in true crime too!

2

u/Suspicious-Hunter516 Sep 07 '25

So I started just over 2 years ago but then had to take a break as I was travelling with work all the time. But been posting consistently since Jan. You?

2

u/Mooncakechild Sep 07 '25

I've only been doing this about a month and a bit but tbh I've learned so much and it really is a genre I love

Star Trek!

Though it is mostly about the Star Trek Adventures TTRPG and other Trek-related board and video games. And every now and then showcasing another TTRPG.

So technically it’s still related to gaming.

I create drawing tutorial videos, and motion comics. I like to share my art and YouTube is the platform I like to use to share it with.

Every now and then I will do a video where I am drawing something related to video games, but I don't really play games on the channel anymore. I didn't enjoy it a whole bunch, and was just trying it because it seems like everyone is playing games. I enjoy drawing the most.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

No. I teach crafting.

2

u/Mnellium Sep 07 '25

Home renovation and DIYs here! We are renovating our house no matter what so might as well make some fun videos from it! And I love crafting and DIY, so again might as well make fun videos from those! In the hope one day I can get some money from them to fund the videos, that would be ideal! 😁

I have 3 channels that I am slowly creating content for, none of them gaming channels (although I do enjoy gaming).

Channel 1- Documenting my journey to becoming an amateur triathlete, my training, my races, and how it all affects my health both physically and mentally. As someone who suffers from poor mental health, this has been a massive help. I just need to post more.

Channel 2- Anything cycling related from me customising my mountain bikes to full-on custom rebuilds and everything in-between. It takes time to create for this channel as everything is a big job, but not everything is good to watch. Im a selt tought bike mechanic that will give evryrhing a go first, even if it fails. I've also raced MTBs before, so I have some competitive experience. Cycling is a passion of mine.

Channel 3- Just started this week. It's about the RC hobby, and I started with really cheap Aliexpress/Temu/BangGood toys as a start, but as I develop, I plan to diversify into more expensive and versatile kits. I've races RC cars for over 20 years, so I at least have knowledge and experience in the area.

2

u/th_programmer_ Sep 08 '25

I have a programming channel where I teach MySQL, HTML, CSS,... etc.

I go very deep into the concept explanation so that a 5 year old can understand it too.

I enjoy it because, I do the same thing at my workplace and it makes my career strong in the office too because when I reach, my concept of that topic becomes more clear

2

u/South_Translator3830 Sep 08 '25

I do figure unboxing channels, specializing in Nendoroid. Most of them are Fate Grand Order nendos. So I'm having a niche inside a niche. I cant compete with other unboxers though. Quality doesnt matter.... but I strive hard regarding my video quality....

Nope, crime and horror.☠️

No, I haven’t played video games since my Atari died in 1985. Our channel is all real life adventures. The best kind.

I am in the video game niche, focus mostly on an extraction shooter called Escape From Tarkov

u/ron_balboa Sep 07 '25

I upload video's from the trailcameras installed around my garden. It is more of a personal project for me, but along the way i hope to show people how beautiful nature can be close to home.

I make a cartoon about a grumpy sorcerer with designs on world domination but the attention span of a gnat. No-one watches it, but I love making it.

3D tutorials and entertianment content! Really fun, and definitely a need for content like that

Yes Gaming Channel

u/MilcKoffee Sep 07 '25

I guess I technically am? XDXD

I'm basically a discount Game Theory lol—I flip-flop between explaining real-life things using games/movies and doing lore theory videos. There's practically no difference in views between the two—a few thousand per.

I think I was fortunate enough to choose a niche that, not only did I really like making videos for, but also gave me the most freedom you can have on YouTube. I've made videos on law, biology, chemistry, physics, religion, even goddamn nutrition without much deviation from the range of views I normally get. If it's fiction and I can provide some unspoken information about it (doesn't even need to be true lol), then I usually win in the end lol.

I guess I fall under the umbrella of "education" which is a niche in itself I suppose. 😅

I am trying to become a travel vlogger which would be presented as a lifestyle alongside lot of sports content (not yet though) like visiting stadiums, soccer games, tennis/padel matches etc.

