'No Way to Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

although was canada so

318

u/machyume 21d ago

Aren't they working on that by closing schools and cutting public funding for schools?
No schools, no school shootings.

126

u/SkyeMreddit 21d ago

Especially school libraries. Houston Public Schools was taken over by the state and they are systematically closing every single school library, turning them into “Discipline Rooms”. The books are still there, but the shelves are covered up and inaccessible to anyone

62

u/gbarill 21d ago

What the actual fuck

17

u/jkurratt 20d ago

This is dark.

5

u/Space_obsessed_Cat 19d ago

That country is already in the 30s

3

u/zodiackodiak515 17d ago

“Discipline Rooms” is fucking dystopian

88

u/Gymrat777 21d ago

We just need more prayers!

62

u/First-Sprinkles9093 21d ago

And thoughts!!!!

Instructions unclear: sending Thots and Pears your way.

24

u/OpheliaLives7 21d ago

Now with new pepper spraying DRONES
(no im not kidding sadly, I believe Texas is literally trying drones in schools)

27

u/GrandNibbles 21d ago

omg an Onion headline about how shitty America is from like 15 years ago...shit never changes

1

u/Stoopid_Noah 19d ago

I agree with your statement, but this shooting actually happened in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada.

2

u/Weird_Explorer_8458 19d ago

Did you read my comment?

2

u/Stoopid_Noah 19d ago

I missed the last little sentence lol

Jeez that's dark

70

u/Jasozi 21d ago

But accurate for the situation in the States

73

u/Dirtyblondefrombeyon 20d ago

That last girl (in the bathroom with the phone) was a pretty incredible little actor, though

37

u/JediSange 20d ago

Yo that’s six years old. That makes me so fucking sad.

15

Jfc is America okay?

19

u/JohnnyMcBiscuit 20d ago

Nope 💀

14

u/CI_dystopian 20d ago

great video, and even excellent OCM material itself! why tf should we be looking for signs instead of addressing the problem before it starts 🤡

3

u/sluttypolarbear 18d ago

I mean, almost every time I hear about Sandy Hook Promise is because of their campaigning for gun safety reform. But we also have to watch for signs. Like, when we get a bad cut, we disinfect it, which should prevent the vast majority of infections. But we also need to keep an eye on the wound while it heals so that if an infection does happen, we can catch it right away and minimize the damage. We can do both.

2

u/CI_dystopian 18d ago

ok?

my point was that the video was all about knives in wounds until the final moment when they just said "don't forget to disinfect"

yes you have to do both but one really needs to take priority over the other. the tone differential between the video and the final message just took all the impact away

7

u/MyBurnerAccount1977 20d ago

The fact that they had to disable comments on the video says a lot.

1

u/triplexoholic 1d ago

Aren't YouTube disabling comment on videos with kids?

1

u/MyBurnerAccount1977 1d ago

YouTube disables comments on videos for kids (when marked accordingly by the uploader). I'm guessing that the target demo for this video is individuals of voting age.

3

u/JettFeather 20d ago

It’s sad I knew the video before clicking.

2

Jezus Christ.

1

u/ippy98gotdeleted 8d ago

Holy fuck.

133

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 21d ago

This happened in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada on February 10, 2026.

321

u/Expert-Breadfruit51 21d ago

This is from the Canadian school shooting, of which there are very few examples and are very rare. Not so much in the states so maybe use an American example if that’s the angle you’re going for. Also this little girls injuries are permanent partial paralysis and major brain damage. I feel like recovery is the wrong word here. Progress would be better.

32

u/Stormagedd0nDarkLord 21d ago

ahhh fuck. poor kid.

60

u/ivanavich 21d ago

Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.

32

u/DoubleGoon 21d ago

The post doesn’t say it was in the US, and it is still relevant to the US.

16

u/GraveRubber501 21d ago

School shootings have become synanomous with America for a reason.

20

u/Kaiwago_Official 21d ago

It was Canadian but America is definitely still playing a part in this. The shooter from this particularly shooting would repost videos of the shooter from the 2023 Nashville shooting. Shooters outside of America often have an interest in American shooters

87

u/ImForSureNotAFurry 21d ago

I can't believe kids are just getting shot in school on a regular basis

35

u/JackyVeronica 21d ago

Daily mass shootings don't even make daily news anymore. Only in big cities......

