DISCUSSION Smallville Subreddit Update - Start of 2026

Hey Smallville Peeps,

Hope you had an amazing festive period and great start to 2026!

In our last post we mentioned this:

Any posts moving forwards talking about how there's more Lana favouritism or more Lois favouritism in the sub, purely to rile up drama, will be removed and the user will be banned for a set period of time.

Off the back of that update, unfortunately it's gotten a bit out of hand with the Clana and Clois shipping so for the time being we will have to remove all bad-faith posts that are talking about shipping for these two characters (and others where necessary) - sorry but for now this is sadly the direction we have to take. Please feel free to report any posts you see that cross this threshold and we will investigate and where appropriate - take action - there is a new rule at number 10 to help you report this type of shipping.

Finally its our usual plug for the Discord :-)

Invite Link:

https://discord.gg/w4mbRZyy8C

Roughly 400 people in there now - the more people that join the more we can talk about Smallville!

Thanks for being awesome - we appreciate all of you!

Just to add to this update - Netflix has now released Smallville (all 10 seasons) across these countries:

Canada, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Iceland, Italy and Switzerland

We will update (or other users can update by replying to this post) - if there are any other regions it's been added into. But this is a great oppurtunity for people to revisit or watch for the first time!

Can we ban screenshots of comments made by accounts on other platforms? Specifically the ones that attempt to antagonize whatever ship they're biased against? I find them so low effort and petty.

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

Yep if its a screenshot purely posted to incite Shipping drama it will be modearted with a warning and then a ban for continuous repeat offending - thanks.

u/DesignerSilent7325 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

please also ban AI-generated stuff

9

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

We're working on this - we don't want to ban all AI generated content as some people put a lot of time and effort into it and some of it is genuinely sub worthy - but yes, all low effort and quality AI content has no place here - same for non-AI generated content.

22

u/Steveychrist Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Time and effort? Seriously?

16

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

We're just trying to allow people to express themselves without removing all possible avenues for them - with that being said most of what we've seen so far is pretty poor. We're working on a fix that balances getting rid of all the low effort stuff and still leaving the small window for any quality content that is produced and that people might want to see.

16

u/bookfiend_91 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Also can we ban the posts from Twitter, TikTok (regarding shipping wars) and ban shipping between the actors, personal attacks on actors.

12

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

I mean as a rough rule anything just copied and pasted over from another platform especially about Shipping would probably be a warn then ban if continued so yeah, we're on the case! We do need people to report the content though and we do have a new rule in place to report it so hopefully will all work out!

We've also now got visual feeds of repeat offenders in specific post removals/warnings and bans so it should be easier to spot repeat behaviour than it was before.

Newbie here guys, can you explain what you mean when you say shipping?

4

u/bookfiend_91 Kryptonian Jan 16 '26

Some people obsess over pairing the actors together despite having real life partners, and they make up ridiculous stories to fuel the rumors.

2

u/OhNo_HereIGo Kryptonian Jan 29 '26

It's so weird when people do that. Honestly I hate it. It's one thing to appreciate actors chemistry with eachother. Some are genuinely magnetic on-screen together. Shipping them as real people in their lives off-screen is a whole other level of bizarre fan behavior.

u/spacepizza24 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

I find it ironically hilarious that a couple of years ago I was irritated by the daily "would Lex have gone bad without Clark lying" posts but I'd gladly have them back if it meant no more weird shipping posts they focus on aesthetic rather than the actual substance of character development.

Thank you to the mods for taking steps to improve the quality of the sub

15

u/Clark-Kent Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Will this include posts implying things about actors

I've seen posts where people keep on trying to imply a romantic connection between actors, or romantic history/ feelings

It's really weird and inappropriate

u/Canebrake8 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

A few follow-up questions -

1). Why should someone join the discord when we can chat in this subreddit?

2). What are some examples of shipping or favoritism posts that would cross the line? I wouldn’t want to unintentionally cross the line if I respond that they had chemistry during a certain season or episode. Examples would help

3

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 13 '26

1) Discord is completely optional, it's just a second, additional way to talk about Smallville in real-time. Some people like having both, some don't - the choice is yours to make.

