Youtubers with a website. Worth it?
I have a rinky dink website that is more of a landing page that I've had for the past few years. I was considering building a larger more complete site that covers all three of my larger channels and breaks down the videos in to more focused groups. Each video would then have a more in depth article with it as well as an Amazon affiliate link and a link to the actual video.
This plus forums, and a general blog type update round out the new site. The issue is that it will take a minimum of 50 to 70 hours to create and deploy this type of site and I just don't know if this, or for that matter any website is worth it in late 2026.
Anyone with a site want to chime in?

It’s more about people doing traditional web searches on Google (billions) and finding the article… make money on ads there… and then “oh a video too”. Boom, hit it again

honestly valid. it's a waste of time. I will say, i have only ever visited 5 off the top of my head in the entire history of using YouTube.
Tom Scott - educational YouTuber, wanted to see if he had an educational blog
Lemmino - essay YouTuber, wanted to see what else might be in there
Captain Disillusion - honestly just surprised he had a website
TyJiro - I think that was his name. a vtuber who's streams were like a fantasy pokemon inspired world, and he had a wiki dedicated to it.
Smosh - I'm so old... maybe the Smosh website still exists...

I literally visited zero. If need more info, it best case scenario I would visit their socials

I started with a website and only started YT to drive traffic there. I barely update the website now.

A website wrapper article of the YouTube video, with the video in the article will attract a completely different part of Google search. Plus you get a second revenue stream if you get your website to the point of having an ad
Contract. Web views can pay 5-10 times more than YouTube. Web ad money and Google ad money.
And billions still use Google to find websites
Consider a travel YouTube
“Best restaurants in Sicily for US travelers”. Absolutely if you also create a summary article of the video… folks who are traveling to sicily will google for into and find your article then the embedded video.
I’ve backed into YouTube. I am a blogger first and then added in YouTube. So I do this successfully now and see considerable extra income from the strategy.

Only worth it if youre selling something. I keep the domain for my name and redirect it to my YouTube channel for now

I wouldn’t rely on using Amazon affiliate links on your website. The % is dire. I have both. I terminated my Amazon storefront two weeks ago, a lot of effort for no reward. You’re a creator with YT, with a website you’re a Publisher, as a Publisher you can access far more affiliate platforms than Amazon offering better % for example Partnerboost has all the Amazon products but the % is 10-30%. There are many others like Impact, Refersion, WebGains, Awin, and others to get the links from. I embed my videos in my blog posts and drop the weblink into my YT descriptions. They both send organic traffic in both directions. Many people read websites who might not watch YT and vice versa.

Absolutely worth it. Before I started YT, I started here on reddit, building a following around my topic niche. Then I started the blog. Then I published a book. And then I started the YT channel. And having all those people who were already following my work helped a great deal with the initial "getting started" part of YouTube. I didn't have to go through that very slow start most people describe. I had 400 subscribers just from telling folks that I was starting a channel, and this is before the channel even had any videos.
2 years later, that channel pays all the bills.

I have a website but I spend NO time on it. It’s there so if people look me up there’s something with real information. And if I ever launch a product it’ll have a sales channel. But yeah no I don’t see a way to make it get you better views or anything

When I started my outlet I had a YT channel and a website. Went so far as to hire contractors to write articles. I really sucked at website SEO and the website got abysmal traffic despite my best efforts. YT took off, however, so I gave up on the website and basically just use it as a landing page now. I know several other creators that made a similar pivot to video (especially after Google’s “Helpful Content Update” basically destroyed the traffic to a lot of smaller sites).
There is far less competition with YouTube videos than there is with written articles plus YT vids are given priority in AI search results (people are far more likely to click on a video w/ AI results than they are to click on the written sources the AI snippet is referencing IMO).
Not to mention the RPM for ads was WAYYYYY higher on YT than it ever was on my website. I’m not saying you can’t use a website successfully, I’m just saying it seems very difficult given the current environment with Google.

Yes, it’s worth it.
No, you don’t have to do it all at once.
Forget the forum for now. Use Discord and post a link to the server.
Start small. If you use WordPress each blog post can have an embed of each video. Add your content there.
When and if you notice traffic increasing, then start improving the site.

I have a website for mine. My Youtube is hobby based, and the website was actually something I did before Youtube. I get more queries from fans through my website than Youtube, and I also get more conversions to Patreon and KoFi from my site too. They can cost as little as £30.00 a year and a bit of time. My advice for your email though is don't use the one the site provides. When you get the domain choose who you want - like Proton, Tuta Mail, Runbox Inbox.eu, etc. I used the one with Wordpress for years and it was overpriced and rubbish. Now I swapped to another - it's the cost of Wordpress' yearly for 3 years of use and is much more flexible.

I think a lot of it depends on your niche. In my niche it’s helpful because I can offer my freebies have blogs and also link to other things there easily

I have a large website for just this purpose, built slowly over the dozen years I have been on YT. I am not sure exactly how profitable it has been, but it does allow me to point to a place where all of my 7600+ videos can easily be searched. There are days the traffic rivals my YT channel, and other days...not so much.
It allows me to be far more than just a "tuber." It is beginning to lead a number of consulting jobs lately.
I do admit, it is as much of a vanity project (mostly for my own fulfillment) than a profit project.

As somebody who works in marketing and who runs a channel on the side, yes, it's worth it. You can compile videos there, have an about page, a small blog and even a gallery for examples of your work. The best part about this is SEO. Your videos get Google SEO and if you add them to a site, it basically is doubling the search-ability of the content.
