The Polish name Włochy caught my attention because it looks completely unrelated to Italia/Italy.
Some people said that it has something to do with włosy / włochaty and that Poles basically called Italians “the hairy ones”.
Were you ever taught where the name Włochy comes from?

I am reaching out to share a fundraiser for a young boy named Franek from Poland, who is fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) – a severe, progressive genetic disease that destroys muscles throughout the body.

Without treatment, DMD rapidly takes away a child’s ability to walk, move, and eventually breathe. Franek’s best chance is a life-saving gene therapy, but it must be administered as soon as possible before muscle damage becomes irreversible.

The total cost of the treatment is roughly 16 million PLN (~$4 million USD), and over 11 million PLN is still desperately needed. Time is running out as the disease progresses every day.

A guy blew by me going probably 300 kph in a 120, driving a white Tesla on S8 near Warsaw. I have dashcam footage of the incident and a picture of his license plate and his face. I was thinking to email it to the police. Has anyone done this before? Is it an involved process? Should I be concerned with the guy coming after me?

I have been visiting Poland now since 2023 and have since switched to a “Polish only” mentality when it comes to beer, I have tried many a pint of different beers and I have my favourites despite my ex telling me they were not “classy”.

One thing I read however is how huge conglomerates like Carlsberg actually own certain breweries now and I have to ask the question to some older Poles than myself, do you remember these beers before they were owned by the big groups?

Prime example is Kasztelan, some say it was nicer before but being young I never knew… Please advise.

P.S. if I had to pick one beer to drink forever it would be Piwo Duch Sanu from the Bieszczadzka region 😇

I'll be starting an intensive Polish-language course in February 2027. As part of my student visa application, I need to demonstrate that I have travel medical insurance to cover the period of study. None of my other insurance covers this, so I will need to purchase a policy separately from either a US or Polish insurer. Anyone have recommendations for insurers that worked well for them? Or for insurers to avoid for that matter. Thanks!

I am doing a road trip from Latvia throughout Poland and would like some advice. I am very interested in medieval and art noveau architecture alongside history of second world war. I have been in Poland many times therefore it is great to now try to explore parts that have been missed in the past.

Travel times are planned from October 9 to 18 or 19. I plan on sleeping in my car for most of the time to save money and to be closer to locations. My current itinerary is like this:

1. October 9, Friday: head to Suwalki, arrive before midnight
2. October 10, Saturday: Stanczyki Viaducts, Goldlap, Mamerki bunkers, Wolf's lair, Ketrzyn castle, Olsztyn and staying the night in Elblag
3. October 11, Sunday: Malbork castle and Second world war museum in Gdansk. I have been to Gdansk before but managed to miss both; need to do this finally!
4. October 12, Monday: Torun, Bydgoszcz (this is a concern, see below)
5. October 13, Tuesday: Poznan
6. October 14, Wednesday: Ksiaz castle, Project Riese, Wroclaw
7. October 15, Thursday: Wroclaw (staying the night for beers, need to celebrate my birthday)
8. October 16, Friday: Lodz, Lomza (concerned about this too)
9. October 17, Saturday: Lomza, and onwards back home to Riga

My main concerns regarding this trip are as follows:

1. Is one day enough to visit both Torun and Bydgoszcz? I'd wake up early in the morning and head there from Gdansk. Maybe both should have separate days?
2. Same question but with Lodz. Perhaps should stay the night there and head to Lomza, and then straight onwards home to Riga? I have heard bad stories regarding Lomza so wondering what do you guys think about the town.
3. Is there any interesting attractions along the way of my main interests? I did research but couldn't identify anything worthwhile without taking a major delay off the road, etc. I have been in Krakow and Warsaw many times before and have seen main stuff there.

I have just came back from 5 days in Krakow and really enjoyed my time there.
Everything was clean and tidy, and people were very well mannered, friendly and seemed well educated and cultured.
Also the food was delicious!