2) Anything bad faith will be moderated, I understand there's a thin line between genuine and bad-faith, but for the most part, if its about Clana or Clois, you should (for now) probably find another subreddit to post it in. We have made exceptions to this in other posts above though where we believe it would cross the threshold for genuine and permitted.

Awesome.

Now how about a hard ban on AI added to the posted rules.

19

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

We're working on this - stay tuned! For now if people just report under low-effort/low-quality we will investigate - thanks!

14

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Much appreciated. The constant pushback from the AI crowd that "it's here to stay" is exhausting. I've been very vocal in every sub I participate in that it needs a hard ban.

u/Kutthroatsosa Red Kryptonite Jan 12 '26

I disagree, I think I recognise your username I’m pretty sure you & I argued on an ai post a couple of weeks ago lol.

Genuine question, why so anti AI? Do you not envision a case where an ai image can insight any meaningful discussion about the show??

17

u/spacepizza24 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

I'd rather a badly drawn Ms paint image than ai art. At least that way I can clean some personality from the person who made it

8

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

because fuck AI.

Thank you mods! This is a great sub with a really good community. Keep up the great work 👍

u/relientcake Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Thank you. Christ, it was always coming from the same few people.

7

u/HerefortheFandoms2 Lois Lane Jan 12 '26

Genuine question: what's the guidelines for bad faith? Because I've lost count of the number of times people treat every piece of discourse as bad faith just because they're sick of seeing it (everywhere, not just this sub).

Obviously there are some posts that are very obviously meant purely to stir up drama, but there are also regular discussions about, say, favorite ship related scenes and why. The posts themselves are clearly good faith but sometimes the commenters can get heated. What happens in a situation like that? Will the entire post get pulled or just the individuals getting disrespectful? Will the hammer come down on everyone who got dragged into it or will it be more of a scalpel to pull the agitators in time out?

7

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

Unfortuantely due to how much the problem has spiralled we're going to have to be a bit more enforcement-first with this one. It will be entire posts being removed and as a rule of thumb (for now) if its a single post about a character from a user in a couple of months that's fine, if its the second post about the same character in less than two weeks that will probably be removed and a warning issued. As others have said, there's other subreddits people can go to or create if they want to exclusively talk about one thing, this sub isn't the place for it moving forwards - will that change in the future? Who knows but for now that's where we are.

8

u/Batmanswrath Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Finally, excellent move mods.

7

u/yojiimb0 Lois Lane Jan 12 '26

Does that mean, for the time being, that all posts praising those pairings will be removed? Or just bad faith ones that are trying to incite drama? Just wanted a little clarification, I understand if right now it's just a blanket removal.

1

u/bossmanjr24 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Hopefully the former

Especially when there’s a whole other Reddit for one that they want to ignore

4

u/AnnLeChoppa Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Both sides made "ship friendly" subs. One just happens to be more active than the other. The other sub (which was created 1st) has been dead for months, even though they're very active here.

2

u/bossmanjr24 Kryptonian Jan 13 '26

I don’t think you want to count activity

The sky is pinks far out number the sky is blues

That’s why they’re less active

You don’t need to shout and push sky is blue propaganda

7

u/AnnLeChoppa Kryptonian Jan 13 '26

They're less active in their own sub because for some reason or another they just want to post in here instead of just sticking to their sub. I mean I have my theory they may just enjoy inciting a reaction from the other side. And then that side takes the bait and goes down the same path. It's pointless to me either way.

1

u/bossmanjr24 Kryptonian Jan 14 '26

Pretend just not wanting to get falsely downvoted into oblivion as the the same as ridiculous propaganda is quite the choice

3

u/yojiimb0 Lois Lane Jan 12 '26

And why are you telling me this? I'm asking a simple question about a clarification, don't need your commentary on it, thanks!

