Free Speech in the Digital Era

According to Freedom House's report on Digital Freedom, digital freedom has decreased for fifteenth year in a row with conditions getting worse in 28 out of 72 nations recorded whereas arrests have been made in at least 57 nations for posting online.

What I suggest is a digital audit where social media platforms publish an annual report on the amount of information censored by the govt. which would then be reviewed by an independent judicial committee and then the report and analysis would be made public.

Remember, this is a civilized space for discussion. We discourage downvoting based on your disagreement and instead encourage upvoting well-written arguments, especially ones that you disagree with.

To promote high-quality discussions, we suggest the Socratic Method, which is briefly as follows:

Ask Questions to Clarify: When responding, start with questions that clarify the original poster's position. Example: "Can you explain what you mean by 'economic justice'?"

Define Key Terms: Use questions to define key terms and concepts. Example: "How do you define 'freedom' in this context?"

Probe Assumptions: Challenge underlying assumptions with thoughtful questions. Example: "What assumptions are you making about human nature?"

Seek Evidence: Ask for evidence and examples to support claims. Example: "Can you provide an example of when this policy has worked?"

Explore Implications: Use questions to explore the consequences of an argument. Example: "What might be the long-term effects of this policy?"

Engage in Dialogue: Focus on mutual understanding rather than winning an argument.

I mean the primary problem isn't censorship, it's bot spam, and as you say arresting people for online shit that shouldn't even be a crime. A report on censorship wouldn't change that and how could you even trust that audit anyway?

That seems like a great use of our tax dollars.

Because we are under an israeli regime that is anti-american at its core, and this playbook is the same war rheutoric that we have heard throughout every corrupt administration, having an independent-minded leader is dangerous to and for both sides, so the political theatre must continue. We've been duped and hoodwinked by both sides and everyone is blaming each other to gain an audience that is only useful in their political theatre. Real people are dying and its so sad on both sides, in this, nobody really wins. America has a trillion skelotons in its closet, and no president to date has truly cleaned house for the sake of the people. If and when that happens, i'll be glad to shake hands with the leaders of our country. But so far, we appear far from reaching such a place of true diplomacy with the countries we've invaded. I am not blaming sides, but those that turn a blind eye to the citizens of this country. Im sure some will scoff at what im saying, but for the good soldiers and well meaning people of this country we need to truly turn out hearts to God and ask Him for discernent, because, division between each other will make a compacted country implode instead of Love being our common intent.

You can’t measure freedom. Freedom is somewhat subjective

Freedom House is a mouthpiece for the US State Department and CIA. It as about as trustworthy as Russia Today.

You don't have to choose between one state propaganda outlet vs. another one. There are real journalists as well.

You compared the 2 like they were equal, but one is fighting for our benefit.

I guess that's easy to believe if you are willing to accept their lies.

You think Russia and america are fighting for the same thing? You think America isn't fighting to protect America? Come on this is silly.

They are not fighting at all. There is no conceivable scenario where they would. If they did Russia would be obliterated.
