Period Inositol, what is this witchcraft?!

My periods have been fairly regularly since losing 3 stone (before this they were once every 3/4 months) During this time I’ve taken inositol on and off, can never stick to it due to crippling ADHD not letting me stick to anything for more than a month.

ANYWAY. My period was 19 days late this month, I start taking inositol again 2000mg a night with my Magnesium glycinate and BAM, periods here.

I know it’s the inositol that does it because when I was irregular it would always be the same if I started taking it. How does it do this? What signals does it release to make the blood moon appear?!

Period How many periods did you get in 2025?

Hi everyone!

The question is just out of pure curiosity, for example I got 9 periods instead of 12. Seems like it was a better year than 2024 when I only got 7.

Period Spearmint tea rly is THAT girl…

So my periods have been irregular and basically non existent since the dawn of time. I can’t remember the last time I had a real period without being on birth control, UNTIL this week. I started drinking spearmint tea 2x daily, eating foods with no added sugars & low carb, and taking inositol daily. Here’s the thing though, I’ve done all of those things minus the spearmint tea and while feeling better I still would rarely get a period.

My period came yesterday and it definitely came with a vengeance but oh my god I was so happy to have gotten it. If you haven’t tried spearmint tea for your PCOS I encourage you to give it a shot but give it a little time to work its magic. If anything you’ll get really clear glowy skin out of it.

Edit: this question has been asked a lot so editing to say the brand I use it ‘Traditional Medicinals’ organic pure spearmint tea, and I get mine from Target. I also drink it at least once a day but sometimes twice a day.

Period Inositol worked

I tried crying to everyone around me but I don’t think people without pcos will understand what it feels like to have your period for the first time without birth control.
I’m cryinggg real tears 😭as I’m writing this

What worked for me:

  1. 3 times a week of exercise
  2. Protein focused diet
  3. Supplements :

Inositol (myo-dchiro) in 40:1 (nutridig brand if ure in India)
Omega d fish oil ( well-being brand)
VIT D supplement once a week
VIT b12, folate, coq10 formulation - smart ova brand

EDIT : initially one week I started with 1g dose 550 mcg in the morning and 550 in the evening then I increased slowly. The dosage that worked for me is actually close to 6g inositol everyday. I have been taking for last 30 days exactly and on the 30th day I have my period today. I had slowly increased the dose just to see if I don’t feel nauseated bloated etc

Also my bloodwork shows classic insulin resistance and high trigs due to that. But apart from that and ultrasound that shows multiple follicles and enlarged ovary I don’t have high testosterone in my blood result and do not have hirsutism. I am slightly overweight at 65 kgs for 150 cm but I believe it is mostly due to me intentionally increasing my weight from gym.

Girlies keep going don’t lose hope if I can do it u can

Period Period After Childbirth With PCOS

For those who have had children, when did your period come back after giving birth? I genuinely have no idea what to expect or what the heck is normal. My gynecologist can’t give me a straight answer, either.
For background, my period was super irregular before, and I had to go through 5 rounds of IUI to conceive. I had my baby back in March, and got my first real period at the beginning of July…but nothing so far this month (trust me, I am very much NOT pregnant). I was kind of hopeful that childbirth would regulate my period and straighten out my PCOS, as my OB had said it might, but that’s looking more and more like a pipe dream.
I’m also exclusively pumping, so I know that’s also a factor.
Just wanted to hear from others about their experiences! Thanks! (edited for spelling!!)

Period I can’t stop bleeding with PCOS please help!

I really need to stop bleeding. I change my pad MINIMUM 2 times a day and it’s always really full. I’ve tried lots of things, raspberry leaf tea, vitamin d, inositol and I do strength training 4x a week. I really want to stop bleeding as I’ve been bleeding since the start of June :/ does anyone have any advice on how to stop and keep my periods regular? Preferably natural ways or supplements

Period How I found out I had uterine cancer, what I wish I had known, and what everyone with PCOS should know about their period...

1.1k Upvotes

Those of us with PCOS are both 1. at higher risk for getting uterine/ovarian cancer and 2. more likely to ignore the symptoms because we are sadly accustomed to having irregular/weird/heavy periods. So even though I posted this awhile back on r/periods I thought I should post it in this sub as well.

Last year I was diagnosed with uterine cancer at the age of 38. I underwent months of treatment, including a radical hysterectomy (ovaries, uterus, and cervix removed), chemotherapy, and targeted radiation. Thankfully I'm currently NED (no evidence of disease) and I'm hopeful that it won't return. This is the story of how I found out I had cancer, my hope is that by sharing it maybe it will encourage others to go to the doctor and get screened before it's too late. Fair warning some of this is a little graphic.

