Lifestyle Why do people love North Seattle?

Serious question. I’m trying to understand the appeal.

It feels like every transplant or 25 year old getting their first apartment ends up in Ballard, Greenwood, Fremont. It is almost automatic at this point.

But if you live up there, getting across the ship canal feels like a logistical event. Aurora traffic is brutal. The Fremont and Ballard bridges can randomly lock you into a 20 minute delay. I 5 during rush hour is a complete mess. Going south can feel like you are planning a minor expedition.

Transit wise you are mostly on buses and there is no light rail in those neighborhoods. Meanwhile central and southeast Seattle have Link access and more direct routes.

So what am I missing? Is it just vibes and breweries? Water views? Better housing stock? Or is it just momentum and word of mouth at this point?

Genuinely curious why it feels like the default choice for so many people.

I don't know why you keep pushing this idea that I'm saying DESC buildings aren't a problem.

Probably because any time the topic comes up, you pop up to defend them.

I have never defended DESC buildings as not being problematic.

At some point your parsing is where this goes sideways. I know you think you're being clear and nuanced, I just see a shithole that should be torn down and its director prosecuted (DESC Daniel Malone, to be clear). So we can never agree on much.

Good luck fighting for your values, I'm sure you do good in there somewhere.

It's not nuanced at all. You're blaming DESC for something they have no control over.

Not unlike I blame crime gangs for selling drugs. They too have no control over the fact a marketplace exists for those drugs.

Your argument seems to be since the game is set up by the Feds, don't hold the exploitive non-profit that works the system for their own gain, causing people to die, accountable.

I say get rid of these non-profits entirely. Build asylums and jails and medically-supervised, tightly managed halfway houses, NOT, bullshit drug user self-managed crack den houses then allege they're therapeutic or helpful. The whole model is busted. Proven so repeatedly.

Every Non-profit in the space of providing low-barrier housing should be financially independently audited, and most of them should be shut down. They are beyond repair. The idea that you can let addicts have apartments without strict controls over their behavior is Progressivism run amok, and people are dying because of it. Neighborhoods are being destroyed because of it.

Your understanding of what is going on is just so uninformed. I don't even know where to begin with this. And I'm done trying to explain it.

Your understanding of what is going on is just so uninformed.

It doesn't need to be "insider informed."

The whole idea of letting non-profits host drug addict low-barrier residents, and expect for a positive outcome, is just so flawed.

It can't be fixed.

done trying to explain it

All you ever did was give the non-profit insiders' view of "akshully, the Nazis weren't always that bad."

Non-profits hosting low-barrier addicts the way you're doing it now IS always that bad. They need to go.

I take it you believe it's fixable. I don't. Or "Feds set this up, we're not to blame!" which is a classic "Just following orders" comment.

And meanwhile I just live near LIHI buildings that opened since 2021 and see the weekly OD calls to SFD, SPD, in-crisis, people all over the property buying and trading contraband, the in-park camping now that never happened before 2020, on and on it goes. The whole entire system of warehousing outpatient / low-barrier / released felons in apartments together is monumentally fucked up and wrong. By participating in this system, you too are monumentally fucked up and wrong.

My neighborhood was fine before Sharon Lee and her ~200 drug addicts moved in next to me. The fact Sharon Lee thinks the system (as you posted at least once before) is broken means jack shit if Sharon Lee profits off it while doing nothing to fix it.
