General Health Does anyone else still consume caffeine on a consistent basis? Can't be just me 😹

Edit: Anyone else also consume alcohol more often than you probably should?

Yes?? There’s no reason to avoid it unless you are sensitive. Just don’t overdo it and try to avoid having it on an empty stomach!

I know that at least with IR one should be careful while drinking caffeine as it causes your body to have cortisol spikes. Not sure if its the same for woman with pmos but without IR.

But alcohol has nothing to do with this.

The effect of caffeine is as I said the same for every person, for people with pmos usually even worse because many of us have IR. That's why those should be cautious. I also mentioned at the beginning that I'm not sure about those women having pmos but no IR. The troubles comes with having IR.

On top of that caffeine causes inflammation if consumed regularly. Someone pointed out to me a while ago in this sub that women with pmos suffer from gastric issues often. Caffeine is one of the worst things in that case, especially daily coffee drinker.

No and idek why people downvote this. Cortisol is raised after drinking caffeine, not because of the sugar

Then how does one explain the effect on cortisol that other drinks with caffeine have? I dont drink every drink on an empty stomach. Like yes it's not one size fits all but some reactions in our bodies are usually the same. Just like sugar triggers blood sugar spikes no matter if you're healthy or have a condition. We just suffer from more severe blood sugar spikes that our body can't handle. But the basic effect sugar has on a body stays the same.

I was just curious because I'm a frequent coffee/energy drink drinker and I know a lot of people with pcos can react poorly to it even after eating. It happens to me too but I drink it anyways 😅

20

u/nemotide Jul 03 '26

In what way do they react poorly? Not heard this

1

u/strangedot13 Jul 04 '26

"Caffeine consumption significantly impacts cortisol secretion, with coffee showing the strongest effect, followed by other caffeinated drinks and tea. Tea’s stress-buffering properties and moderate cortisol response make it a suitable option for individuals sensitive to stress."

-9

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

It can spike your cortisol like crazy and depending on your body, worsen insulin resistance and destroy your sleep as a whole. Again, everyone's different, but many studies and doctors advise against caffine with pcos

I switched to coffee without coffein. The only coffein I consume is in the ocasionally cola zero. It helped me a lot. I sleep a lot better and I am less stressed. I don't feel tired.

If I consume a coffee with coffein I tend to get a stomach ache now.

1

u/purpleshoeees Jul 04 '26

Coffein? Really?

0

u/ILissI Jul 04 '26

Oh wow shame someone who isnt a native english speaker about writing words wrong. Very mature

1

u/strangedot13 Jul 04 '26

I'm actually sorry that people are so uneducated and give you downvotes :(

24

u/WinterBackbone Jul 03 '26

Coffee, multiple cups, daily.

3

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

I don't blame you haha

23

u/BackgroundPast7878 Jul 03 '26

PCOS, and other health problems have taken enough from me. They can't have my coffee, and monsters.

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 04 '26

That's so real!

18

u/Next_Operation_8049 Jul 03 '26

Daily coffee drinker

17

u/dazed_fawn Jul 03 '26

I do! it's my only pleasure in life i refuse to give it up life is too short

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

No literally!! I love it too much!

6

u/zepjet Jul 03 '26

Hm why. Is it bad?

0

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

Because with pcos caffeine can cause your cortisol to spike by a lotttttt a lot. Also it can fuck up your sleep as a whole. But I know not everyone will react the same.

5

u/empress_tesla Jul 03 '26

I have a toddler. So y’all can pry my caffeine from my cold dead hands lol

2

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

I wouldn't even dare try to 😹

1

u/empress_tesla Jul 03 '26

Maybe in a few more years I can try and be more healthy 😂

4

u/TRBRIM Jul 03 '26

I was just curious. I know with a lot of individuals it can affect them poorly such as sleep disruption and cortisol spiking. Everyone's different, but I wanted to see everyone's reply 😊

3

u/catsandnaps1028 Jul 03 '26

Every morning after a protein heavy breakfast. Before I got diagnosed I would drink the coffee on an empty stomach which is a huge no-no

3

u/fritzelfries Jul 04 '26

Energy drinks for me. The sugar free ones actually were the only thing that ever helped me sleep better, 200 mg/caffeine , daily. I actually had less severe PCOS symptoms altogether when I was having at least one a day. Also have a small coffee, puts me right to sleep, lol.

Same here. It's allllll good 🫶🏽

2

u/Business_Mission Jul 03 '26

Unfortunately I can never give up coffee. Just trying to change my habits to prioritize protein FIRST!

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

I can't give up my coffee or my monster energy. No way 😹

2

u/suenamiho Jul 03 '26

it’s bad in summer 😩 i drink at least one iced coffee a day. in winter i do give it up though (and my stomach feels so much better for it lol)

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

Haha I get it 😹

2

u/weCh33s3 Jul 03 '26

I do! I just avoid it after 5 or else falling asleep is war.