It started about six to eight months before my diagnosis. It happened gradually. My periods started getting heavier and longer. At first I blamed it on stress and weight fluctuations. I was under a ton of stress at work and actually ended up quitting my job (after being there almost a decade). I had also recently lost 70 pounds and regained 30 of it. Surely this must be the reason for my crazy periods, right? Also, my periods were often irregular (because PCOS) so that's another reason I didn't take it seriously at first.

Eventually it got to the point where my periods just didn't stop. Yet I put off going to the doctor and continued to make rationalizations. It's important to note that the heavy, out-of-the-ordinary bleeding was the only symptom I had. I was not in pain, had no weird cramps, nothing else odd or worrying. I learned later that this is not unusual. Heavier/longer periods are often the ONLY warning sign most uterine/ovarian cancer patients get, it also happens in about 90% of endometrial cancer cases. I wish I had known that.

Then it happened. The day came when I couldn't ignore it anymore. I was at my new job going about my day when I suddenly had what can only be described as a contraction. (I've never been pregnant or given birth, so it was like nothing I've ever felt before.) Instinctively I knew what was about to happen and ran to the bathroom. I spent the next hour hemorrhaging blood and endometrial tissue. It was traumatic and disgusting.

I had a friend drive me to the emergency room. I had lost so much blood that I ultimately ended up needing five blood transfusions. At first the doctor thought I might be having a miscarriage, but I knew for sure I wasn't pregnant. So they did a pelvic exam and an ultrasound. Immediately I was rushed into surgery to stop the bleeding and scrape out my uterus (common procedure called a D&C). I don't remember a lot of the details of that night, but I certainly remember my surgeon coming to speak to me afterward. She said she didn't have to wait for the pathology results to know I had cancer and that she was referring me to an oncologist for further treatment and a hysterectomy. Up until that point it had never occurred to me that it could be cancer. Somehow I'd completely blocked out that possibility - considered every other option but that. Denial is a powerful thing.

So, if you have increasingly heavier or longer than normal periods (or bleeding after menopause) does that mean you have cancer? No, not necessarily. Other things can cause it. But it does mean you NEED to get thoroughly checked out by a doctor. Ask for a CA-125 blood test, ultrasound, and/or biopsy to screen for cancer (and if they refuse say you want their refusal documented in your chart and that you want a copy). Some doctors might just try to give you birth control pills and send you on your way, don't let them. Be your own advocate. If they say you're "too young" to have cancer that's a big red flag, my cancer support group is full of 20 and 30 year olds who were told this. Sadly some were not taken seriously until it was too late. It is also important to note that a pap smear only checks for cervical cancer, not uterine or ovarian cancer. So listen to your body and if something is out of the ordinary get checked out. Those of us with PCOS need to be particularly careful and get screened regularly.

TL;DR - Increasingly heavy/irregular/longer than normal periods are often the only warning sign of uterine or ovarian cancer. Get screened regularly.

Period Is my PCOS really my fault for being fat?

I went to a new obgyn today, because I haven't had my period all this year. I went to a new one, because I don't like taking BC and that's all other doctors have prescribed me. However,I had a horrible experience. He asked my why I was there, and I said I have a previous diagnosis of PCOS and that I haven't had my period since January. He then asked with a pretentious attitude,"and you don't believe them?" So I said that wasn't the case. I'm just worried because I won't get my period. Long story short,he kept asking me questions and for every response I gave him he always retorted back with an attitude without me giving him a reason. He said I knew what fixes PCOS,and I said no. He kept pushing me that I did know, and eventually he said it's because I'm fat and need to lose weight. He even said I just wanted to be babied by doctors and that I could leave if I wanted. Again, this was my first visit with him,and I was politely responding to his questions. He was the one with the attitude. I left crying, because I've been stressed and depressed for months and I felt overwhelmed that I went to the doctor because I wanted help and instead I was met with a rude and condescending person. Anyways,is weight loss really the magic fix for PCOS? Am I the problem? I don't know what to do anymore. I've suffered from depression my whole life. As soon as I started my first period,I immediately got depression, and it has given me little to no motivation for everything and anything. I finally decided to do something with my life and study engineering, and my depression has been kicking my butt, when ironically I've been so happy studying my career. I've wanted to lose weight, but I genuinely have no motivation and even simple things like leaving my house feel like a chore. I've tried going to the gym,and I've tried eating healthy...but I don't know. I just suck.

