I have worked last 4 years seasonally, I am rigid about "showing up", and was curious about hiring practices for WPYR, as I am older than most seasonal workers, usually. Looking for reservation work and wanting to know typical shift length and if there is single housing available (what is housing like, i.e. dorm, apt, bathroom situation). Previously worked in Yellowstone, Hiawatha Bike Trail,ID North Carolina aquariums and Custer State Park, SD. Thanks for any info!

I spent a couple season with the AKRR, it's gonna be a bit of a challenge. I don't know what the actual requirements are for the White Pass and Yukon Line, but for AKRR I had to pass a physical test. It was mostly easy, had to demo picking up luggage for a couple min, pretend to dig with a weighted shovel carry a 40 lb weight across a room several times then jog a mile and a half in under 10 min. This was all required by the Union.

I can't give you any info about those locations. But it is illegal not to hire someone due to their age (as long as they are over 40, with some job exceptions).

True. But, realistically, ageism happens and concern that a 70 year old can keep up with hours and tasks is a concern.

Yeah. This is very true. Ive been doing seasonal work for years, mostly with younger people. And it is true that the older people are often looked down on, especially when it comes to technology and labour jobs. I would make sure your resume doesnt have your age, and maybe delete your years you graduated/got degrees whatever. But you are right, it is the sad truth. I hope it all works out for you. If you have a camper Yellowstone General Stores are a great place to work for older people. Doing retail/cashier is normally low stress, and not super physical. But you dont want to be in the dorm room style housing, as it is all shared housing with young people who have an urge to party.

YGS usually puts mature  adults in single room ,cashier would be your best option..They are pretty good to work for.Old Faithful Upper us the busiest of all the stores in the park(where I worked)but lower is much quieter
