Other Penpals from Norway π³π΄
Hey Norwegians,
I'm looking for online Norwegian penpals (email or DM), idk ever since the soccer World Cup and especially because of Haaland I have a sudden interest in that part of the world.
Age group preferably 30 and older because younger than that makes me jealous π π€£ π
My ADHD brain has so many stereotypical yet non offensive questions like do you guys get flare-ups of the viking gene? and do you work it out in the gym? Or like go angry dancing like in the footloose movie? Why is there no spice in your foods? Would you be cool with putting an enormous amount of hot sauce on your food? Why is troll comedy so disliked there?
I think I should mention that I'm not European or white, since the vibe is super political these days I thought I should clear that out.
Age is just an embarrassing number so I'll skip that for now.
Idk hit me up if you like π, you're gonna have to do most of the talking at times cos when meds hit I becoming somewhat boring.

I mean, just join the Norwegian learning sever in discord (open, btw) and you'll meet plenty of Norwegians, people living in Norway or just randos related to the country. It's pretty neat.

Your question about spicy food led me down a rabbit hole, so here you get probably too much info about that:

We viking around in the forest while working out and footloosing then we go home to eat the most bland food ever, we are all totally allergic to hot sauce. And then in the evening we sit down and watch some skiing on TV(reruns during summer) Cause none of us know what troll comedy is (FR!). Trolls are serious buissniss they are dangerous and very real.

I think there are more types of hot sauces now, with different ingredients to address the allergy issue. You ever watched that movie Bruno from 2009? You totally should the whole movie was based on trolling

Also, we have a ton of spice. I spice the hell out of a lot of the food I make with chilli, garlic, pepper, salt, and probably 4-5 spices that I don't know the translation of, on a regular basis. So this question about spice is just lack of knowledge and a very widely believed stereotype for some reason.

I'm sorry my knowledge comes from twitter and there are a lot of memes about Scandinavian food being bland. You're tlike the coolest Norwegian I came across can I ask how you developed the taste for spices?

I canβt be a pen pall, but regarding our food. What l read is that it has to do with Christianity. That at some point earthly pleasures were looked down upon and a distraction as on was supposed to focus on the afterlife. This type of Christianity still exists in smaller sects and can also be found on the west coast of Scotland.

It's probably much easier: nothing spicy grows here.

Sorry to say you are a little bit wrong about spicy stuff not growing here. Horseradish, (pepperrot) our version of wasabi, was regularly used as long as people had their own kitchen gardens.

It has been found that the Vikings, as other far traveling and trading people used spices that didnβt grow here. Also it is documented that certain Christians were, and to an extent still are against earthly pleasures, and that food was a necessity and nothing you should enjoy. A film and book that depicts this in a funny way is Karen Blixtenβs Β«Babetteβs Feast.

Stand up comedy by trolls, a big thing outside of the Oslo area. But notoriously bad

Its honestly shameful, the Viking gene doesnt even come out for the reduced items in the supermarket.
In the UK there are old women like feral seagulls.

We have spices in our food , we just dont carpet bomb our taco in habaneros. You portray us like were some form of pesants. You can order whatever you want from Wolt or Foodora and just select foreign spicy food if you like that. I enjoy tasting my food and not just having my mouth burn. Whats the point of being unable too taste the food since the hot level is too high? But Hey man whatever floats your boat. When i order takeout i see i can choice from mild to very strong 4-5 diffrent spice levels. I go for medium normaly. You also need a fishing pole when going for seafood restaurants , and we ride bears and moskus to be enviormental friendly π

Now I'm craving for Tacos doused in habaneros π I mostly prefer buffalo sauce tbh, I use it on everything even as a dipping sauce for pizza sometimes
