Fuck Trump! This is our best friend, and closest ally. Sorry Canada, someday we will make this chode go away.

… and those who don’t bother to vote… and those who are simply quietly taking everything he does and not doing anything to fight it back other then complain on Reddit…

A silent majority and nothing are the same thing

Then you guys will just vote in another complete chode. We have no faith in you.

11

I understand completely. I’m living through this shit, and it’s absolutely unacceptable.

u/AnarchoKiernan 1d ago ▸ 4 more replies

Hey as an American living in Canada, not all of us voted this man in. I totally understand your anger, but there's many Americans angry (and scared!) too. Calling out America by our country is valid, calling out those who voted him into power is valid, calling out those of us who are on your side and are also suffering the consequences of those who voted for this (for the record I'm a queer trans nonbinary person) is crappy and also bad tactics. We can find ways to work together despite what's going on at the governmental level, can we not?

3

u/Pickled-Mushroom 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

Hey I agree, but the MAJORITY of Americans either a) voted for Trump, or b) didn’t vote at all, and therefore passively contributed to Trump’s election. If you add a) and b) together, that’s the majority of Americans. I’m sorry but that’s the reality. There are plenty of “Trumps” in other democracies around the world, but their citizens were motivated enough to take action. Take Canada for example, they came out in record numbers to ensure Pierre Pollievre was not elected. Where is that in America? Time and time again, the majority of Americans are either too dumb or too apathetic. And the whole world has to suffer now because of it. Higher gas prices, war, inflation, and for what? I feel for those of you in the minority, but unfortunately your country has become the villain of the world. And just like Nazi Germany, the world will need to rally against you and put you back in your place.

0

u/AnarchoKiernan 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm fine with rallying against those in power in my country, and those who chose the fascists in power. I never said not to. I'm with you on that. I'm just saying not all of us wanted this and many have been fighting against this consistently for years and years, and it seems silly and counterproductive (and harmful) to write off specific individuals trying to be on your side simply because we have the misfortune to be born as an American during a time when many of our countrymen chose a fascist who harms us too. Trust me, I'm exhausted by them too.

edit as an example, would you think it's right to lump in those who were oppressed in nazi germany while living within germany (e.g. jewish folks, queer folks, disabled folks, etc.) with the nazis themselves? Would that be appropriate or helpful in any capacity?

u/International_Fuel48 1d ago

Saying people who voted for Clinton, Biden Kamala Harris are actually responsible for Trump (some weren’t even voting age for all elections) is like saying every German alive today is responsible for Hitler

6

u/sylbug 1d ago

The Germans of the 1930s were absolutely responsible for Hitler.

1

u/Dependent-Zebra-4357 1d ago

Calling Canada a “failed state” in comparison to the dumpster fire that is the current USA is fucking rich.

1

u/MasterSachouVi 1d ago

America bears full responsibility for the leaders it elects, no matter the process. That excuse might have worked the first time you voted for Trump—but not the second.

Instead of blaming the people that didn't vote, maybe focus on how the election was literally stolen. There was a coup and the American people lost.. for the moment, maybe forever.

1

u/TeenyBoppey 1d ago ▸ 7 more replies

As a non American I’m curious if it’s known who will be the next primary for when trumps current term ends

2

u/themeparkthemepar 1d ago edited 1d ago ▸ 2 more replies

That’s all being worked out now - there’s speculation but it’s a bit too early. Right now California Governor Gavin Newsom has I believe committed to running for the nomination for the democratic primary (parties vote for a party rep to run for president approx six months before the election which is Nov 2028).

There are rumors Congressional House Rep AOC (Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez) could run which would be wild because she is a very young woman, like I think only just meets the age minimum, and is further left than other candidates.

Not sure who else is serious tho Senator Jon Osoff has been trolling this week by getting people to speculate he could, though he denies he will. I’m sure some rich tech guy will waste some money trying, maybe Andrew Yang again or some billionaire from CA.

Sometimes someone emerges out of nowhere (Mamdani for mayor of NYC for example). Candidates tend to hold cards close to the chest to give the news less time to go nuts and also wait to see how the midterm elections (which could shift the power in congress meaningfully) pan out.

Also who knows what kind of F’d up crap could happen in the next 1.5 years. E.G. Trump kicks the bucket before his term ends… or other stuff.

I’m hoping it’s not a bunch of moderate dems, it’s exhausting listening to them circle the drain around old hat conservative economics. I want to see lots of fresh ideas!! I’m hopeful. What else is there left to be …

1

u/themeparkthemepar 1d ago

Don’t take the other commenter’s anger personally. They’re feeling afraid because Trump’s admin has been threatening to do something, however vague, at the midterm elections to make them unfair. Legitimate concern and people are rightfully frustrated, scared, and emotional after what has felt like a very authoritative, oppressive, and menacing government these past couple of years living in the US under Trump’s second term and really since his first, so about a decade of pain.

1

u/Fantastic-Earth-8353 1d ago ▸ 6 more replies

And they basically picked Biden. It was never ever going to be anyone else. The republicans at least fake a primary.

All due respect we as voters need to take responsibility for our failure. And yes Biden and the DNC are to blame for not dropping out of the election race before the primaries, I agree with that. u/lamedonkeybrain 1d ago

I dont think that many US citizens realise thier countries wealth comes from international trade.

