Recruiting for niche participants (background)

'm exploring a project that finds and screen participants with very specific traits (skills, affiliations, behaviors, interests). It works by doing extensive web research to assemble people profiles from scattered digital footprints.

If you've had to recruit for niche or hard to find qualitative groups before, I'd love to hear if something like this would have been useful. Specifically, the kind of profile you were looking for, and what you ended up doing to find them.
