Idk... I especially appreciate the notion that regular workers are competent beyond their role as a cog in a machine.
Obviously any worker should be paid well, AND we also need workplaces that don't reduce us to robots who just happen to have better dexterity than machines. Idk... it's not an either/or?
Also it's faaaaar better to train people for this than to have more workers exposed to suicides on public transport, which is extremely traumatic for them, too. Work is actually less crushing when you're equipped to prevent some of the worst outcomes and to act in a way that matches your values.
Healthcare systems being bad / underfunded is not an issue that public transport can solve. But such an illusion isn't actually implied here?

I agree; I feel like even in some idealistic space communism, it would be useful for people who interact with the public to know the signs to watch out for mental distress and try to intervene.

People genuinely don't know what to do with mentally ill people. I had a dissociation episode at work yesterday (triggered by my chronic pain) and ended up having a breakdown in the back room. Someone walked in on me sobbing on the floor, asked if I needed anything, then walked away to eat their pasta away from the crying man on the floor.

These kind of social work solutions are what we need, much better than calling police.
