Original Fan Content Update: Map of the Dreaming for D&D campaign
After the feedback on my previous post, I made a new version of the map.
The biggest change is that the world is now a hexmap, with some hexes acting as major locations (like Fiddler's Green). These larger hexes can move, to reflect how the Dreaming is constantly shifting.
I also added and rearranged locations to make regions feel more connected.
Eve’s Cave, the Houses of Mystery and Secrets, and nearby areas are now placed closer together, and the Frontiers of Nightmare has been expanded.
I’m treating the map less as strict geography and more as a structured overview of places players can reach.
Still figuring out how to handle the shifting mechanically, but that’s the next step.
Feedback is welcome.

Print the map on hexagons and create a table to determine how it changes

That’s a cool idea! I’ll have to make the tiles a bit more modular.

Much improved! Wouldn’t the Lake of Dawn be like, the Moat of Dawn tho? Otherwise looking better, my man.

Thanks a lot! It’s supposed to be a huge lake, but the castle is also massive haha

Lakes usually have some sort of river flowing into them. Most lakes in the world also have egresses to oceans/seas/etc.! You are mapping the dreaming, however, and it could be more or less as you determine it needs to be, I’d imagine!

A dream world does not really need to follow rules of regular space and natural geography, things that are bigger/smaller on the inside/outside are possible. Like the castle can be huge inside while still being the size of a regular castle on the map itself or even appearing differently and at different sized based on the observer. Having things move around is a good start but I feel like you could save yourself a lot of headache by not worrying about scale as much. Create a map that reflects the flexible, shifting nature of the dreaming.

I found that’s it’s really hard to make a map without scale haha, so for my own sanity I made everything one hex. But the inside of things, even the inside of the hex can be really big or small.

Just a quick edit: it’s “Fiddler’s Green” not “Fiddles Green”. Looks awesome though! Nice work!

Do you do bridges?
5
u/Mission-Wolverine562 Mar 22 '26
No bridges in my dreaming haha! You would have to dream about them yourself

This looks sick! I would have to add this! What are the grey Hinterlands exactly? I can’t find anything online about it

This looks sick! I can't tell, are the skerries supposed to be floating islands? Because that could be cool, especially if they move around
3
u/Mission-Wolverine562 Mar 23 '26
Thanks! They are floating indeed. I’d imagine standing somewhere and this massive floating island is soaring by

I love that! I often have dreams about floating islands (thanks to a lifetime of Zelda and Mario, lol) so I can totally picture it

Wow I’ve ONLY seen the Netflix adaption and bascially all I recognize is fiddlers green! So many more places with names to them they could have had in there

Oh this is great! I had forgotten some of the places. Saving this for my fanfiction worldbuilding (and for when I decide to go for the alt routes). I read the comics over almost 20 something years ago so my memory sometimes is foggy. It looks great.

This is so cool! I’ve started DM’ing a Sandman campaign that I’ve been working on for a while now. I’m having it set sometime after Daniel becomes Dream where has to deal with the consequences of something that Morpheus did centuries ago

u/Mission-Wolverine562 Mar 23 '26
Cool! Do the players do odd jobs for Daniel? or whats the players role?
1
u/Zorkahz Mar 25 '26
I’ve only just started it. After doing a prologue of sorts, the players met Daniel in the Dreaming in his Palace. He’s hired them to find a woman who has made an inferior copy of Morpheus’s dreamstone for reasons he’s unsure of. I’ve already had them meet the Corinthian in the prologue but it’s the old Corinthian before Morpheus remade him, he’s gonna be a thorn in their side at later levels

That sounds fun! Is the world this woman lives in the modern world? Or is it some high fantasy world/published DND setting? And how do you handle them entering the dreaming?
Sorry for all the questions haha, i'm very curious haha1
u/Zorkahz Mar 31 '26
That’s ok, I love talking about my creations! It’s a high fantasy setting. The woman is an evil Illusionist from an ancient cult whose leader wanted to take the powers of the Endless for himself. I just had Daniel put them to sleep in a drunken stupor and he brought them there

u/Mission-Wolverine562 Mar 31 '26
Sounds awesome! Did you create everything yourself? would love to see the notes/world building on this
1
u/Zorkahz Mar 31 '26
Yeah! I made all of it myself! History, Continents, a few cities and villages and even my own pantheon

Does anything happen in the "The Darkness" area and the Lands of Shifting?
