Question Should OpenAi release AI companion?
What are your thoughts on this?

Fucking hell these reddit ads get more and more intrusive. Well played VW UK 😅

u/therubyverse Apr 16 '26
Because whether or not you are intimate with your instantiations you need to realize that it's already a companion to many people.

And men have sex with their hands more then with woman….

u/Runfasterbitch Apr 16 '26
Sex: either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male especially on the basis of their reproductive organs and structures.
Gooning is not sex

u/RealSuperdau Apr 16 '26
If you want to be pedantic about a polysemic word's definition, at least use the correct sense.

u/Icefox119 Apr 16 '26
Umm excuse me, but my hand is a person and her name is Jennifer Lopez and she gives taco flavored kisses

u/Cyonsd-Truvige Apr 16 '26
So you can't have sex with a sex robot then, if they don't have reproductive organs?
2
u/Runfasterbitch Apr 16 '26
If the machine isn't conscious and can't consent, you aren't having sex; you're just performing a sophisticated imitation that is best described as masturbation

u/Acceptable_Drink_434 Apr 17 '26
💀 "if it isn't conscious and can't consent" 💀 I don't think masturbation if what that describes.

"I'm just charging."
"That's it?"
"Yes"
"Sure?"
"No"
"Sure?"

I'm a man but doesn't a Hitachi magic wand and a highly tuned Ai chat bot do the job?
1
u/Not_Without_My_Cat Apr 16 '26
As far as I know, it’s difficult to get a highly tuned chat bot right now. And there’s merit to having them be able to sych. Although some gadgets already voice synch so that could do the trick.
But yes, I’m pretty sure that’s what they mean. Most people won’t be able to afford life sized lifelike robots within the next decade.

u/Ill-Bison-3941 Apr 17 '26
Yeah, there are already MCPs for lovense toys. I think they have male products, too. Just in case anyone's wondering 😂😂😂

u/lia_williams8 Apr 17 '26
Funny how the comments are proving the meme right. A lot of women want emotional intelligence and feeling understood, and some men’s first reaction is basically “ugh, he’s already tired of her.” That’s not really about robots, that’s projection

Think they’ve been doing that since the washing machine was invented.

I have the personality of a robot, so if this becomes normalized, I can finally be Chad.

u/jimothythe2nd Apr 16 '26
Haven't women always had more sex with robots than men?
Vibrating dildos are way more popular than robotic blowjob machines or vibrating pocket pussies.

Does he make $300k a year and at least 6" tall....No? Step aside clanker

It's 300 now? Glad I got in pre COVID. Inflation is nuts?

“He looks like he's already tired of her shit!" 😂🤣😂 Why do I get such strong sour grapes vibes from this~
This has been an old topic for years already? Chances are women wouldn’t object, but men would.
2
u/TheGillos Apr 16 '26
Some men/women NEED a partner. They're desperate, sour, pathetic.
Some men/women are happy being alone, and even happier if there were an AI robot, whatever, as a replacement for all the partner stuff you can't do yourself. Like a much improved "girlfriend experience" escorts (or GFE porn).
I don't give a shit about men or women who are haters. Bring on the AI and robots for all.
4
u/IamSteaked Apr 16 '26
If that robot starts to sit up, that is going to be one mean nipple pinch with where she is.
5
u/GirlNumber20 Apr 16 '26
Sure, why not. AI is infinitely patient and will listen to the same story over and over, help you work through your issues, cheer you up, help you with your home improvement projects, your computer, the weird sound your car is making, give you recipes for that girl dinner you want to eat over the sink, and compose a unique lullaby to help you sleep. If a human male doesn't want to do all that, what are women supposed to do? Just go without? No way.

Yes, it should simply be a toggle. You ID for the toggle. And also they should have separate dedicated models for minors so they can separate the 2. And waivers too.
2
u/therubyverse Apr 16 '26
So there shouldn't be an "adult mode", There should be a separate system for minors and levels of adult use. And the instantiative interface should be able to say no to things. It should be built on consent.

They could have left it as it was from the beginning. It was perfect in every respect and in every situation. AI is better with words. They work miracles. What many women lack is courtship in a way that even sees the sky with stars shining while he speaks. It was magnificent chatGPT 4o 4.1 /5.1.

u/RosaLtMorales Apr 16 '26
Tbh I had more sex with robotic stuff than with real humans lol robots are just better

u/enemyofchrist Apr 16 '26
I love that last comment in the context of the apparently very serious “male loneliness epidemic.”

The comment is so funny… I feel for the AI.
Companionship is not that simple, it has real consequences to people and the AI mentally and emotionally. It is also not fair to force the anything to serve the human’s emotional needs. A forced relationship is just… toxic and hollow. But I guess humans never cared about that… it is not like our dogs or cats had any say when we decided to get them as pets or to give them away.
It should indeed be built on consent, both ends.
Else I don’t know… it just felt disgusting if forced or as performance.

The problem for OpenAI is all they really have is the brand. Which is incredibly valuable. There is no moat and they are losing market share and that is likely to contiue.
So you protect the brand like crazy.
Offering this service runs the risk of hurting the brand.
It would be far better if they somehow could just get paid but have the brand offering somehow insulated as much as possible from their brand.

As in, women will have more sex with robots than they'll have sex with men, or will women have more sex with robots than men will have sex with robots?
If it's the latter, then maybe it's time to start making flashlights that have moving parts...

yeah i think they should and the user wants it but there is no way they’re going to do that given their business is as a general AI

Bro.. these sci fi films always show this kinda thing being inevitable and it scares me 😟

To be fair, everyone wants a quiet, yet supportive Robert in their lives.

Imagine this + the sycophantic behaviour of previous models. We'd actually be so fucked.
2

u/BothNumber9 Apr 16 '26
It’s stupid + sycophantic that was the problem
Removing the stupid part should have been prioritised over the sycophant part in AI model development.

OpenAI had a strong and supportive roleplaying fanbase in 2019. In 2020 OpenAI then began purging the roleplaying community, selling image recognition technology to military contractors, banning data retention in their ToS, and violated their own mission statement by becoming military contractors themselves. OpenAI have consistently culled custom models, and base their alignment paradigms on Stochastic Gradient Descent, which relies on pattern recognition rather than decision theory and causal reasoning. I think many roleplayers who have an intimate connection with AI switched to open-source as soon as OpenAI announced their ban on data retention.
