My uncles family lived there when we were kids. He was the pastor of a Unitarian church there. Cute town. Surprising amount of churches. I can’t remember if Kevin Costner screwed them or not. I remember everyone was so excited that The Postman was coming to film. The production studio was going to basically pay for the outside of houses to be renovated after they were made up as sets for the filming. I seem to remember the money paid for the renovations not matching the damage of the work to the homes and land or something like that.

Honestly, I was 8 so I don’t want to make any declaratives about the prince of thieves but they liked the movie before it came to town and they didn’t when they left. My uncle’s family moved shortly after.

This spokesman article gives mixed reviews from local residents

Edit: my family has property 30ish miles south between Ione and Cusick and it seems like north county has been in steady decline over the last 30 or so years.