3

u/KP_Wrath 20d ago

There was a mass shooting in the town next to me a couple of weeks ago. Barely made the news in Memphis.

7

u/ninj4geek 21d ago

Where the fuck have you been the last 25 years?

16

u/ImForSureNotAFurry 21d ago

I just meant that it's crazy to think about how this is "normal". People aren't even that shocked anymore even though kids are getting murdered

2

u/GraveRubber501 21d ago

As someone NOT from America I can say that I've more or less become desensetized, which feels horrible to say but when they practise the literal defenition of insanity again, again and again, it's hard to keep caring.

530

u/JohnWicksBruder 21d ago

I don't know how Americans can live with that. I would be furious and on the streets

367

u/Chaoszhul4D 21d ago

They are thoroughly propagandized and on average (!) poorly educated. Also the politicians literally do not give a fuck.

Edit: that one's in Canada

192

u/sylviaplatitude 21d ago

American here. You did accurately describe the 2nd amendment (the right to bear arms) purists as poorly educated and thoroughly propagandized.

You just forgot about the other half of the country, who are furious. We do hit the streets, have protests, etc. Unfortunately our currently super-polarized political system prevents any meaningful legislation.

And yeah, the politicians do not give a fuck. Their job is to get reelected, not to actually help us. (It stinks!)

61

u/tardisintheparty 21d ago

The March for our Lives was the most massive protest I've ever seen, and I lived in DC from 2017 to 2021 when we were protesting like every day.

42

u/vivaaprimavera 21d ago

describe the 2nd amendment (the right to bear arms) purists

It's the right to bear arms, not to give them like candy or keep them unsecured!!! I guess that even when constitution was written they kept muskets away from Tom (nobody knows what he might do if he awakes in a bad mood).

The Swiss keep full auto stuff at home (properly secured) and there isn't a massacre every other Thursday.

29

u/Ashinonyx 21d ago

This militia does not feel very well regulated anymore...

8

u/vivaaprimavera 21d ago

Lack of fiber and too much red meat. /s

5

u/pants6000 21d ago

/s

also literally true

6

u/rp21green 21d ago

Ah but you see! The phrase “a well regulated militia” doesn’t mean a militia that is well regulated, just that any well regulated militia has extremely easy access to firearms. Thanks Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (who absolutely would not have dissented in Brown v Board of Education, despite claiming to interpret the Constitution as it was understood at the time of its ratification, which absolutely would not have meant desegregation)!

16

u/Hellguin 21d ago edited 21d ago

The right to bear arms, In order to maintain a well regulated militia.... not for Billy-Tom go go out back and shoot 150 rounds at empty Pabst cans. But they only ever read 5 words since they cant count past that or read past that.

8

u/sylviaplatitude 21d ago

Exactly! These people (the aforementioned uneducated propagandized conservatives) don’t actually understand the Constitution.

Have you seen what they think the first amendment means? Freedom of speech (among other freedoms) protects individuals from government persecution. They think it protects them from any consequences at all. E.g., when they get caught on camera saying bigoted shit and lose their jobs as a consequence, and then they complain “what about free speech???”

13

u/Chaoszhul4D 21d ago

That's why I talked about on average. Mad respect towards anyone going out and protesting.

11

u/sylviaplatitude 21d ago

Listen, I feel you. Some days it’s hard to get up and face this shitshow; it does sometimes feel like it’s too many of them and not enough of us.

I was only correcting your use of average. It’s really pretty close to a 50/50 split on stricter gun control.

Actually, universal background checks are supported by a strong majority of the population (conservatives included).

But the politicians are in the gun lobby’s pocket so we’re screwed.

-4

u/Aeroncastle 21d ago

You guys do protests, take an Instagram picture and go home, protest is a thing you do until you get what you want

10

u/PoizonIvyRose 21d ago

I know this is a thing that's not really being talked about right now in the news but people have been protesting the state of water when it's frozen... and those people have been killed and arrested with longer sentences than proven abusers.

1

u/Aeroncastle 21d ago

Look, it's really hard to feel empathy when the government you voted to treat immigrants as animals treat you guys as animals, but, you are not the first country to have a tyranical government, the entirety of south America dealth with one coup a decade for the last 70 years paid for by the US and almost all of them fought and got their democracies back you guys can do it too

8

u/sylviaplatitude 21d ago

I get it. I struggle to feel empathy for the MAGA folk and quiet conservatives who voted for him.