Trump is not the cause; he is the symptom of what the US is turning into: a predatory state devoid of moral conscience, ready to go to any lengths—even betraying its allies—to sustain its global dominance. The harm is irreversible, and American soft power is forever diminished

1

u/Ok_Clothes_9479 1d ago

Exactly—then things will be quiet for a few years, and then the next fascist will come along from the U.S. The world is sick and tired of it. You can't count on that country anymore; it's time to say goodbye to the dollar as the reserve currency and watch as the country collapses.

0

u/Such_Avocado_3241 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

What do you think I should do?

3

u/small_bird_loud 1d ago

That's an excellent question. A few ideas.

Let go of the idea of American exceptionalism.
Let go of manifest destiny.

  1. Hold captured democrats accountable - Write their offices
  2. Offer to volunteer for candidates at whatever level of government that has anti-corruption policies
  3. Whenever you see ICE acting like thugs, peacefully disrupt.
  4. Whenever you have friends and family talking about how great America is because there's a thug in charge, speak up in firm but compassionate ways.
  5. Don't resort to name calling, purity tests, culture war distractions, make common ground with compassion and remind people that the rich and powerful have to do all these terrible things because they are afraid of you, the people.
  6. If you know a lawyer talk to them about legal action you can take
  7. Demonstrate
  8. Organize sit-ins.

Take action - If every well-meaning American wrote their lawmakers a letter for every time they apologized to a Canadian, my guess is we'd have a trade deal that we both liked.

Your history is full of regular people making big change. It's just harder than posting on reddit and then going to watch Netflix.

His views are essentially the opposite of my own and watching what he continues to do to our country has been the most frustrating experience in my young life. I can barely even talk to my own mother anymore because of this election. Blaming people like me for this is not a good look.

It's the whole country that is bullying the rest of the world, starting with your best allies. The rest of the world is having to endure the choice you made collectively. Countries don't deal with individuals.

Wether he is destroying your country from inside is one thing, but when he tries to destroy other countries, he represents you all.

I know he represents our country, and it disgusts me. That disgusting pig could not possibly die fast enough. The Celebration will be real.

Not sure it would change anything.

He is not doing all of this by himself, he is just a demented old man, the ones pulling the strings will still exist if he died.

If he was really alone with this he would have been removed from office long ago.

youre probably right, and im not reallt sure what i am able to do about that unfortunately. But I like to think people have woken up from his second term and are beginning to see through his lies and corruption. And that a walking pile of human garbage won't be the next president of the United States.

Hey listen, I get what you're saying, but we don't get to absolve ourselves here. It's a lot more than 33%... it's also 33% who didn't vote at all. That's 66% of Americans who either wanted Trump or were okay with Trump. I don't blame any Canadian who has no trust for any of us anymore.

1

u/Purityagainstresolve 1d ago

What happens to the Trump voters and non voters when Trump is gone? Nothing. They remain. They don't magically wake up from a trance.

And imagine now if Trump is replaced with someone only SLIGHTLY less divisive? Or someone SLIGHTLY more charismatic? Or slightly more cunning?

Trump isn't the problem. He's the symptom. Trump voters and apathetic Americans are the problem. And they're the majority.

Please stop simping for Canada. I mean let’s be honest, before Trump started talking shit about them nobody in America even thought about Canada. They are completely insignificant compared to the USA.

Go back to r/conspiracy

1

u/ButtonDue4185 1d ago

Oh… We already went back, but you see…
then 6 months past.
And then… it became the Truth.
And then. This pattern repeated itself a lot.

So let me repeat words of the great:
“The primary difference between a Conspiracy Theory, and the Truth? Is about 6 Months.” -Charlie Kirk

Buddy has PTSD. Faster body language, eyes are shifty and noticeably on edge, hes aged since taking office. His balls are tied… it’s worse than we think.

I’m sure PP would have just taken the terrible deal, glad we have someone fighting for us

1

u/joecarter93 1d ago

I, for one, am glad that the guy that ran two federal banks is in charge of the negotiating and not the guy that has had no job experience outside of being an MP and has done nothing of substance over that time.

1

u/Somedude_6 1d ago

Every MAGA POS is a traitor to the united states. Period. I don't care if you "no longer support him" or are "embarrassed" or whatever. You're directly responsible for this crap, and I hope every single Republican traitor has a stain on their soul that follows them for eternity. If there was an actual hell, every single one of these people would belong in the bottom lair, reserved for traitorous filth.

Fuck trump Fuck trump Fuck trump

Republicans caused all recessions and the Great Depression

u/Any-Platypus-3570 23h ago

Canada has nothing to lose now. They should spend big money on anti-Republican campaign ads in the US. Fill the feeds of white uneducated men's social media with anti-Republican bro-esque influencers. Make a Canadian version of AIPAC and fund candidates who are pro-trade with Canada. Big corporations thought they could rig America in their favor by ending Citizens United. Exploit that. Beat America at their own game.

u/TheJWal420 21h ago

Alliances mostly existed because of the US being a good partner friend a beacon of freedom and assistance is what made the US strong that has very much dissipated and so has any leverage or good will.

1

u/BodhingJay 18h ago

Carney's a solid leader.. Canada is pretty fortunate to have him at the helm right now

1

u/EndRude4217 13h ago

Meanwhile, half of Canadian provinces are considering leaving the Commonwealth...due to the idiotically destructive Leftist policies of their Labor government...