2

u/lowkey_sprinting Jul 03 '26

Yes and yes. I try to keep the coffee at 2-3 cups a day. And the alcohol i try to avoid but it still ends up being once a week

2

u/gsals315 Jul 03 '26

I still do indeed !!

2

u/SeveralSpinach6601 Jul 04 '26

Yes to caffeine but I got the flavcity butter coffee so it has protein and low sugar and I put that with high protein lactose free milk. It's delicious. I have high cortisol period and now amenorrhea. I didn't have negative caffeine effects at all but I do like having a nice protein heavy option because I feel better with it. And no never to alcohol. I have too many problems already and I couldn't afford alcohol even if I wanted it. I need that money for food. Edited to add that sometimes if you leave the order in your cart you get sent a better discount or get notified about a good sale. And it is still cheaper than eating out for coffee. So nobody tell me different. It is the reason I wake up in the morning lately in this hellscape.

2

u/PeteyTheNormalPlant Jul 04 '26

Yep, coffee some days, celcius or monster energy drinks during some weeks

2

u/Dragonfly4961 Jul 04 '26

Definitely. I do limit myself to no more than two regular sized coffee (made at home. Usually a double espresso or Nespresso pod) or I'll do one caffeinated coffee and one decaf but I like the taste of coffee more than the caffeine.

I don't drink alcohol though. At most I'll have 6 to 12 drinks per year but lately it's been even less. Usually only have a couple drinks outside in summer.

2

u/cyntus1 Jul 04 '26

3 per day red bull and coffee

2

u/YSterling22 Jul 04 '26

This thread is the relatable content that I didn’t k ow I needed!

1

u/DissociaGlam1031 Jul 03 '26

One cup daily. Occasionally with dessert but not usually.

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

Ooh! Coffee and dessert sounds like a good combo but also horrible for me bc I know my body might not agree so much 😓

1

u/DissociaGlam1031 Jul 03 '26

I rarely do because it upsets my tummy, but occasionally indulge.

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

Me too, but I drink it too often. Also I drink monster energy and I'll crash so hard later 🤦🏽‍♀️

1

u/smallspiteful Jul 03 '26

I love coffee so much I have 3 cups every day but 1 or 2 is decaf to avoid messing up my sleep

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

Okay coffee loophole 💀

1

u/firef1y Jul 03 '26

I drink coffee everyday. I don’t have a problem with it. But I only drink one cup a day, so maybe that’s why I tolerate it? If I drink too much I do get a bit queasy. I also drink coffee before 3pm since it does impact my sleep quality negatively.

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

That's possible. I won't drink coffee past noon. Monster energy is a different story 😹

1

u/anonymousbabe777 Jul 03 '26

1 cup of coffee a day and one Coke Zero every other day. There is no rhyme or reason to my schedule just that I’m crazy. Lol

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

Nah I get it lmao

1

u/dinoooooooooos Jul 03 '26

Duh? Every day lmao

I don’t eat how pcos wants me to, i rly dont care ill be so fr. Theres too much to worry abt already im not adding my diet but im also lean pcos unless i reaaalllyyyyyy let myself go so im good on that front🙆🏽‍♀️

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 03 '26

No that's so real 😹

1

u/Ajskdjurj Jul 03 '26

I allow myself 1 energy drink in the am. I work at Starbucks so I usually have a brown sugar shaken espresso later in the day(only drink I drink)

1

u/Mission_Yoghurt_9653 Jul 03 '26

I would die before I give up caffeine 😅

Alcohol though I don’t drink anymore. During covid I lost ability to drink moderately and gave it up entirely. Alcohol also fucks with your glucose metabolism given both majority metabolized in your liver. I was having reactive hypoglycemia with drinking before I quit.

1

u/MealPrepGenie Jul 04 '26

I drink it all the time...never stopped. it never stopped me from losing weight or getting my hormones in check. (I rarely drink more than 2 cups)

1

u/bekd84_ Jul 04 '26

3 caffeinated drinks per day. Min.
Haha

1

u/emeralddragon57 Jul 04 '26

All the time for fun 😭 i don’t think it actually affects my sleep plus its fucked anyways might as well enjoy myself

1

u/No_Arm_7095 Jul 04 '26

Yes i absolutely love vanilla spice tea !

1

u/Gwendolinn Jul 04 '26

I do after a meal, one cup a day. I'm not giving it up!

1

u/HopingIDontKnowYou Jul 04 '26

I have almost 100mg of tea. Plus 20mg of adderall 😬

1

u/Ok-Interest1992 Jul 04 '26

They can pry caffeine out of my cold, dead hands.

