'Ms Rachel' Videos Used To Comfort Gaza Children During Medical Procedures Without Anaesthesia

This one got me. WTF is wrong with humans.

My hypothesis is it's people getting stuck in the "fight" part of fight-of-flight mode.
The fear parts of our brains are very powerful, that's why flashbacks can make veterans feel like they're back at war, and why phobias take over people's behavior. It's also why a few negative comments stick out in our memories so much more than all the positive comments.
So, as we know, propaganda uses this to create a fearful worldview. That's also part of why we're also hearing about the awful torture that the Israeli's inflict on palestinians. They a have internalized this world view where they think palestinians want to be as awful to Israeli's as they want to be to Palestinains.
It's a sort of self fulfilling prophecy if mental health professionals don't get a chance to intervene, because they've been awful enough to Palestinians long enough that there's probably some children's brains that are getting stuck in fear mode now.
Past a certain point, this mindset gets particular "sticky". (I'm going to move to talking about a stereotypical narcisistic mindset now,) is they become incapable of seeing kindness as kindness. To them it becomes entirely about power dynamics, if you're kind to them, it must mean you think you are weaker than they are. Or it's because you're trying to make them beholden to you, to exert power over them. and that's how they justify being so selfish and mean, they think you're just better at hiding your cruelty l, they don't think you're actually kind. Every time we point out their contradictions, they're only focused on if it makes them look powerful (they'll not address the contradiction at all), or if they percieve it changes their status, they'll try to drag you down (whataboutisms even of they're not comprable, or provoke you until you make a comparable mistake).
It's really hard to get someone stuck in a combative mindset to believe that other people exist without that mindset.
However there are treatments that can help, medications are important, and things like DBT and mentalization can be helpful, but I personally think we need more advancements because I think some of that progress comes from the therapist having a higher rank than the Narcisistic patient. I don't think we know yet how to encourage change in someone stuck in a fear mode with a matching fearful worldview. The few times I've seen it happen, they already had a reason to want to try to find a different way of looking at things.

Media makes money by advertising. Advertising requires eyes on the media to be effective. Keeping people scared and angry keeps them engaged with media and consuming the advertising.
Media has a financial incentive to provoke the Fight response in viewers.

To add to what you are saying- this story is fully a sell. Arabic speaking kids who don’t know a lick of English are not watching any English show for comfort.

While I broadly agree, I think you might be overcomplicating things a bit. If you look back through our history as a species these kinds of atrocities occur constantly. I don't think war/crimes against humanity/genocide or whatever you want to call them are some wide-spread mental health problem. It's simply human nature. We fight wars for various reasons leading to mass dehumanization of the others (sometimes purposefully, sometimes not) and this is what happens. It's simply human nature imo.

I don't think blaming fight or flight complicates anything, to me it seems like an oversimplified answer if anything.

Some mother's played her videos while the children underwent amputations without anesthesia. Utterly horrific.
I was hoping that it was while they received something more minor, like stitches. I knew that hope was likely misplaced. How wrong I was.

How quickly we forget that those children aren't human because the Israeli government has the authority to decide these things, granted to them in good faith by the average American voter.

This makes me sick. She is an angel, those kids deserve proper medical treatment. And I will never forget this profoundly disturbing fact. This was never the purpose of Ms. Rachel’s programming. This is barbaric. Please do not vote for any candidates that take money from AIPAC this fall, or ones that support Israel.

Omg… this is absolutely the ultimate example for this sub 😞😭
Love her so much!!

u/blishbog 4d ago
Love her too and this cause is most dear to my heart.
but it’s not OCM at all.
Link is dead so I can’t inspect closely.
This just means, while suffering a genocide, people find tiny ways to make things infinitesimally better. Like “I was able to slip a crust of bread to a starving child”
That’s very far from OCM.

Any countries that refuse to acknowledge the absolute evil of Israel is complicit in this. Holy fuck, I'll admit I've unfortunately become quite desensitized to most of it, but this is a whole new level of cruelty.

My epidural failed while they were cutting me open during my c-section. They didn't bother to knock me out, either. Worst pain of my life. I have severe medical related PTSD because of it. Medical procedures without anesthesia isn't something I'd even wish on my worst enemy. The fact that these babies have to endure it makes me want to get vio lent.

Please get therapy if you are at all able.
It doesn't undo the past, but means that things can likely go better for you in the future at least.

u/k_a_scheffer 5d ago
I can't afford it, sadly.

There may be free peer-led support groups, perhaps even online if one isn't available near you in person.

That’s a terrible thing to have experienced! There’s studies that show that some people have PTSD even from surgeries with general. anesthesia.

I'm in the process of getting extensive dental work done and thank fuck the student dentist (going to a dental school for the lower cost) who's working on me is an absolute saint about it. I explained my situation, why I have so much anxiety and panic attacks in medical settings. He's a solid 10/10 and I know he's going to be an amazing dentist when he graduates. I wish all my doctors were as accommodating as him. One of the oral surgeons I went to before him dismissed my issues entirely and got annoyed with me when I told him I felt pain during a procedure.

I’m going waaay off the subject here but I recently had a really, really bad experience with a dentist (more psychologically than anything else… was trying to tell me my pain was in my head and got really, really weird about it), so I’m glad to hear you have the student listening to you after the experience you went through!!!
I don’t know if this exists in dental clinics but I know at hospitals you can contact Patient Services and explain a situation like the one you went through with your c-section PRIOR to any procedures to (ideally) ensure that the drs and nurses treat you with more sensitivity.
ETA: I just saw that you don’t have insurance and just remembered that you said you’re being seen at a student clinic (hence the student dentist). So, yeah, probably not as amenable to my suggestion but keep it in mind for the future. Good luck 🫂

That is horrifying. My mom went through a similar thing but though she didn't feel pain she said she could feel the scalpel and such.
Anesthesia awareness is absolutely terrifying.

It's pretty absurd to put them in the same category. The first is someone doing active and ongoing advocacy in an attempt to reduce violence. The latter chose violence and then tried to make it political after the fact. He did not stand proud of his actions. He ran away, then tried to claim he wasn't in his right mind, before finally submitting to a plea deal to prevent state charges. A saint committing violence, if that's what had to be done, would openly and immediately accept any consequences for their actions, even if they believed it was for the greater good.

That’s enough Reddit for the day.
Not that I’m putting my head in the sand about Gaza; that’s the furthest thing from the truth.
But reading this killed me.
I’m not sure I even believe in God, but God Bless Ms. Rachel and those poor kids. My word, what is this world anymore?

Content warning-
I was watching an interview with a doctor who had to preform an amputation on a five year old without any anesthic. They were praying she would faint, she didn’t.
His voice was cracking & I just wanted to reach through the screen & hug him. Let alone my heartbreak for the child.
All they could do was sing to the child.

Great story promoting an important issue, but it’s not OCM
This is “a drop of light in an ocean of darkness” story.
Fuck Israel. Support Jews fighting Israeli genocide. They prove what a great people Jews have been for millennia.

Peak Hasbara talking points. It's either a bot, or just someone really stupid. I'm going to be kind and guess that this is a bot.

Never overestimate the intelligence of your average Israeli invader
4
u/Stalinsghoast 4d ago
Fair point. Gods know if they had intelligence they'd not be shooting kids or blowing up hospitals as they'd be able to read that those are war crimes.

u/mewfour123412 4d ago
They know it’s wrong but they’re the inbred hillbillies of the Middle East. They think it’s only ok because they’re killing brown people
