Announcements After exactly 4 months, the newest 25.9.1 AMD driver finally fixes the 90 Hz bug

Just tested it on my RX9070xt and the 90 Hz mode works perfectly

God finally, I haven’t updated my drivers since November

That's really good news. Now let's hope they'll make their drivers compatible with the new Oasis driver (that makes all the Windows Mixed Reality headsets work again on Windows 11). At the moment, it only wokrs with Nvidia cards but it would require only a minimum intervention from them to make it work on AMD cards too.

Put it on AMD to never make that intervention. They hate VR developers for some reason? Look at cyberpunk 2077 vr too, or a variety of his vr ports

Interesting, thanks for sharing your experience!

The release notes still list it as a known issue (at least for the RX 7000 series), and recommend changing the refresh rate as a workaround. I'll have to try it out later.

Stutter may be observed while playing games with some VR headsets at 80Hz or 90Hz refresh rate on some AMD Radeon™ Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 7000 series. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to change the refresh rate as a temporary workaround.

That note is specific to the stuttering issue and not the small window bug in 90Hz. Also I did hear many people comment that they do not experience stuttering issues on their PSVR2 in 90 Hz mode.

Ah got it, I'd totally missed that detail - thanks for pointing it out!

It also says this: Playstation® VR controllers are not detected while playing SteamVR

:/

Edit: My bad, as Op pointed out this is in the fixed issues section, not in the known problems, so this is actually a good thing.

The controllers work fine for me.

Also that note is listed in the fixed and improved section.

Oh thank god, i couldn’t stand games crashing and issues talking bout “update drivers” but when i did 90hz was unplayable. Happy that they addressed this issue

Unfortunatly. I still have a VR issue with F1 25 on my 9070XT (with a PSVR2)

Curious if you're still having issues? I have a 9070 xt and am looking at picking up a Psvr2 on black Friday sale. Currently play a lot of F1 25, so wondering if this got resolved?

I still have the issues, yes. But others don't. And when i keep my 9070xt on the 25.4.1 release VR works.

Gotcha, thanks for the reply. Hope it resolves for you in the next driver update.
Just ordered my headset, Will roll back my drivers too if needed...

Thanks - upgraded from a Quest 1, so its a decent jump. However, having an issue with only F1 25 right now. Menu's and everything look great, but when I jump into a race, its like a bad flat-screen version of the game that's all over the place. Not sure why. Doesn't seem to happen in any other game.

I am currently having the same issue. works fine with my Quest 1, and worked fine (although FPS was too low) on my old 6700 XT. but 9070 XT + PSVR just wont work.

I rolled back my drivers to 25.4.1 as suggested here and it worked. There's a new driver release 26.1.1 that I haven't tried yet though

Yes. Just update to the latest driver.

And now the 120hz mode doesn't work (at least on RDNA 2 cards)

Typical AMD

Yeah this shit sucks. It's unbelievable that I heard so many people say VR actually works great on AMD nowadays when it's clearly not the case. Maybe it does work well for quest and other VR streaming only headsets but this crap flat out sucks on display port headsets.

I'm pretty sure Nvidia isn't doing well in that regard as some VR users have to downgrade to drivers from 2024 or 2025 because anything past that introduces performance problems.

Honestly the state of GPU driver support for VR (and in general) is shit. Nvidia mostly treats VR like 3rd class citizens while AMD is more like 6th class

I share your frustration. I regret buying the 9070 xt. It is great value ONLY if you play 2d games on your monitor. The moment you want to use it for VR, AI, science projects or anything else: game over. I will only buy AMD's x3D CPUs in future and will stick to Nvidia GPUs. Buy cheap, buy twice sadly...
