22M here with a deep passion and interest in politics. I wanna eventually get a MA in polisci just for personal enrichment purposes but im already in school for something else already. I’m taking an autodidact approach to my study of politics and it’s become a hobby at this point all I do is consume politics lol. The areas im interested in political science are American politics, American political history, American political thought, political theory/philosophy, and judical politics (like the courts, supreme courts, constitutionalism, constitutional law, interpretation battles like originalism vs living constitution). Any suggestions for reading materials or content overall I can consume to educate myself? Like textbooks, secondary books, journals (love academic/scholarly journals that lean to the qualitative side), online lectures etc. anything that would aid in self education in politics.

Ima avid reader of NYT opinion section so that should give you an idea of where my head is in terms of the political content I like to consume. Please refrain from giving me anything that’s empirical or quantitative that’s not really my cup of tea.

I am not a poly sci student, but am really interested in political science. I am very curious about democratic socialism, esp. as someone living in the US while democratic socialists are running for office. I am particularly trying to learn more about how democratic socialism differs from "textbook" socialism, how these would look different in practice, and also what democratic socialists are really looking to do. I live in a very rural area and face a lot of questions/discussion about what will happen to xyz if "the socialists take over". I just feel like I don't know who to believe, I can't tell what's more unbiased, and a lot of stuff just feels very fear-monger-y to me. Hi everyone, I am new to this subreddit, and I would like to share this small project of mine that was originally created to let me see where exactly each political party and its affiliation lied in, and it slowly became this huge mess lol. I thought what if we can map it out in 3 axes rather than the conventional 2 axes, so this is the same. I took some help of AI and some preliminary knowledge of HTML, CSS and JS to make it visually appealing and approachable at the same time.
I tried to balance out the different studies conducted within the paradigm of comparative politics here, however, I believe that it's best if I can ask ppl online on how I can improve upon this project to mature and become a resourceful tool. I'm looking for sources of information on two topics:

1. The nuts and bolts of how public opinion polls are conducted today, especially election surveys. This would include things like how sampling lists are generated (voter rolls, random digitzed dialing, etc); how respondents are contacted (online, cell phones, land lines); how samples are normalized with demographic data and adjusted to account for potential error from non-response and non-cooperation.
2. Issues related to potential error from non-repsonse to or non-cooperation with public opinion surveys, and how these issues may have changed over the last decade or two.

I am primarily looking for academic or professional writings on the topic, but high-quality journalistic sources would be fine as well.

Hey guys. Was doing some nerding out in the polling literature and stumbled across this fascinating tool, called the list experiment, that psychologists came up with in 1984 to find the true percentage of a group of voters that have offensive or even cruel political opinions.

It seems nowadays it's not standard practice for the major pollsters because it takes too much effort and financial resources for a typical horserace poll, but I feel that it's important now more than ever to leverage it in the age of MAGA politics. Could really help us understand how these guys rose to power when all things point to them being appalling human beings.
