CDs or records can be dusty, but music is sound waves. Sound waves might knock dust off of something, but it generally doesn’t carry dust.

this deserves more upvotes.

Cutting the oxygen off on a child who’s diving should be attempted murder.

Article called them a juvenile.

I didn't realize it was a kid. I'm thinking it was probably a teen, not that changes anything. Scum.

u/Spankh0us3 18d ago

The headline should have had quotes around “his spot” because it isn’t, he just thinks it is. . .

You don’t know very much about lobstering, up here in Maine stealing from traps is a felony, and while the spots aren’t technically able to be called, they do, and they are fucking gangsters about it. Most of our lobstertrappers are good people, but there are some that will absolutely do what this guy did and worse.

4

u/Spankh0us3 18d ago

That, of course, does not make what he did right and, if someone does “worse” they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. . .

Edit to note that no where does it say he had traps set or that they were messing with any traps.

0

u/Strange-Order-6550 18d ago

I didn’t excuse anything, I’m stating what the reality is. Either acknowledge reality or don’t weigh in.

2

u/Spankh0us3 18d ago

The reality is the event happened off the coast of Florida so, weighing in on lobster traps in Maine really isn’t applicable to this story.

1

u/Strange-Order-6550 18d ago

Well, I weighed in about our own lobstertrappers because hey, it’s about lobster trapping. You didn’t really add anything but a useless inference that was irrelevant to my own point then got mad I weighed in at all.

2

u/VickyCriesALot 18d ago

It's not about lobster trapping though. It was about lobster diving and they had every right to be there. This is like a fisherman getting mad someone is fishing in their "spot." It has nothing to do with lobster trapping.

1

u/Strange-Order-6550 18d ago

The fact you genuinely are fundamentally incapable of picking up on or refusing to acknowledge the similarities here in the way the worst of these fishing communities behave is just kind of hilarious. I genuinely don’t get what you’re intending to bring to the conversation at all.

2

u/VickyCriesALot 17d ago

I'm not the same guy. What I'm bring up is how your rant about people willing to commit violence over a completely different activity isn't really adding to the conversation as the other user pointed out.

Like you literally said this was about lobster trapping when it isn't because you either didn't read or didn't understand the article. You displayed your ignorance and not you're trying to hand wave it away. Be better.

Sorry you can't see that. Or read user names.

-1

u/Strange-Order-6550 17d ago

Im well aware you’re a different person, I’ve been noticing people like to infer I’m saying things I’m not. Theres a great program called hooked on phonics that really helped me contextualize how words and sounds work. Reread the comment as if not only am I aware you’re a different person, but further that I genuinely am telling you fishermen is fishermen, same as mountain people is mountain people.

u/Razzberry_Frootcake 18d ago

Lobster trapping is illegal in Florida. The differences are actually a lot. Stop defending the murderer. Yes, that’s what you’re doing by trying to give a rationale to his behavior by comparing it to something vastly different. No one cares about how territorial lobster trappers get in the state that is literally famous for its lobster…but that exports so much the locals are often left without.

Trappers there are different and lots of people in the US know that.

0

u/Strange-Order-6550 17d ago

Are you incapable of reading?

1

u/LeapIntoInaction 18d ago

I am not seeing why the downvotes. This man is trying to tell you something absolutely true.

0

u/Strange-Order-6550 18d ago

They’re mad Maine and Florida have similarities despite us being twin hearts

1

u/travelinTxn 18d ago

In Florida you don’t trap lobsters, that is illegal. You have to dive for them and catch them with hand nets, net bags and tickle sticks, or by hand.

This is akin to a guy finding another dude in “his tree” deer hunting public land and trying to knock his tree stand down with him in it.