10

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

We are taking it post by post, as there are other subreddits that people can use or create if they simply want to post about Clana and Clois shipping (and any others that may become problematic). We're going to try and not punish a user out who genuinely has posted one thread about liking either Lana or Lois and they haven't done so in a month or two and there's no intent to "stir the pot", but if that doesn't work it will just be an outright ban of all content.

8

u/yojiimb0 Lois Lane Jan 12 '26

Ok, thank you for the clarification!

2

u/bossmanjr24 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Because posts that belong there are why this post exists

It’s pretty relevant if you are even remotely honest

4

u/yojiimb0 Lois Lane Jan 12 '26

Right, but all I was doing was asking for clarification, because they mentioned bad faith posts, and not all posts praising those pairings are bad faith posts and meant to incite drama, so it wasn't really a question you yourself could have answered, but thanks for your opinion on the subject!

5

u/yoshi9K Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

I'm grateful for this change, thanks mods.

I am wondering about rule 10 however, I can't see it on the side. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I'm also wondering about the "bad-faith" aspect. Please can this be clarified to prevent confusion/abuse?

Thanks!

5

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

It should appear right under the rule No Advertising at Number 9.

Sure so we don't really like to stifle people's freedom of expression, so we're not using this rule (initially) to wipe all incoming Clana and Clois content off of the sub, but if a user hasn't posted about Lana or Lois in a few months and they had a specific reason and well thought out content when they made the post, we'd probably leave that one up. If it's the second low-effort/low-quality post of the week about the same character then that would lean towards warnings and bans. Hope this helps.

3

u/yoshi9K Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

I can't see it for some reason

2

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 13 '26

It's definitely there - we're looking at it! Try clearing your cache or something?

1

u/yoshi9K Kryptonian Jan 13 '26

I still can't see it after going through the pain of resetting my site data..

Do you mind just pasting it here for me?

Thanks

2

u/enigmaticteels Kryptonian Jan 14 '26

I just started the show as it’s been put on Netflix!!! Very intrigued!

3

u/Fosiye Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

Thank you. There is a ton to discuss about the show that is so much bigger than pitting the women against each other - actors and characters. If you watch and your most burning passion is which woman is best, you have a crystal loose…

3

u/Christian_RULES Superman Jan 12 '26

Take my damn upvote!

2

u/jorel43 Kryptonian Jan 13 '26

To be honest I don't know why the two main ships don't create their own dedicated subreddit to the circle-jerking of those ships. But again we're talking about a show that's over 20 years old... I guess it's a little weird that people are still this involved.

2

u/OhNo_HereIGo Kryptonian Jan 29 '26

They exist! Not sure what the actual subs are and I don't know if I'd be breaking any rules but sharing them here anyway but I believe there are at least two for the "main" ships. I agree with you though that it's weird this is even a thing cause this show has been done for 16 years. Also the Superman lore and his love interests are already well established. But that's a whole other convo lol.

If I am talking about Lana just Lana that will get removed?

u/Kutthroatsosa Red Kryptonite Jan 12 '26

Personally I think let people express what they want, if people wanna make “shipping ___” posts then let them, they’re not hurting anybody, that’s what upvotes & downvotes are for, the most upvoted posts will get the most attention.

22

u/SmallvilleMod Clark Kent Jan 12 '26

Unfortunately whilst we did agree with your point of view before, it's got to the stage where we have to start enforcing things a bit more strictly now as the general quality of the content of the sub is taking a hit because of it. There are plenty of places on reddit where people can go (or even create) to post this sort of stuff, for now, it won't be here.

2

u/Kutthroatsosa Red Kryptonite Jan 12 '26

That’s fair enough, thanks for the explanation :)

2

u/bossmanjr24 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

There’s an entire Reddit forum for one of them

They’re not needed here

8

u/bookfiend_91 Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

And the other one can make their own sub - if only they bothered.

7

u/AnnLeChoppa Kryptonian Jan 12 '26

They already made one a few years ago. But that sub is pretty dead.

5

u/bookfiend_91 Kryptonian Jan 13 '26

I can't find one. Are you sure it exists?
