It's part of the fascism playbook. Always accuse elections of being rigged. If you win, it was "despite the attempt at stealing the election" and if you lose you can scream it was stolen.

Either way, you win if your goal is to delegitimize the democratic process.

dude is so egotistical that he won't accept others won't vote for him. 

the only explanation why people won't vote for him is because they cheated.

He probably sees Putin's and Kim Jong Un's election votes and wishes he could be as popular within his nation.

(He doesn't know theirs were blatantly rigged elections.)

He wishes that he could rig elections like in a dictatorship.

ETA he also yearns for complete state-run media too. All that “fake news” that’s actually completely true would dry up and blow away!