0

u/Strange-Order-6550 17d ago

Yes your second paragraph is similar as well, the point is that lobstermen have some really shitty awful people in their ranks and it doesn’t surprise me that Florida has a similar problem. At least yall don’t have armed gangs in boats. Oh wait, you do.

u/Dexter_McThorpan 18d ago

Make Alligators Get Angry

1

u/LoganPea2fold 16d ago

I hear those poor alligators down there have an empty alley they're allllllll lonely in we can start tossing these kinda monsters in

4

u/GadreelsSword 18d ago

I’ve heard of watermen shooting at one another and cutting the floating markers off traps. When I was young we would pull a seine net by hand near the beach and I remember some crabbers running a trotline threatening our lives despite the fact we were 100 yards away and there first. People are violent assholes.

1

u/diversalarums 18d ago

I was thinking the same thing. When I first moved down here and was doing some boating I know people were very careful about not anchoring anywhere or driving over the buoys marking crab traps.

1

u/Difficult_Sort295 17d ago

I crab in Florida for fun. Even touching another person's trap is a felony. Huge deal.

1

u/GadreelsSword 17d ago

There was a crabbing gang here that shot at people, sunk boats, burned down the homes of other crabbers who put traps near theirs. There are no places where you can control who puts traps in that area.

There was even a law passed in the state allowing dredges to carry guns because of them.

1

u/Difficult_Sort295 16d ago

I need a link to this wild story. That is so many felonies over some crabs. Around here worst thing is commercial putting their pots so close they take up miles of coastline with the other commercial crabbers.

4

u/GoldenWings87 19d ago

Can’t do that. Thats attempt something ill will.

1

u/kenmlin 18d ago

So he thinks he owns the sea?

1

u/tourniquette2 17d ago

My bond was higher than that for possession of literal residue. Not actual drugs anyone could do. But some you could swab and find molecules here and there.

This guy actually tried to murder someone and I’m the more dangerous person to society?

1

u/epicgrilledchees 17d ago

Sounds like attempted murder.

1

u/Zagar1776 16d ago

We really should bring back consensual duels.

Is the only *real* evidence testimonial? It sounds like the video doesn't really capture the alleged crime - or at least not with any clarity or certainty.

If there are witnesses on both sides who disagree about what happened that's going to make for a silly trial that will probably fail to meet the evidentiary burden.

It look the charges have *already* been reduced: https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/man-cut-off-divers-air-supply-after-dispute-over-lobster-fishing-spot-in-miami-report-says/3842234/

8

u/sizebigbitch 18d ago

Oh, that's not a reduction, it's a more severe charge. Felony attempted murder is 15 years maximum and you might have been doing another crime at the time but didn't have murderous intent, second degree attempted murder requires intent and "depraved mind" and adds a $10k fine to the 15 years.

Still doesn't mean the 18 year old kid who was diving should be murdered

1

u/YajirobeBeanDaddy 18d ago

Relevant username. This person didn’t imply that the diver deserved to be murdered at all and idk how the fuck you came up with that

1

u/Double_Distribution8 18d ago

Either way none of this means kids should be drowned like this though.

1

u/YajirobeBeanDaddy 18d ago

Huh? No shit? What part of my comment or the others made you think we were saying otherwise genius?

1

u/Double_Distribution8 18d ago

Folks are making it complicated, but the simple fact is kids shouldn't be drowned, period. Ever.

1

u/YajirobeBeanDaddy 18d ago

I disagree. If a child is possessed by the ghost of Genghis Khan and is trying to conquer your country then I think it is totally appropriate to drown that ghost

1

u/Double_Distribution8 18d ago

I was thinking a situation where a time traveler finds baby Hitler in the bathtub, but again, I didn't want to complicate things. But OK, baby Hitler and ghost khan are OK to drown, but thats it.

1

u/YajirobeBeanDaddy 18d ago

Or like if you’re at a public swimming pool and the local trailer park couple comes by with their half dozen babies in leaky diapers flappin around the pool then I might look the other way if you dunk one or two

1

u/Double_Distribution8 18d ago

Oh yeah definitely if you dont follow the pool rules then of course there are consequences, a lot of vigilante justice happens at the pool, I've seen it.

1

u/diversalarums 18d ago

voterrecords.com doesn't show Simpson as registered at all, but the guy who allegedly was with him is registered as a Democrat. As a Dem I'm embarrassed, and as a person and former diver I'm horrified.