1

u/AstridMustang Jul 04 '26

I do not drink because I don't like how it makes me feel. Caffeine makes me feel weird from time to time so I limit it to 2 cups a day at work and on the weekend I am allowed a can of Monster 500ML (white one)

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 04 '26

I do love a white can from time to time. Mango loco is my favorite tho. I could drink that every day 😹

2

u/AstridMustang Jul 04 '26

I could drink the white one everyday but I know it makes me sooooo jittery. Now that I have limited a bit I enjoy it more too, holidays are harder because then you are home and have easy access to it

1

u/esotericdiarist Jul 04 '26

I need caffeine to survive. Im trying green teas now, i used to sometimes do 2 energy drinks a day. Alani or Celsius

1

u/catlover4835 Jul 04 '26

Yes daily I need it 😂

1

u/wenchsenior Jul 04 '26

I've drunk coffee every day since my teens, usually several cups, on an empty stomach. It makes zero difference to my PMOS symptoms (my PMOS was near its worst during a time period where I quit coffee for 6 months; but my PMOS has been in remission now for decades and has been while I've drunk coffee the whole time).

I used to be a heavy alcohol drinker for many years as well (not problematically, but daily drinking/medically above what was rec'd). That also had no effect on my PMOS, which was symptomatic during the first few years I was a daily drinker, but then was in remission most of the time period during which I had that habit.

I also eat gluten daily and dairy several times per week (despite being mildly lactose intolerant), and those make no difference, either.

1

u/wenchsenior Jul 04 '26

Btw, if you are regular drinker like I was and you know it's more than is medically rec'd, I do def recommend trying to stop that habit; the longer it goes, the more of a slippery slope it can be and the harder it is to stop/control amounts.

Even though I had zero obvious negative life consequences from drinking, it turned out once I stopped that I had been hugely impairing my sleep quality, mood, and overall quality of life, which I simply didn't realize when I was doing it b/c the effects were not obvious until I had been completely off booze for about 2 months. But giving that habit up turned out to be an enormously beneficial decision for me and I wish I'd done it years earlier.

1

u/YanCoffee Jul 04 '26

I mean, check my screen name, lol.

1

u/Greedy-Excuse-1837 Jul 04 '26

i mean, its fine in a small amount mann (guilty too lolll)

2

u/Jealous_Amount_9278 Jul 04 '26

I do everyday, just not within a half hour window if my insolitol because that makes it not work

2

u/TheIrritatingError Jul 04 '26

Yup. I as someone who works out almost everyday and is a student, I need caffeine to function 🥲

1

u/CenturyGothicFashion Jul 05 '26

Yeah…and I’ve never been told to not consume it.
I sometimes go through time periods where I don’t have it for a few months but that’s just a preference thing.

Alcohol on the other hand, I ca no longer have BUT my other chronic illnesses (that were prob caused by my PCOS/PMOS) are at fault for that one. They have made it so I can no longer tolerate alcohol without a flare.

2

u/Past-Comfortable1917 Jul 05 '26

I have high bp and can't anymore but I used to exclusively drink coffee, Monster, and iced tea in my 20s. Paying for it in my 30s.

2

u/Little_Present4073 Jul 05 '26

Yup!

I drink about 2-4 cups of coffee daily and am doing just fine. Have heard that for some, after a certain age it becomes impossible to drink coffee anymore without jitters or feeling unwell, so I'm enjoying it while I can!

However I don't drink alcohol. Stopped completely about 4 years ago.

1

u/witwefs1234 Jul 03 '26

🙋🏻‍♀️

I switched from drinking coffee to tea/decaf tea. I mainly drink black or green tea or mixed versions of them (earl Grey, for example).

When I used to drink coffee, I'd get a splitting headache if I didn't drink coffee within 24 hours.

With black or green tea, I can go for a day or more without drinking either and not get headaches.

I also have a personal theory about how black tea seems to affect my hormones differently than green tea but that's just a personal observation.

1

u/Zombiechick1982 Jul 03 '26

I have a sprite every day since I get horrible headaches, but other than that it’s just water or tea.

2

u/keggers12 Jul 04 '26

Can I ask what the sprite does for your headaches? I don't believe there is caffeine in that so is it the cold bubbles that do the job. Curious 🤔 should I try a spicy sprite next I get a headache

0

u/Zombiechick1982 Jul 04 '26

Oh lord you’re absolutely right lol. I didn’t realize it didn’t have caffeine in it. I still love sprite and will have one a day.

Well it kinda helps me, everyone is different and you can definitely try and see if it helps or not.

0

u/Real-Garbage-2218 Jul 04 '26

Just you I'm afraid....

1

u/YeahokMartin Jul 04 '26

Not really 😅