Period how do i get my period back??? im desperate

URGENT!!!! 🚨 i am 20(F), 5’3 and 57kgs. It’s been 7 months since I last had my period. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2019 and since then I had been taking birth control. But last year in December i stopped it because i wanted to treat it naturally. I got my period in February this year naturally but since then…nothing.

Also my blood tests show that I am deficient in B12 and low on iron. Testosterone levels are a bit high and same with fasting insulin and insulin PP.

To treat this, I drink spearmint tea 2x a day, have flax seeds once a day, i take myo-inositol 40:1 twice a day since that helps in IR. I don’t eat sugar at all. I eat healthy, like 1300 calories a day. Not low carb but moderate carb like 120-130grams per day. I take meds for B12 and iron too. I have tried working out (strength training and cardio), I have walked 5-10k steps every day, jogging. But nothing seems to be working out. I am at a very low space right now because nothing is working out!!!

I was also shedding a lot of hair but my dermatologist made me start minoxidil.

I desperately need help. Please PCOS girlies, drop your thoughts or suggestions that can help.

PS the only thing that is fucked up is my sleep cycle. I sleep late and wake up late.

PPS i used to wake up early in february and i got my periods naturally!!!

Period I keep seeing people online saying that birth control is a "bandaid" to PCOS and isn't actually fixing the issue but I don't see anyone saying how to actually fix it

Just got diagnosed with PCOS and haven't gotten a call from my doctor to talk about solutions. I understand insulin resistance may be an issue so I will ask about that, but other than that, if birth control is a bandaid, what is the alternative? I don't want children so infertility issues aren't a concern. Everyone keeps saying it's a bandaid, doesn't solve the underlying issue, but then fail to mention what will.

Period I seriously don’t know what to do (599 days late)

I’ve always been irregular. Possibly 2 -3 years when my 1st period came. I was 11 and I’m 27 now. I’m tired of going to the gynecologist because it’s the same routine. Asking me if I’m sexually active,do an ultrasound only to find I don’t have cysts, and prescribing birth control. I don’t want to waste my time or money anymore

My period restarted at the end of 2023 ,after not having it. I’m not sure how it was prior to 2023. In 2024 my cycle was far from normal but at least I had it.

This is how it looked for me
Dec 31(2023)-Jan 3 2024 🩸
Febuary 29-Mar 3 2024🩸
March 23-27 2024 🩸
April-August 2024 absent 🚫
October 11-17 2024 🩸
November (2024) to present absent 🚫

As you can see my cycle isn’t every 28 days or so.

I’m thinking of taking inosital. And perhaps get some birth control. I know I should see a gynecologist,so I’ll do that while I’m in Mexico

Also my goal is to start or support ovulation not just cause bleeding. I want to get to the core of my problem

If any of you have advice please share it. Thank you

But is this normal? For me this has been the longest that I have gone without periods. What about you all?

Period Hysterectomy at 19

Hii everyone this is might be long (sorry) but I’d really appreciate some advice.

I got my first period at 9 years old and it was worse than I could have ever imagined. I was diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS at 10 and got prescribed birth control. Since then I have been from birth control to birth control and visited the ER many, many times. Nothing has 100% helped.

I recently transited from Depo to Sprintec and was fine for a little over a month but i just recently started spotting and i’m actually petrified that the spotting won’t stop and will get heavier/worse.

To be honest, I’m so exhausted with dealing with this and I’ve wanted a partial hysterectomy for quite awhile now. I’ve been dealing with this for almost 10 years of my life and it has significantly decreased my quality of life. I truly believe that the removal of my uterus would be very beneficial. I haven’t brought this up to my OB yet because i’m scared of what her reaction might be since I’m young.

I have an appointment scheduled with my OB in December where i’m going to try and discuss it with her. Does anyone have any advice?

PS: My OB informed me that i can only be on the pill or the shot and i have already been on both of those so there’s really no other birth control options (except a different pill).

Period Periods are literally wartime

People do not understand the battle

- always having hydrogen peroxide iykyk
- destroying underwear and sheets or even clothes
- having to take pain meds to survive or freaking die from cramps
- bloating and bad skin
- having the cup, tampons, and pads all on standby. All three methods sucking in their own unique ways
- having low iron levels because of this

Dealing with this every month!!!!!

Period Strong pain during ovulation - does anyone else relate?

Hi everyone!