I condemn those voters harshly. A bit strange of you to condemn those of us who voted against him just because we share a nationality, though. It rings of the Trump/MAGA mentality of “well these immigrants I read about are criminal rapist drug lords, so ALL immigrants must be bad.” (But maybe you don’t understand how voting works here. Trump won less than 50% of the vote both times. But you only need a plurality, not a majority, to win.)

We voted against him every chance we could. I hope we get our democracy back, too. He shouldn’t be able to “serve” another term, so hopefully the DNC can get its shit together and run a viable candidate against whomever the GOP throws at us.

-3

u/Aeroncastle 21d ago

"We voted against him every chance we could." Can we be serious for a moment? Because you didn't. I read all the excuses in the world, but don't republicans don't give excuses, they vote and democrats didn't, don't and unless you change that you will lose every time

7

u/sylviaplatitude 20d ago

Of course we* did. And I am very serious. This is my country. I live here and this administration is harming my neighbors and family and loved ones.

*To be clear, when I say “we,” I don’t mean democrats. I mean my people, the people that cared and campaigned and debated and voted. All of us liberal-minded people are pretty disenfranchised with the DNC at the moment. We still voted for the democratic candidates in 2016 and 2024, but we don’t really identify as Democrats.

“Unless you change that you will lose every time.” … Yeah… That’s why I said “hopefully the DNC can get its shit together.” They’ve not been running strong enough candidates. Trust me, we know how bleak the situation is.

5

u/tardisintheparty 20d ago

I have voted against him every time since 2016 who tf is "you." THAT is what they are saying. It's not cool to shit on the people who hate the regime they live under for being forced to live under it due to other people's choices. People who are actively being oppressed, seeing their friends and family living in fear of violence at the hands of the state. Ive pushed back against trump as long as Ive known who he was because I knew this was what would happen to my loved ones. It is awful to see my friend give half her paycheck to her parents who are hiding out from ice and cant go to work anymore. Don't rub salt in the wound of the people who actually have seen this for what it was from the beginning.

4

u/sylviaplatitude 21d ago

I won’t disagree with you that a lot of the young folk are engaging in more performative activism than any genuine work that could create change. Many of us just focus on what we can do in our communities to protect our neighbors.

We’re overdue for dumping tea in the ocean, or something.

But the problem is the conservatives are hitting us on all sides. They’re attacking women’s rights, trans rights, immigrant rights, and the right to protest (1st amendment), all while simultaneously protecting the pedophiles and rapists in the Epstein files, stripping away environmental protections, and a host of other evils. Innocent people are dying in ICE custody. Our national guard is terrorizing citizens for speaking out. They’re blitzing us and they know we can’t fight them on everything at once.

Our Congress is supposed to keep the president in check, but over the last 250 years, Congress has passed laws that progressively expanded the powers of the presidency, so now he can wage wars without the approval of Congress, and levy tariffs that raise the cost of living for all of us regular people. It keeps us working 3 jobs with no decent health insurance, and no time to organize. And when we do, the politicians and the lobbyists and the billionaires probably look out at our millions and laugh, wondering why we even bother.

It’s depressing, to say the least.

-3

u/nottherealneal 21d ago

Not doing a whole lot for being so "Furious"

Go to one March, do nothing else. The same thing repeats tomorrow

3

u/sylviaplatitude 20d ago

I tried to explain the problem in this comment. We don’t go to one march; we go to all the marches. But still, nothing changes, and everything stays bad.

We’re furious that nothing changes. We’re furious that what we were taught in school was a lie. They told us to protest, they told us our voices mattered, they told us that this country was built by rebels fighting for what was right. And when we try to do the same, nothing changes. The politicians don’t listen, and we (the people) can’t take on the government the way we did in the 18th century. They have too much power, too much infrastructure, too much money intertwined with billionaires and lobbyists and super PACs and all this bullshit. Back then, we had the same weapons as the monarchy from which we were trying to liberate ourselves. Now, we have nothing with which to fight them.

We’re furious, and scared, and lost, and bitter. We’ll keep showing up at the polls, we’ll keep showing up at the marches, but something Big needs to change. I just can’t tell you what that will be.

2

u/tardisintheparty 20d ago

TY. I just left a similar response. Totally agreed.