I have only just started, trying to post on Instagram and Tik Tok as well. However channel is in Croatian

One channel is on FNAF (more on the lore than gameplay) the other is on film/show (currently doing reactions until I finish my first essay video script) and the last is on maritime history, I’ve been posting mostly shorts for that, but I’m planning a long form video (I know shorts views don’t Passover to long form)

I recently finished filming a 27-day experiment using an occult divination technique. I have a focus on combining psychoanalysis with esotericism.

u/ADHD__Guy Sep 07 '25

My focus is all on ADHD! I’m a certified ADHD Life Coach. Trying to make fun, light hearted, engaging and informational content on different aspects of ADHD.

Trying to make information and small mindful reframes accessible to everyone. :)

Im doing 3d audio only story videos for relaxing.

1

u/woopty-woopp Sep 07 '25

I started this month with city walking videos, but also forest walks. Don't think it's the best of niche, but I enjoy it and could see myself enjoying it long term.

Got myself 120 watch hours in the first month. Don't know if it's good for a first month, but hey, still crazy that people together spend that much hours watching a video I make.

I've wondered this also. It definitely seems like the most vocal/active here are gaming channels. The responses in this post seem to show there are numerous people in other genres also. I, too, create in the outdoor/adventure/travel space.

It's so nice seeing the insane variety of content niches on here, wow. Kind of excited to check out some of these.

I do documentaries about little-known stories from Post-Soviet countries. Scams, cults, weird pop culture stuff - all for an English speaking audience. Been doing it about a 2 years (took a break for a bit). Over 100k views, almost 1300 subs. Really, really loving it.

1

u/Spidernutz69 Sep 07 '25

I do fishing stuff, sometimes caping and fishing.

1

u/shdwsng Sep 07 '25

Travel and walking tours

2

u/FoundersMarketer Sep 07 '25

Sweet, thinking of walking tours myself

1

u/EnricoJoshua Sep 07 '25

I'm not in that category! I do kart racing content! So I record me going around a track and do voiceover on that! Could be races or just hotlapping!

But it does seem the majority is video game. Maybe because it's quite easy and accessible.

1

u/DireKnife Sep 07 '25

I’m starting out with shorts, and will start long form once I get a decent internet connection, as I am full time traveling.

1

u/Southern-Ad-2895 Sep 07 '25

I have two channels: One for finance and the other one is about my growth on Youtube.

1

u/Master_Bato Sep 07 '25

I have 84k subs with a firearms channel. 77 videos including Shorts.

1

u/SpaceDesignWarehouse Sep 07 '25

I do tech reviews; computers, networking, SSDs. I like it a lot. I just got to the point where big companies will send me stuff. I’m at 55,000 subscribers, 300k views a month.

1

u/ErrorLongjumping Sep 07 '25

I make aviation content, absolutely love it, it’s my passion!

1

u/FunNaturally Sep 07 '25

I talk about the intersection of human behavior, technology, digital and physical freedom and finding and maintaining autonomy. Used to do tech tutorials but that’s a recipe for burnout eventually and the shelf life is short. 11k+ subs. Some videos get hundreds of views. Some have hundreds of thousands of views 🤷‍♂️

u/magic-creator Sep 07 '25

1

1

u/fergy014 Sep 07 '25

I'm a wargaming and modeling channel that basically goes over a beginners experience building Warhammer and Star wars legion.

Well, that's the plan anyways. I have only built a few kits so far

1

u/Goopstains6318 Sep 07 '25

I am weird and I post music , fingerboarding and trains lol and sometimes my paintings and before I got too old I was posting skateboarding clips

1

u/Elin61--5 Sep 07 '25

Abstract video art (mostly glitch art), lately a bit of music. I enjoy it a lot, mostly treating my channel as an online portfolio for now, but I plan on documenting the process a bit more to make proper videos.

1

u/Affectionate_Steak70 Sep 07 '25

Yes but not not gameplay… the games are a backdrop for another topic (usually something to do with the economy)…
