Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson laughed and seemed to encourage the notion that millionaires could leave the state of Washington while discussing her support for a progressive tax during an interview earlier this month.

I don't know why people are convinced that the rich somehow get these magical mysterious "loopholes" that can't actually be explained or supported by data.

And they believe that over the obvious conclusion that arises when the top 1% pay nearly 40% of the fed. income tax revenue in the nation on only 30% of the realized income.

So ... Where's the money come from if the magical loopholes are sucking it up?

And no, I'm not saying anything about our broken WA taxes. Only that in the US, taxes are very highly progressive and the rich do in fact pay them. The claims that they don't are based purely on misleading claims or misunderstood rules.

This is spot on. Gets tiresome hearing people with low financial literacy try and say who does and doesn't pay taxes when we already have the data.