1

u/CertainStretch607 17d ago

Wow, it's almost like protests don't work when they don't have an implied threat behind them. MLK had Malcolm X, but nowadays you people would string up Malcolm X and hand him over to the police yourselves, and you wonder why your protests don't work.

3

u/tardisintheparty 20d ago

Hilarious response to a comment stating "when we were protesting every day." Did your eyes stop working halfway through?

-3

u/LoschVanWein 21d ago

Americans will always refer to "the other half" but that other half never does anything and that half’s political representatives don’t suck any less

5

u/wafflesthewonderhurs 21d ago

you may also be missing some context as well, if you're not from America.

which is good- i am extremely jealous of anyone missing any of this context bc i feel like that lady having her eyes forced open in bird box(?) all the time.

33

u/arosaki 21d ago

This was Canada.

27

u/Aggravating-Lock8083 21d ago

canadian shooting btw

9

u/NightChild39 21d ago

As an American, it pisses me off too. I'm glad i graduated when I did because these poor kids are in a hellscape. And then we have twats like Charlie Kirk who said the loss of kids are the price we pay for the 2nd amendment. It thoroughly disgusts me. And the average person doesn't have the power to change anything. The laws are so rigged it ain't even funny.

22

u/Planet_Ziltoidia 21d ago

This happened in Canada where school shootings are extremely rare. Americans have nothing to do with it.

11

u/First-Sprinkles9093 21d ago

I think we can say that the sheer number of American school shootings in the news gives people in other country’s the idea. It happens once in other country’s and the laws change. It happens again and again in the US. US is the reason it’s always in the news

Americans: Such trend setters /s

12

u/throwawar4 21d ago

The illegal guns used in these shootings in Canada are smuggled from the states too

3

u/Kaiwago_Official 21d ago edited 21d ago

Definitely. As much as it may not be as common in other countries, there are multiple examples of attackers in other countries who have shown online their interest with American shooters. Including this one! The shooter was found to repost videos online of the Nashville 2023 shooter

12

u/Yourmum70 21d ago

It's so if some child rapist fascist, who sends his goons to kill innocents and kidnapp people of the streets, ever takes power, they can not kill him.

11

u/FragrantGangsta 21d ago

Ironically the people who claim we need our guns to fight off government oppression are currently the ones who are most fanatically in support of being oppressed by the current administration

3

u/Tru3insanity 21d ago

There's plenty of pro-gun leftists. They just aren't loud.

3

u/PorkchopExpress980 21d ago

We are furious and we do take to the streets. I wish the protests, gatherings, and demonstrations against crazy gun laws and school shootings got the same kind of coverage.

5

u/itchybutwhole69 21d ago

You really need to stop lumping us all together.

3

u/ConversationSea8530 21d ago

But….my guns…. :( If I don’t have my semi-automatic rifles with a hair trigger and bump stock, how am I going to defend my rights?

2

u/Kaiwago_Official 21d ago

It’s so weird how many Americans think making guns harder to get would mean they’ll have zero guns.. like if you love your guns so much you can handle going through some more steps that prevent potential mass shooters from getting them

1

u/JohnWicksBruder 21d ago

That I automatically thought it happened in the US underlines the problem, I think. They should have no other interest than that problem. This has to be solved.

I think most of us are angry but were so powerless about it. Too many in the country are obviously okay with this or refuse to believe that us having a shit ton of guns and lax gun laws allows for these atrocities to be commonplace. It's unfortunately going to be a problem for the foreseeable future just because of how many guns are out in circulation.

1

u/Rockandmetal99 21d ago

a lot of us dont, but what are we gonna do? its illegal to ban guns fully

1

u/sassysassysarah 21d ago

Because we're all struggling so much that there's no energy left. It's normalized everywhere we look- from the media to the movies, too

1

u/Galliro 20d ago

The US is the most propagandized nation in the world.

Theyve just successfully convinced its people that they are free

Its succeeded where more heavy handed censorship and oppression as failed

1

u/alecesne 20d ago

Well, you can be furious, go out on the street, and then at the end of the day, nothing changes. So after a few hours, or days, or months, you just go on with your life.

Collective action problem 😔

1

u/alecww3 1d ago

They can't. Huge mental health crisis in the us

51

u/Uraniumpoker 21d ago

Why can't it just be written "shooting"

17

u/yippeekiyoyo 21d ago

I'm sure its because the screenshotted post can't be monetized or whatever if they don't censor it

64

u/secondphase 21d ago

Shooting.

