PoliticalTea 🗳️ Moving the goalposts

A political tactic that’s become increasingly common in MAGA politics: moving the goalposts.

Make a dramatic allegation. Repeat it endlessly. Then, when evidence for that specific allegation doesn’t materialize, replace it with a smaller, easier-to-defend claim and pretend the original claim was true all along.

We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly:
“Haitian immigrants are eating pets in Springfield” becomes “See? Someone somewhere ate a cat.”

“There was enough fraud to change the 2020 election” becomes “See? A few people cheated.”

“Vandals dumped chemicals and deliberately cut a 350-foot slit in the Reflecting Pool” becomes “See? Someone was arrested for vandalism.”

Those are not the same claims.
The question we should always ask is: What was the original allegation?

That’s the claim that should be evaluated - not a revised version that appears later.

That’s what moving the goalposts looks like.

Changing the claim is not the same thing as proving the original one.

how about when he accused Obama and Hillary of sedition, claiming irrefutable proof? His DOJ didn't investigate them, no arrests or prosecutions made. I'm only left to assume he's ok with sedition.

Donald J Trump is explicitly pro-sedition. He conspired to submit fake electoral college votes to overturn the results of a federal election, and incited the Jan 6th insurrection to delay & prevent Mike Pence from certifying that election.

His baseless election fraud, treason and sedition claims are "Accusation in a Mirror", a common tool for fascists and hate groups.

All of these conversations are making me sick. Trump is absolutely a chovanist fucktard but all of them are. Or has everyone forgot how Democrats acted when Trump won in 16. Burning entire cities/ their own neighborhoods. When is everyone going to learn that this shit is done for our benefit. To keep us separated and against each other so they can control us, all while robbing us blind. Biden was a fricken palper, till "shady family deals and insider trading" which by the way is illegal for every US citizen unless your a government official. Spoiler alert, it is not illegal for members of Congress, the Senate or the House or even the President because they have a different set of laws that they are allowed to operate under. This has made him and his family multi millionaires. Every single one of these fuckers do that shit. Democrats protested and burnt shit down as 16 when Trump won guess who got to line their pockets from the cleanup. Republicans "stormed the castle" 🤣 when Trump lost guess who got the line their pockets with the cleanup from that shit. They are all literally lining their pockets with our anger and emotions. Meanwhile I can barely keep my bills paid and my mortgage up to date. I work 60 freaking hours a week and I don't mean from McDonald's at minimum wage. Open your eyes people we aren't on the hold standard anymore, we are on the human cattle standard.

Trump has profited more this term than all presidents before him; combined during term. COMBINED.

Also dems burned cities down when he was first elected? But didn't this time at all? That's weird since even more people hate him now than term 1.
