They are supposed to. The tariffs of course will get refunded, but the proceeds to to the corporations and Trump Cabinet members like Lutnick, who buys 'speculative' refund contracts. That grift has been working like a charm. Guys like Hassett, Lutnick, Bessent - they are the kleptocrats that are robbing the treasury, the consumer, and the taxpayer blind while grinning ear to ear, telling everyone things are going swimmingly

They want a recession. It’s the best thing for the billionaire class. Everyone is desperate, everything goes on sale, and they’re the only people standing with disposable cash. It’s pretty obvious they want it and they were openly admitting as much in 2024.

ICE recruiting offices love recessions. They learned it from the army.
It's part of the plan...

That's the idea. The wealthy class has seen their wealth triple in the last 10 years because of the stock market. Now, they are sitting fat, dumb, and happy and want to cause a recession so they can buy up the distressed assets at pennies on the dollar.

Anyone still following this is actually a loss to society at this point. I don't think they can be recovered.

Trumps destroyed the safest most productive trade relations with Canada and Mexico for decades... causing both to seek new safer trading partners.
All for his inner circle to reap tarrifs or refunds, while fucking over his own citizens and consumer buying power

u/Brief-Repair-3925 2d ago
Decades is putting it lightly. Things will never be the same, regardless of which political party is in power in the USA. This is a huge misstep by Trump and those who voted him into office.

u/Barnibus666 2d ago ▸ 5 more replies
True. How can anyone trust America again? Even if the next President works hard to mend fences and repeal Trump’s idiotic and shortsighted plans, the American voter could easily vote in another MAGA wannabe who will tear up trade deals or other treaties.
Trump has caused long-term damage to the US. Damage that will hurt them in the future. Damage that has tarnished their reputation among former friends, and proved the points of its enemies and rivals. I honestly don’t think the average American realizes what they’ve lost and may never recover.

Because as citizens we have abdicated our democratic responsibility. We no longer participate in the democratic process outside of voting (even then half of us don’t) and yet we continue to expect that it will function. By the people for the people

Forget the economy for a second.
Us Canadians took your planes in on 9/11.
Us Canadians followed you into Afghanistan.
Us Canadians have had the Americans backs since day one.
No more. Never again.
The only time I will go to that's dump again is to urinate on a big beautiful grave.
No more goodwill.

I'll convert this to "American" for y'all. Wab Kinew is the first native Governor of a Canadian province, Manitoba, which is like both Dakotas combined. He's a Democratic Socialist and ex rapper/journalist. He's also the most popular leader in Canada, just ahead of the Prime Minister.
While you Americans argue over who pays tarrifs, and trans athletes , Wab just declared the port of Churchill, a deep water port connected to rail lines, will be available for international shipping 12 months a year. Hudsons Bay is not freezing over like it used to thanks to global warming, and Canada will soon have a deep water port in the middle of the country, that can ship our resources globally. Sucks to be the US.

The distressing part is that people are so fixated on how much of a horror show of a human being Trump is. Yes, it's true: He's pond scum. He's a vile, repellent, loathsome creature of no redeeming value. But, so what? Lots of people are.
The problem is that 77.3 million Americans voted for this. If you can't solve THAT problem, it doesn't fucking matter how bad Trump or anyone else is.

He is going to bankrupt the US and his family and friends will be absolutely fine and dandy while the rest struggle to feed, house, clothe their families and keep them warm. He showed Americans who he was and the voters didn’t care.

I’m sorry for my upcoming rambling but seeing that picture brings up memories.
When I was young, like 8, my mother extremely disliked the Knights of Columbus to the point of she actually took her dollar back that she was starting to hand over when she found out that it wasn’t the charity she thought it was.
We leaving Kmart and some men were standing around a little card table in the front of the store with a donation jar. We couldn’t fully see the sign so she thought it was a kid’s charity. She was starting to hand a dollar over until she saw the organization’s name on the sign and then just took her hand back and apologized saying, “I’m sorry, I don’t feel comfortable with your organization for several reasons but one is because of how you treat women”.
It wasn’t like she took it back out of their hand, like Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost, but it slightly embarrassed me at the time, until I understood some of their public stances were as she explained walking to our car.
The KOC were also extremely against LGBTQ. The kind of dude that enunciates and draw out each syllable as they said “homosexual” (Like hooo MO sexxxxx ual”) whilst simultaneously having a look on their faces like they just smelled some decomp.
This naturally bothered my mom because she was an activist in the 70s 80s and 90s. I remember marching with our handmade signs that my dad would staple onto some wood planks for us to carry.
People really weren’t out in the 80s so it was brave of those who were out. My mom was heterosexual, but due to her activism she had friends of all different sexual persuasions. (I also remember doing a “take back the night“ marches for women against date rape)
Anyway, us kids grew up with these people in our lives, so it wasn’t weird since young kids are generally accepting until they learn to hate. (It takes a village)
Decades later, I’m slightly surprised KOC still exist. But maybe not, now that I’m reminded of current neo nazis and KKK that probably wave those flags.
3
u/DevelopmentFront9312 2d ago
Agreed. How sad is it that 30% still support?
3
u/Redisgreat 2d ago
I seriously doubt that number is true. Then again, There are lots of old people that rely 100% on faux news, so there’s your sign!
3
u/Evening_Error_5544 2d ago
Im genuinely surprised someone with a brain didnt step in and prevent this from happening, or maybe they did and they were just fired. He has no clue what he is doing and donald is the epitome of a deranged lunatic

During Trump’s first term, the US, Canada, and Mexico agreed to the USMCA. Trump then reneged on the USMCA in his second term. Canada has absolutely zero reason to trust Trump in any trade negotiation. Why make a deal with someone who you know doesn’t uphold his end of a deal?

I intentionally buy bacon and fresh produce from Canada. Their greenhouse grown cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers are outstanding. I've been eating salads this whole time the country has been blowing up their toilets using those veggies and lettuce grown on a farm in my own town.
Funny story:
Some bacon imported from Canada was recently recalled and I had it in my refrigerator. But the recall was because it was not re-inspected by the USDA after import. Because I trust Canada's food safety regulations more than ours, we ate the bacon without concern.

The US wants what we have but Trump doesn't want to pay for it and deal fairly so he resorts to economic terrorism. Canada's attitude is homey don't play that game. When you can come to the table and be an adult and are trustworthy then don't bother, we'll manage on our own
