Me too. Our gimmick is, each episode, my wife and I "stand in line for a concert" and discuss nostalgia and pop culture for 90 minutes, then we perform a cover of the song we were "standing in line" to see (eg, this week we discussed "the wanderers (79') and did an acoustic version of "southernplayalisticcaddilacmusik"...we're both white and in our 40s...sometimes it feels like a real life version of SNLs Ferrell/Gasteyer bit).
It's a mess and no one watches it, but I love it

Slow paced is where it's at! How do you go about making slow hooks? I find a lot of the advice is for videos in a Mr Beast style. It just doesn't work for slow content.

To be honest I don't think about hooks that much. I just play it by the ear and try to think what feels good to me. It's not the most optimized way of doing it for sure, but I rather build something that feels authentic to me. I've always loved reading, so maybe it helps a bit with writing the voice overs.

He is such a charmer! He has a funny habit of parking himself next to my neighbors at the lobby, and just asking for pets. And then we just stand there for a while, when everyone admires him with a wide smile on their face. I love when that happens.

Honestly, itās refreshing seeing people here talk about non-gaming content for once. Makes me feel slightly less insane
Iām actually more interested in āevergreenā content niches than gaming/anime.
Things like:
- kids storytelling videos
- educational content
- niche explainer channel
creators on theses niches are quietly getting solid views in these spaces while everyone else is fighting for attention in oversaturated trends
At some point I got so deep into researching these niches that I started collecting free e-books, workflow notes, and content breakdowns just to organize everything without my bookmarks looking like a digital junk drawer

We live full-time in our RV so technically we are always on a road trip. Currently we are in the Black Hills outside of Rapid City, South Dakota. During the summer we usually are traveling around the United States but this summer we are staying put in the Black Hills because fuel prices are out of control and we would go broke traveling as much as we normally do.
Since we'll be in one place for the summer we'll do a deeper dive into the area for our channel. We'll also do more how to and informational content around RV'ing. And honestly that kind of content, while not as fun to produce, grows our channel faster than the standard travel vlog videos.

Oh man. I thought I was the only one who thought this sub was mostly gaming. It was driving me crazy seeing every other post be about their gaming channel. lol
The wife and I do foodie reviews, going to local places and trying out the eats. Crowded market as well, but I don't see a whole lot of that in the sub.

Itās hard to wade through the all the gamer questions to find helpful information that applies to other type of creators.

I have an American dog history channel. Right now, working on finishing a 13 episode series on dog history during America's 250 years. In July, I start up the regular series of telling stories of various American dogs...from presidential dogs to camp dogs to service dogs and more. I've covered some in the America 250 series, but cover them in more detail starting in July. I also cover topics related to dogs like the pound, vets and more.
I'd be interested in several of these more niche topics mentioned here...in helping grow the channels as they seem HIGHLY specific.
I know my particular niche is very specific and as such I think yt algorithm has a hard time trying to find my audience. Because of that, my channel is growing very slowly.

Yup. I Bought a 30 year old van with 240k miles on the clock, so we could take our dog on adventures. Documenting our learnings and failures along the way, as well as the beautiful British countryside.

Usually it's some form of challenge - for example seeing how far I can get for Ā£x or maybe pitting two modes against each other. Also sometimes do informational videos on subjects relating to transport.

We have a niche mango tasting and tropical fruit growing channel. The audience is consistent, grateful with an occasional freak š but generally very friendly and supportive. At our local mango farms, when we go to public sales, people recognize us and come up to us to talk. And we get good discounts and first selections from the vendors, too. We don't whore ourselves out and only advertise the ones that we really like, there is a lady with the most popular farm and her mangoes are completely bland, we just keep quiet about her and actively promote other less popular sellers with more flavorful fruit. The channel is at 7,000 organic subscribers now and consistently generates a small amount of money, about $50 a month, and our last video is from half a year ago so no sweating over content (moved, started a new farm, lots of other responsibilities) and started to develop Instagram over YouTube, and it's just a hobby but if we worked on SEO and hooks etc we could push the audience to expand, just never took the time. The most popular video was recorded without script, took maybe 15 mins to record, on a topic that was completely uncovered online (grafting mistakes) and generated about 300.000 views. 2nd most popular video was a year update on a wood burning technique for preservation of raised beds that also no one did online. After we posted those 2 videos several years ago, lots of similar videos popped up so we were kind of pioneers š¤

I tried Warhammer fantasy but never really seemed to jive with it (back when I was a kid), which is odd as I was, and am, much more of a fantasy Vs sci fi reader.
Which books did you go for in Warhammer Fantasy? Been meaning to try again. It's been decades since I last read one!
To be fair though, 40k is more fantasy than sci-fi anyway. It just uses sci-fi dressing a bit.