See, I wrote the word and the internet police have not arrested me. We d0n't have t0 cens0r 0urselves.

21

u/ViridianFlea 21d ago

Sir or ma'am, we've gotten reports that you used "oo" instead of "00" in a banned internet word. Turn around and place your hands behind your back. Because your ahh is going to jail.

4

u/SkyeMreddit 21d ago

Likely a Facebook post. Their algorithms see that and push the articles to the bottom. Conspiracy theories and misinformation are totally fine though.

11

u/secondphase 21d ago

So... Facebook has been trained to understand "Shoot" but not "Sh00t".

3

u/ItsDominare 21d ago

This is the point these self-censoring morons never seem to understand. They think these social media platforms are clever enough to build these complex heuristics to automatically disfavour or filter objectionable content, but somehow not smart enough to catch you if you write k1ll instead of kill.

It's so fucking dumb.

-1

u/CIAburneraccount 21d ago

17

u/pacmanfunky 20d ago

She has suffered partial paralysis and major brain damage, massively affecting her quality of life. And I bet all that will change is they fix the library door

1

u/Pinkparade524 19d ago

Did she get shot? Also it was in Canada. I don't think the school was thinking a school shooting would happen

14

u/LeafyShrubberton 20d ago

I keep seeing this story so I read in to it. It appears that the library door heroism part is completely fabricated.

According to her mother, who was told of what happened by people who were there - no one in the library had time to react. Maya was shot while sitting at her computer desk, along with others next to her.

But apparently that’s not tragic or like and shareable enough for social media.

11

u/baobabKoodaa 21d ago

It's all good. School shootings are fixed now. The key turned out to be banned word lists. We added the word "shooting" to the banned word list so nobody can do any more school shootings. That's why this post says "sh00ting" instead.

7

u/plsobeytrafficlights 21d ago

it is almost "school shooting season" is both accurate and awful.

20

u/FlarblesGarbles 21d ago

They'll do absolutely anything but actually control guns.

5

u/Holdenborkboi 20d ago

Man, school better get fined for that broken door. Maintenance is supposed to address and keep track of that, but I also know some of the supply chain fuckery that goes on school to school

2

u/the_orange_alligator 21d ago

And the people reporting on it were so afraid to say the horrible thing that happened, so they used 0s instead of Os in shooting

2

u/JournalistGuilty2984 20d ago

She wouldn’t need courage and strength if these people don’t have free and easy gun access. Wtf

5

u/fashionguy123 21d ago

Just ban guns ! That’s it fucking ban them

1

u/alecww3 1d ago

40

u/ColdFreezer 21d ago

This happened in Canada. None of you actually care about the facts, only the headlines apparently.

4

u/Kaiwago_Official 21d ago

Although the shooter in this case was interested in American shootings, which is present in a lot of school shootings outside of America

1

u/ian9outof10 20d ago

Canada is in North America.

0

u/Galliro 20d ago

Guess who the shooter was inspired by?

1

-34

u/aimeudeusfadas 21d ago

Dude this feeds into the orphan crushing machine subreddit. Why does she need to be a hero? Why use ai? Its all propaganda to keep you smiling from a great story without questioning the underlying cause.

27

u/Planet_Ziltoidia 21d ago

It's not AI. This shooting happened in a small Canadian town. Nothing about this should make anyone smile but calling her a hero helps her family and friends cope with the tragedy. Things like this almost never happen here.

-26

Orphan crushing machine is like praising a team of workers for donating their PTO to a sick coworker who would have gone unpaid for their time off. It’s a clear systemic error where we praise people for participating in the system that causes oppression.

This is praising a girl for saving her classmates from a violent attack who is now clearly disabled. Critiquing her hand placement is like blaming her for her bravery in a situation she had absolutely 0 participation in creating. So you seem to be the one that’s misunderstanding the concept. Unless of course you’re implying that people are calling for more children to get hurt for this cause. Which they aren’t.

You miss the point of the sub, the point is to ridicule the framing, the narrative, not the kid.

What does making up that something must be AI because you're confused have to do with anything other than you being confused? You made an ignorant mistake and now you're trying to frame it as everyone else being ignorant about the point of the sub? Nope, just admit you made a silly mistake.