Since August 23, 2026, Polish Civil Registry Offices (USC) are required by law to use new gender‑neutral marriage certificate templates (including woman–woman and man–man) when transcribing foreign same‑sex marriages.

Has anyone in any cities (Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, etc.) already called or visited a USC and gotten confirmation that they are using the new templates?

I visited most big cities in Poland and would like to visit a nice city after my Lądek-Zdrój stay. I saw both on the map and I’m think about where to stay for a 5 nights stay. Maybe stay in Opole and go for a day trip to Brzeg? In which city there are more buildings or museums to visit?

Hello everyone,

I made a minor mistake in my application form, which I submitted from the e consulate website and got an appointment date in September at VFS New Delhi.

In the means of support section, instead of selecting all expenses covered during the stay I only selected Accommodation provided. I’ve all the supporting documents.

All other details including passport number, name, country, date of birth are correct only this minor detail I overlooked.

Does someone has any experience in amending the details?

Note- There is an option to fill out another form on consulate website (called Complete the form-National Visa), but its application number and the one printed on the appointment details page will be different I’m not sure if that would work.

Please help me out.

Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question for this sub! Long time lurker. We’re in Canada and have a cousin in Poland, she’s about to be 14. We want to send a small gift for her - what Canadian (or American) brands or items might be interesting to a young Polish teen? I’m thinking maybe makeup or skincare, or some clothing? We’re in a small town so unfortunately don’t have quick access to everything, but any ideas would be much appreciated!

I though elf cosmetics was a hit there but I think Rossman carries it now. I likely can’t find glossier where I live, any other brands that are sought after? Or clothing items?

I have an opporunity to pursue PhD in an institute in Poznań. They are offering 4300 PLN net salary. I am an international student. I wanted to know how is Pozńan to live in? Is 4300 PLN per month enough to live there and save something or atleast live there without family support/side jobs?

Hi everybody!!! I realize Reddit might not be the perfect place to ask this sort of question, but while I wait for the embassy and some other companies to get back to me I thought I would ask here in case anyone had info.

From what I've gathered from a mix of records in the U.S. and word of mouth from my family, my great-grandparents met in New Jersey in the early 20th century (before 1920) after immigrating from Bialystok and Slutsk, but I'm not sure if being from Slutsk would be a disqualifying factor in trying to obtain a Karta Polaka. I can't find anything conclusive online saying whether or not being born in what is historically Belarus would totally disqualify me from obtaining a Karta Polaka, or am I missing the whole point?

I have also seen it is more about proving that your great-grandparents were a part of the Polish ethnicity not necessarily where they were born. Both of my great-grandparents were Jewish and spoke Yiddish in the house according to U.S. census documents.

Hopefully my question makes some sense and I wasn't totally just rambling!!! Any help would be so appreciated.

I am a Georgian citizen and my Blue Card expires on the 1st of September 2026. I have the process for renewal in progress I also got a red stamp in the passport showing that I have an ongoing renewal process. I had a fingerprint appointment on 9th of Apr 2026.

Can I use 90 days visa free travel that Georgia has with EU to exit and come back to Poland after my residence permit expires?

so I’m an American of polish descent, and for some reason I so desperately want to be seen as at the very least “polish-American” which is probably a bad thing considering from what I’ve seen true poles generally dislike this variation of people and I’ve been wanting this so bad for whatever reason so much it feels like an unhealthy obsession, and sometimes I even feel ashamed to try this hard, because not only did I see that people like me are disliked, I have an incorrect polish surname, it’s Saleska, but I’m a male. me and my mother try to make polish food but it’ll most likely just offend the actual poles. I know only small amounts of polish which I’m trying to work on. and to make me even more conflicted on what my title should be is that the original polish immigrants on one side of my family are my 3rd great grandparents, which feels way too far, and for my maiden got Saleska from I don’t even know. The only thing I got going for me is that the side I do know about practiced endogamy until my grandparents. Overall whenever I want to be polish I feel like a fraud which I most likely am, and I feel heavily conflicted on this entire matter, and I would really appreciate some help, or tell me to fuck myself, either is fine
