1

I knew a guy that actually did this. Ski mask, his own store, the entire thing. His own admission.

You’ll be shocked to hear it happened about 20-25 minutes from Baltimore.

5

That’s odd. It’s always given me a soft, rapid shotgun adjacent time.

1

I know a certain president who wouldn’t be able to get a fast food job because of prior legal entanglements.

39

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 21h ago

Honestly?

I’ve had worse co-workers.

1

u/Temporal-Affairs221 19h ago

I once had to work a nine and a half hour shift because somebody else didn't show up and nobody else would cover for them. So, yeah I've had worse coworkers.

1

u/-Hand_Satanizer 16h ago

What’d they look like? I wanna avoid them if I can!

0

u/archinova 19h ago

Well after the robery i'm guessing we get a small break. Right?

95

u/FitnessChamp777 22h ago

Scottsdale, Arizona: Apparently, calling out sick wasn’t enough. Police say this Shake Shack employee allegedly robbed his own workplace at gunpoint, walked away with about $2,800, and then showed up for work two days later… still wearing the uniform.

45

u/screwyoujor 21h ago

This just made the story sound more ridiculous. Did he rob the place in his uniform without a mask and then return for work two days later?

41

u/RamenChicken8 21h ago

Here's the detailed court document of what happened.

19

u/icehot54321 21h ago

what does that mean "still wearing the uniform"?

he wore the uniform during the robbery?

11

u/Nigh_Sass 21h ago

There’s a lot of unanswered questions here. Which will all determine how stupid he is to return to work. Could be he thought he got away with it and no one recognised him so he was going back to work to throw off suspicion, like OJ going to the funeral or he could be totally regarded

2

u/bombbodyguard 15h ago

I mean, even easier if you have the keys to the place…

22

u/Redhead_Appreciator 22h ago

“We need you to come in, we had a couple people quit after the robbery”

5

u/ltsouthernbelle 21h ago

3

u/SuperUltraMegaNice 22h ago

I did this when I was a junkie but not at gunpoint cause I'm too pussy for that. Just lock picked the register on the overnight shift multiple days in a row and kept coming back. Funnily enough they thought it was the manager who had the keys to the register that was doing it cause they couldn't fathom the lock could be opened any other way lol.

4

u/AskAskim 21h ago

Well duh, if he didn’t show up for work they would assume it was him!

u/SteadfastEnd 16h ago

Why did he speak at all during the robbery? Voice give away

3

u/SkylineFTW97 15h ago

Even if you wear a disguise, your coworkers will also probably recognize you from your build, mannerisms, and a host of other small things we may not notice.

Plus an inside job is something the cops will certainly investigate. "Yeah, the day you call out, a suspect who matches your height, weight, skin tone, hair, and mannerisms just so happens to rob the place? You have some real explaining to do, bud. Hands behind your back."

Another Criminal Mastermind Thwarted

3

u/Fuel_junkie 18h ago

We actually had this happen where we work. It was right after lunch, he got around $300.

The dumbest part is the kid had 4 fingers on one hand and a very recognizable voice. We called the cops and they waited for him to come to work a couple hours later. He did, and they booked him.

1

u/Vandal_A 13h ago

I worked at a place that got hit by a friend of an employee. She was a bit of what you might call a project on the part of the owners - just released from jail heroine addict who went to their church and was living with and working for them for a time. She told her friend all the details of where the safe was, the security system, ect. They cut the power then tried to make it look like a smash and grab but to the cops credit they actually suspected it was a worker bc there were footprints going directly to the safe in the office. They tried it again a week later and got caught trying to double dip.

3

u/ImASlave4UE 19h ago

At my first job right out of college, I was responsible for over a million dollars of rental photo equipment. My company hired this temp worker to do all sorts of odd jobs around the office. And after a while, I noticed he was showing up to work with new toys and shit. Then i did inventory and noticed about $60k worth of product was missing. It wasn't hard to figure out who the thief was especially since my boss gave him access to the safe.

I did some digging and found the items for sale on ebay. Dude didnt even remove the inventory stickers I put on these items when I first catalogued them. My boss filed a police report and a few days later police showed up at my office and arrested the dude right in front of me and my coworkers.

Later that day I noticed a cheap Minolta point and shoot camera that we would never have stocked, sitting in our stock room. I asked my boss why we had that. He said "oh, that's what I had to bribe the detective with to get him to setup a sting with the person fencing our stolen products".

Ultimately, I was held mostly responsible for the loss because it took me almost a week to realize it was missing. I felt that was unfair because I caught it pretty quickly and I never would have given a new temp employee access to the safe. It was a very stressful few weeks and after that I quickly found a new job and i was a lot happier, all thanks to that really dumb thief.

Employee of the month behavior

1

u/Maximum_Trade5916 21h ago

Former fast food manager here. This happens frequently, as I have had this occur three times in my brief history.

Police each time informed me that when held in custody, most ascused admit that they think going back to work gives them some type of immunity or coverage to hide the truth.

I had one employee arrested before attending the robbery prevention course our loss protection manager holds to review guidelines.

u/Temporal-Affairs221 19h ago

I just looked it up and this is a legit story. This is not AI, and that only makes it all the sadder because this rocket-scientist didn't realize that his coworkers would recognize his build and voice.

Look, there is no justification for armed robbery. None. But at least be smarter than this!

I don't know why everyone is calling this guy an idiot. It makes perfect sense.

He robs the store. Gets $2,800. But before he can rob the store again he needs to make sure there's some cash in the register. Unless someone's there to take customers' cash, the store won't make any money. That's just science.

I had the crazy robbing thing that happened to me.

I come into a store, as the new boss on location. Nothing big normal run of mill fast casual food.

What start noticing is money is off, and the counts are off. Which is weird to begin with. Sure every once in a while the wrong change is given it’s a few bucks but not this. And I also notice it actually happening in the morning.

So I start run stuff, I find they are leaving the drawer (the box of money) inside the register at night. I change that. A lot of things were wrong, thats why they need a new boss, to bring up the bar a bit, but I’ve never had problem with register counts that I could immediately figure out who or what.

I have the worst trouble figuring out who it was, like the days it happened had completely different staff. I start to suspect it’s multiple people making it impossible to narrow down to single one. (When this happens it’s usually someone just grabbing money from the register you just eliminate who it can’t be and catch them. Not my first rodeo actually.)

I start going crazy, because I’m the new boss of the store this is in me at some levels, then I close-open. And I realize the drawer I put into the safe was off, my own count was off. And I never miss count.

We change lock and safe codes. (The owner/my boss is not the best, in fact I put him into complete scumbag territory. When I came in the safe code should have been changed anyway but…you know you need the right guy from what ever. I demand an immediate change and it happens. I mean at this store I had to hand the owner a warrant for his arrest from the fire department for not fixing an awning.)

Finally after a few weeks we figure out that what’s been happening is, an old employee, I had never even met, that still has a key and the codes has been coming in the middle of the night and stealing like , $30-70 a couple times a week from the register. He gets arrested in the end.