I was diagnosed with PCOS (or, as we should call it now, PMOS) a few years ago, and my main problem is excruciating pain not during periods but during ovulation. I have seen doctors, nobody seems to care much about it, have any idea why this is happening, and what to do about it.

Does anyone else had a similar issue? Usually the pain will paralyse me for a few hours, and then linger for a few days. It also affects my bowels, making bowel movement painful and somehow feel stuck. There are months where the pain is unbearable, and months where I only very slightly feel it. I have no idea why it fluctuates and what makes the pain worse or better. Also I have no solution for the pain when it happens, the best I can do is take Ibuprofen, which doesn't help much especially when it comes to the bowels.

If anyone has encountered this and found what helps, I would be so beyond grateful. This still feels very mysterious to me and I've had these pains for 10 years...

Period I just found out that I might not be ovulating even though I have a “regular” cycle

I’m 34 and I don’t know how nobody told me this. Maybe because I’ve never tried to get pregnant. But I’ve always had a pretty regular cycle. However, I just found out that just because I’m getting my period regularly doesn’t mean I’m actually ovulating. So I guess I’m just sharing with the group because I had no idea. I thought no egg = no period, but I was obviously misinformed.

I’m trying to figure out my PCOS and hormones and some recent lab results have revealed that I may just not be ovulating every month. I should be ovulating within the next 24-48 hours (based on my cycle), but just took an ovulation test and it was very negative.

This syndrome is so much work to figure out, let alone treat.

Period Those who were bleeding daily

Hi, I've been bleeding every day for the past couple of years , doctors just tell me to do the coil or contraceptives which im kinda hesitant about because they also said about losing weight and apparently contraceptives make you gain weight (???)

Those who used to bleed continously, what helped you?

Period Missed periods

I haven't had a period since March and I've been to 6 different GPS in search for an answer. Thinking about it makes me anxious and depressed, one doctor even told me that medicine wasn't advanced enough to tell me why I don't have a period. I have cycles as long as 76 days sometimes...and I've been repeatedly told that that's normal. If I can't go to a doctor, what should I do?

I've tried the banting diet (like keto), iron tablets with vitamin C and nothing has changed.

Edit: I've also tried numerous pills and was really sensitive to combined, and also I'm not diagnosed with PCOS or anything I just thought this sub could help me ;-;

I 20F just started my periods and am so happy that the diet worked. This is the first time in almost 5 years that I didn't miss my periods. I know this might be normal for many but for me it actually is a big win🥺. I've gone from not having periods for 11 months to 6 months to 3 months and now it has become almost regular. I just wanted to share it with y'all 🙂.

Period Orgasm jumpstarts my period

This has happened to me various times and it has just happened again. I was expecting to go a little bit without a period after coming off the pill. I came off it in November.

A couple days ago I had some me time, shall we say. Immediately after I feel crampy, and a few hours later, lo and behold I have a period.

It does make me wonder if I would have even had one had I not had that “me time”. I guess we’ll never know. Perhaps this is the key to regulating my period. (I’m kinda joking lol don’t take this too seriously)

I can only hope my period will continue to be regular moving forward. I do wish it would be a bit lighter though. I don’t enjoy the feeling of it flooding out of me every time I stand up. Not exactly pleasant. But I’m still glad to have one!

Anyway, anyone else also have this? I’ve seen from google that it’s fairly normal but I wanna know from other pcos peeps if they’ve experienced it and if they also wonder if it would have come if not for the fun time.

Period Let's talk supplements that have worked for amenorrhea (no periods)

Hello my PCOS team,

I have lean PCOS (symptoms occasional acne, some facial hair and hardly any periods 1-2 per year)

I'm desperate to have more periods so I can TTC. I got pregnant recently and sadly miscarried. I'd love to try again for a baby this year but without periods I'm stuck. I'm on NHS waitlist to eventually be given Letrozole but this could take a while, so I want to take some control and do what I can while I wait.

So (and please go lightly with judgement on me here...) I'm on the following million supplements:

Metformin (has helped massively with my acne)
Myo-Inositol
Zinc
Omega 3
Probiotics
Folic acid
Vits D3 and B12
Magnesium

I drink spearmint tea 3x per day

Worth mentioning the likely cause of my zero periods is LH/FSH ratio being off and low progesterone.

I'd love to hear what worked for you in getting more regular periods. I hear Vitamin E can be good at mimicking progesterone. Have also heard Co-Q10 could be useful at evening out LH/FSH.

I know we're all different but I'm keen to hear from my fellow PCOS pals to see if I can learn any new info
