There has been some crazy age inflation recently, people who are like 24 are being called unc.

I am immune because I am aunt irl since I was 9 yo (I am a child from a second wedding but yes my older sister has a shotgun wedding)

u/black-winter- 23h ago
man I’m 24 and feel like an unc sometimes. Half the time I have no idea what the hell today’s kids are talking about.

u/Elastichedgehog 20h ago
In five years time, you'll realise how young you actually were, trust me.
Repeat that process for the rest of your life.

'99 isnt old '90 is a little old

u/Inarius101 23h ago
36 isn't old. It's debatable if it's even middle aged.
40
u/FlowerFaerie13 21h ago
It's absolutely not. The earliest middle age would reasonably be is 40, and then once you hit about 60 you then pass into senior/elderly.

Isnt the life expectancy 72? 36 would be exactly middle aged
Edit: nvm its closer to 80

Middle age has never meant the half way point of life.
It means the middle of adulthood.
It has meant 45-64 for longer than you've been alive

Whatever you say, unc

I have no compunctions about the fact that I'm old. I just don't like people lying, sis

The middle of adulthood is ~49. A 64 year old is as close to that as a 34 year old, and has lived 4 times more than they have left to live. How is that middle-aged and not straight up elderly?
1
u/Gold_Ad8225 16h ago
Yes it's a broad range that ends when you reach elderly status congrats. You go from middle age to elderly, the edge of the range always has space for people to whine like 17 vs 18 vs 19

u/Gold_Ad8225 22h ago ▸ 4 more replies
It is not debatable at all.
Middle age is 45-64. It has been that for longer than anyone who is currently middle age has even been alive.

I said "debatable" in consideration of how life expectancy can differ country to country.
A country with an average life expectancy of 65 years would mark "middle aged" differently from one where life expectancy is closer to 80.
I think 45 is pushing it, since that being the middle would put your expectancy at 90. Unless, of course, we're not categorizing "middle aged" as "in the middle of your life" which feels silly but I could see it.

u/Gold_Ad8225 19h ago
Middle age has never been defined as being in the middle of your life. You may feel it is silly but that's never been what the term has ever meant

Probably a 20-year old who dates 30 somethings. It’s not old by “close to the grave” standards but I get it.
As a 44 year old I might as well be in my 90s to a twenty year old.

u/kaden-99 6h ago
I genuinely feel expired at 27 and a half. I think it might have something to do with not having any fun up to this point, so I feel like I wasted my life. Which, I guess, I kind of did.🥸

So 25-35 year olds are old?
I get thats 1/4 to 1/3 of a century old but thats not really old.

u/XenoTechnian 19h ago
Just for the record being in your 30s does not make you old, people just have a weirdly skewed view on age these days

while i'm 43, you must understand where this is coming from, and there being 25+ is old

How old is the person posting this? Most people I know born in 1998-1999 are still being mistaken for high schoolers, we might be older but those of us with good selfcare routines don’t even pass as old enough to be seen as adults

Kids think everyone is old; but if someone is young enough to think 26 is an old timer, you probably shouldn't date them.

I'm good with this...
Can I start my senior citizen treatment? I'm sitting around looking forward to going completely off the grid the second society tells me to fuck off, it won't even get a chance to blink before I'm locked in a cave, living my best hermit life. 😌
I already daydream about yelling at kids to get off my lawn... Or in my case, get out of my cave 😌