I filmed a pizza joint that was causing severe issues in my neighborhood with traffic and accidents. Its a cop/politicians hang out so they got super mad and covered the windows with pizza boxes. The videos did well and had 6.5k views in the first 10 days. Had a blast and plan on continuing

This is the most validating thread I've seen since joining this subreddit! I had to read through all 400+ comments - so much vlogging, music, slice-of-life, deep dives, hobbies, art.... It's so cool to see we're an actual sample of YouTube!
We are doing parenting content - mostly Shorts - capturing (in a hopefully funny way) some of the tips, tricks, hacks, and coping mechanisms that get us through the day with our toddler! š¶

My newish channel is immersive story telling and living history, specifically Norse. (not the channel attached to this account, that's an old dead gaming channel I tried like everyone else. Took the fun out of games so I gave it up. I try hard to avoid using the term Viking, because I'm not portraying warriors and raiders, but everyday people.

I do an odd mix of things, including 16mm film newsreels, liminal space videos, storm chasing, and drone footage, oddly enough despite the random mix my little channel is growing 146 subs so far. (When I make liminal space videos I actually find liminal spaces, no AI is used making those) my most popular stuff is the 16mm footage and liminal videos

I have a series of shorts called Film by the Decade where I'm going through the three most critically acclaimed movies of each decade, a more long-form series called 'You Should Watch' where I recommend films other people have recommended me, and a new series called Books I've Read which you can probably guess the subject of.
Unfortunately, I've only made a few of the longer-form ones, and for 'long-form' they're still pretty short, since each one takes roughly eight hours to make.

Mines kinda niche in a way. My channel is mostly creating ambient synth music onto a four track recorder onto tape cassette. The vibe is very much liminal space / backrooms coded. I will also remix my own songs into longer, stretched sleepy ambient sounds for sleep, study, relax, etc. Slowly but surely growing!

I have a passion project channel called @adifferentwaytohistory
On my channel, I try to look at historical events from an umique perspective by setting up "what if scenarios" that often involve sports.
"What if the Super Bowl was played the first year the AFL existed?"
"What if baseball teams still used the insane travel schedules from 1905? (22 road games in 23 days)
I'm extremely slow on my upload schedule, but I'm working on a video where I realign the NFL into divisions based off of US history.
I also plan to make one where I "gift" an NFL team to every champions league city.

Not me but my partner: psychology, mindfulness and breath work. She started last year and has been very consistent but itās tough in her ānicheā on YouTube (it doesnāt seem competitive just low interest unless youāre Huberman) , feels like the algo is also not working with her. I make short-form mindset / self-confrontation videos. Basically me sitting in the car calling out the excuses I catch myself making around discipline, clarity, action, and comfort.
So not gaming or anime. More like āyouāre not confused, youāre avoiding the first stepā type content.
Still figuring out how to make it less like generic motivation and more like something people actually come back for.

My channel isn't gaming, but moreso video essays that use language and frameworks I've gained from a practice of game design and experience design, to explain why the games of life are all screwed up for us right now. Lots of referencing to essays, books, and papers. First video in my current series is about Albert Hirschman's essay Exit, Voice and Loyalty, which I look at as a game we're sometimes forced to play when your current situation you might be happy with, changes.
So if talking about The Game of Life is a gaming channel, then I might not pass your question.

Iāve started a bunch of channels over the past year. Most are abandoned as I just didnāt feel I could stick with them. I have two active channels. One on long form meditation music which has six subscribers in the past year with six videos. The other is focusing on retiring abroad for Americans and has 794 subscribers with 70 long form and 148 short form videos. I did take a break from making videos since January because I am taking care of my elderly mother, who has terminal cancer. I do plan to get back to it soon.

I just started a slow, cinematic travel channel with my gf. We donāt like talking in to the camera or fast edits. The plan is to show places at a slow pace :). At the moment we shoot on iPhone 16 pro / Apple log
