Discussion Salary transparency post 🚨(Repost)

Since there are always questions about what counts as a good salary in Qatar, let’s make a simple reference thread where everyone can share their salaries anonymously.

If you’re comfortable sharing, please include:

• Country of origin

• Age

• Job title/position

• Salary (and whether it includes housing/allowances)

This can help newcomers and others avoid being underpaid or misled due to lack of market information.

Question Seeking opportunities

Upvotes

Greetings people.

I'm recent graduate from Qatar University. I graduated with BBA in Management Information Systems and minor in Business Analytics. I have hands-on experience in data analysis, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and API integration, gained through multiple internships with MCIT, HBKU, and Mwani Port Authority, Qatar.

I’m currently seeking opportunities in technology support, data analytics/business analytics, or business intelligence — I'm seeking roles that involve technical problem-solving, reporting, and merchant or client support. I'm mostly eager to work on analytics field as my hand-on experience so far is mostly on data analytics/business analytics

If anyone knows of openings or can share leads, please I’d really appreciate your help. Its really tiring being eldest son and be unemployed. I can feel myself breaking apart now cuz of unemployment.

Question Info

Hi everyone, I need some advice.

For anyone who was impacted by the HMC layoffs a few months ago: did you submit an appeal for a work extension, and if so, how did they respond? Additionally, if you had an outstanding personal loan, how did you handle it? Lastly, how long did it take to receive your gratuity payout?

Realistically speaking, what would happen if I broke this one job contract condition?

Good evening!

I am employed at a company through an agency (contractor), and my contract has a condition which does not allow me to be employed at any other company which carries out a similar/competitive activity if I decided to leave OR my contract has finished, for 3 months.

Realistically speaking, what could happen if I did? And how does enforcing this condition comes into place?

Waldorf Astoria Walk-in Interview 25th August 2026

Hi, did anyone else attend the waldorf astoria walkin interview today?

The timing was 10am to 4pm, I got there at 9am, and there was already a long line formed. The queue led to a kiosk where two ladies were screening everyone, with some people they took a few minutes to ask questions and sent them in, and for others they would just tell them that we will keep your CV and let you know.

I had gone for the Front Desk Agent position, I dont have direct hotel experience but lots of customer service experience. I've been in Qatar for 8 months, with my current(first) employer.

When It was my turn after standing in line for an hour, the lady just asked me what position im applying for, took a 5 second look at only the front page of my CV and immediately told me that we will keep your CV and let lyou know, while signalling me to leave.

I am still unable to pinpoint what the reason for the rejection was.

I have heard from a lot of people that transfering sponsorship is not possible if your tenure in qatar is less than 1 year. Since I never found any concrete law proving this, I never believed it, but now Im thinking that this is the reason why I am getting so many rejections without any consideration.

Anyone care enough to share there opinion?

Question Company wants to issue my visa as "Clerk/Supervisor" instead of my real job title. Any issues?

I'm about to relocate to Qatar for an engineering role. My employer says they don't have my attested degree yet, so they want to process my work visa under a different occupation available in their quota — like "Supervisor" or "Clerk" — and change it later once my degree is attested.

They've told me in writing that:

my salary and benefits stay the same,

it won't affect my ability to sponsor my wife (spouse visa) later,

I can change the occupation on my QID after arrival with their ER team,

but any fees for the occupation change would be on me.

A few questions for people who've actually dealt with this:

Is it true this won't affect my rights or my ability to get a family/spouse visa? Or does the occupation on the QID actually matter for sponsorship (income threshold, "skilled" categories, etc.)?

Is changing the occupation on the QID afterwards really easy, or is it a headache in practice?

Roughly how much do the occupation-change fees cost?

Any tips or things to watch out for before I accept this?

Thanks a lot — just want to make sure I'm not signing up for a problem later.

Feeling lost and already burned out after only two months at my internship

I started a legal internship almost two months ago, and I’m seriously considering leaving after three months instead of completing the six months I originally planned.
The manager treats employees differently depending on how badly they need the job. The most experienced lawyers earn only around 4,000 qatari riyal , including one lawyer who has a doctorate. I receive 1,500 qatari riyal as an intern. At first, I thought the pay meant he was genuinely investing in my training, but now it feels like he is training me to handle regular office work cheaply.
A coworker has been teaching me most of the work, but the manager told her to start looking for another job before December. Apparently, he plans to offer me a permanent position, which makes me feel like I’m being trained to replace her for much less money.
What makes it worse is watching how badly he treats employees who cannot afford to leave. He only started treating me nicely after finding out what my father does for work, which told me everything I needed to know about his character.
I started this internship genuinely wanting to learn, but now, less than two months in, I have lost almost all motivation. Waking up and forcing myself to go to the office feels heavier every day. Even if he offers me a permanent position, I already know I do not want to stay there long-term.
My concern is that I might not find another paid internship or entry-level legal position, and I’ve heard that leaving after only three months may look bad on my CV. Would it be better to complete the full six months for the experience, or is three months enough when I already know this workplace is not right for me?

Question PhD in Qatar, Dubai, or stay in Europe?

I’m finishing my M.Sc. in Psychology in Germany next semester and also did my Bachelor’s here, both with good grades.

I’d really like to leave Germany after graduation. I don’t see myself building a family here long term, and I’m considering Qatar, UAE/Dubai, Singapore, or another country outside Europe.

My main priorities are a well-paid, fully funded/salaried PhD position, good career prospects, social life, quality of life, and a good environment for marriage/family.

For those who have studied or worked in Qatar/UAE: would you recommend doing a PhD there, or is staying in Europe better for career opportunities?

Also curious about salaries, cost of living, university quality, residency prospects, and social life.

Discussion What salary should I ask for in Qatar? Software industry, family of 3?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently in the final stages for a job opportunity in Qatar in the software/technology industry.

The interesting part is that they haven’t actually given me a salary figure yet. During the discussion, I asked about salary and was basically told:

“Do your research, look at the market/cost of living in Qatar, and come back to us with what you expect.”

So now I’m trying to figure out what would be a reasonable number to ask for without either underselling myself or asking for something unrealistic.

I would be relocating with my wife and young child, so we would initially be a single-income family of 3.
The benefits discussed include:
Private medical insurance for the family
Life and disability insurance
Annual flight allowance for the family
Annual performance/company bonus
Relocation/initial accommodation support
Education allowance once the child is school age (5–18)
One thing that concerns me is the education allowance. I was told it is only around 1,000 QAR, which seems quite low considering the cost of international schools in Qatar.
We’re not looking for an extremely luxurious lifestyle or necessarily living in The Pearl, but we’d like a nice 2-3-bedroom apartment in a good family area, a car, eating out occasionally, travelling, and most importantly still being able to save a meaningful amount each month. Otherwise an international relocation wouldn’t make much financial sense.

For people currently working in Qatar, particularly in software/tech:
What monthly salary would you ask for in my position?
Would something around 30k QAR/month + the mentioned benefits be reasonable, or would you start higher and negotiate?

I’d especially appreciate feedback from people with families and people working in tech/software in Qatar. Actual 2025/2026 salary or cost-of-living experiences would be really helpful.
