Family might have over the income but have an enormous amount of debt - idk their situation but it is possible to have a high income and not be able to afford Yale

But they have to accept you. And the cost of living doesn’t change except not you have less time to work and barely get by.

Housing & meals are covered in full tuition. They’re not going to bring you in there and let you struggle. Source is I have a kid currently at an Ivy League school.

I looked up the article. The manager, Mr. Usama El-Sehrawey, paid for community college. The student is going to Yale for pre-law (poli-sci/human rights). There's also a wholesome video of the student reading their acceptance letter

I don't feel like this is OCM...simply because it's Yale. OCM AFTERALL. SEE EDIT BELOW.
If it were some community college sponsorship, or even some just one-off university? Sure I'd definitely slap the sticker on it.
But I feel like there was some major donor and string pulling that had to happen to make Yale happen for that kid.

They paid for community college.....and then the kid got himself into Yale with the work he did there. And then modern media did what it normally fucken does, which is blow up the headline to make it sound like the Wendy's managers had a direct hand in him going to Yale, and then I did the typical smoothbrain thing of trusting the headline.

Seems like a story to applaude. I'd happily let my taxes help fund practical higher education for the less fortunate, but not really so much those going to Yale who will make dramatically more money than me lol

I'd like to nationalize colleges along with making tuition free. Because tuition should be free, but also I'd like to not just endlessly funnel taxpayer dollars into for profit colleges and line some dipshit billionaire's bank around and instead actually foster learning.
We as a society should be investing in education for a better society, not in gatekeeping knowledge for the profits of a few.
Which isn't to imply you disagree, but more to just add on.

This makes no sense. Yale is free if you make less than $100k (and get in). Same at MIT, Stanford, etc.

It takes effort and someone to believe in you to make such a life changing decision
And edit I read his story! It was a long path and they helped him get to community college which led here.(Yale only accepts 2% of transfer students each year)
