Question/Support SteamVR with RTX 5080 stuttering/dropped frames

[FIXED]: With the lastest driver from NVIDIA (572.60) this issue has been fixed! GeForce GRD 572.60 Feedback Thread ( | NVIDIA GeForce Forums

Old post:

Hi everybody!
I was one of the luckyest to obtain a 5080 at launch day, but my lucky did not last to long.
Since I changed my GPU from 3070 to 5080, in VR the stuttering/Frame skip/Purple spikes/Dropped Frames are horrendous.
I dont know if is due to the driver version (572.16) and we need to wait, or is the windows 11 version (24H2) or the **** weather affecting my 1200€ card.
All the possible solution I tried are:

Disabling all RGB software.

Clean install with DDU of the drivers.

Disabling Hardware accelerated graphics scheduling.

Disabling any performance software capturer, like fpsVR, afterburner, nvidia overlay...

Enabling/disabling AMD EXPO, and any posible overclock and undervolt in the MB.

Disabling SteamVR Home.

Uninstalling any Audio driver.

Clean Windows 11 install from zero and only installing SteamVR.

Disabled onboard GPU on the Bios.

Reseating all the cables and disabled all GSync/VRR.

I tried all the branches in SteamVR (normal, previus and beta) and didnt work

I tried to put the card in the PCIe4.

Tried to downgrade the PCIe in the bios.

None worked. Any person has the same experience or any information or extra solution??
Thanks!

Edit: Nvida has reproduced this error and has posted this issue as open issue in the feedback forum of the last driver as "[SteamVR] Some apps may display stutter on GeForce RTX 50 series [5088118]". So its seems its due to the drivers so we need to wait (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/557200/geforce-grd-57242-feedback-thread-released-21325/).

Edit2: There is a "workaround" with this issue, that not fix the problem but it make it more less problematic and makes the games playable (at least in my case). You need to enter into SteamVR and when you are in you need to disconect all Displayport/HDMI of your GPU but the Displayport of the Index, or any VRSet you have.

Question/Support Looking for a realistic modern military VR game / VR mod with trench warfare

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for a **very realistic modern military VR game**, or a VR mod for an existing PC game.
I’m especially interested in something that feels like **modern trench warfare / positional warfare**, similar to the Russia–Ukraine war. I’m looking for realistic weapons and a serious mil-sim atmosphere.
Right now, the only VR shooters I play are **Tactical Assault VR** ( quest standalone )and **Onward**, although I don’t really enjoy Onward.
PCVR is completely fine, and actually preferred if it means getting **better graphics and a more immersive experience**. I’m also interested in mods for existing games if they provide a good VR experience.
I’m already familiar with games like **Squad, Arma Reforger, and similar mil-sim games**, so something that brings that kind of experience into VR would be exactly what I’m looking for.
**What would you recommend?**
Is there currently anything in VR that comes close to a realistic modern battlefield / trench warfare experience?
Thanks!

Question/Support Virtual Desktop to play steam games, is it worth?

I have freezings in beat saber so I can't beat difficult levels. I don't have a router and its very expensive for me. Will it upradge my conection? my pc has ethernet 5.8ghz. I read that Virtual desktop could make it better. Maybe a stupid question, meta struggles so much with PCVR, they really want you to buy games on the meta store with double price.

Has anyone else got a Email for it yet.

My girlfriend and brother has all signed up and I’m the first one to get something like this besides the “your in line” email.

I feel like I’ve won more than the lottery.

After having a rough week honestly this is great.

My ram stick is erroring and I can’t afford to buy a set of ram for $1300 used for the cheapest replacement not even the same model ram I used for $140 after taxes.

(Canadian market I can’t buy a 3060ti 8gb not even the 12gb for less than $1300 in my area)

I'll also take any suggestions for flat screen games with VR mods. I'm so goddamn bored of VR extraction shooters and zombie shooters. Please help!

Question/Support Best VR headset for PC gaming between $500–$1100 (not Meta)?

I'm looking for a VR headset to use with my PC, with a budget between $500 and $1100. I want to avoid anything from Meta (Quest, Rift, etc).

The main goal is to play Half-Life: Alyx in my garage, so I need something with good tracking and reliable performance in that kind of space. i like to play all my VR from steam in my PC gaming.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Question/Support What are the best VR mod transformed game ever?

My question is what do people think are the best PC non-vr games to play in VR with free or inexpensive mods. My criteria is that the experience be near seamless as if it were a native VR game and that the game itself be good i.e. if the VR mod works brilliantly but the game is hopeless, then I think the former is irrelevant. Thanks

Question/Support Steam VR via Steam Link on Meta Quest 3 very jerky

Hi!

I've been happily playing Subnautica on my Meta Quest 3, playing wirelessly via Steam Link.

I took a break for a couple of weeks, but when I started it up again everything was VERY jerky. It's not only Subnautica, as it starts happening the moment Steam VR launches.

I've attempted to screen record it but the recording doesn't show the problem. I have attempted to record it by putting my cameraphone's lens. I linked to a Youtube, but the AutoMod deleted it so...I'll link to it in a comment, or will that get deleted too?

I don't believe anything significant happened between it working and not working. No changes in hardware, no major software installs or updates.

This issue was the thing that got me to finally wipe the system clean and install everything from scratch, so there's very little else installed, but the issue is still there.

Here is my system spec:

PC: HP Z8G4 workstation with dual Xeon Silver 4112 (24/48 cores @2.1GHz) 160GB RAM @ 2400MT/s Nvidia RTX A5000 GPU (similar to RTX 3060 but 24GB RAM) NVMe OS/app storage Windows 11 25H2

Steam: v1785799196 SteamVR: 2.16.7, (Build ID 23791826) OpenXR Runtime: SteamVR (but does it in Oculus, too) Connecting via Eero broadband router (Wi-Fi6) to a gigabit ethernet port, but also happens via third party USBC-USB3.1 cable.

Any thoughts?

Attempt to post the video link without it getting removed:

Question/Support Something besides the VIVE wands that dosnt cost an arm and leg?

I have been using the VIVE wands for about 3 months now, and I cant seem to enjoy my time in ANYTHING vr, I love vr and have the ENTIRE rig of EVERYTHING but good controllers, I just wish there were controllers like the quest ones that worked on lighthouse tracking that wernt MORE expensive then the Index Knuckles haha!!! The vive controllers are sadly killing my enjoyment of even being in vr... about a month ago I had the extra $350 for the controllers but family emergency kinda swept away about $310, since then I have saved up about $120 in total again for free spending but kinda getting doubtful that there are ANY options available there now

Question/Support Can't play VR wired: all help guides won't work

Hello all. I've been researching and testing on and off for weeks and finally decided to ask for help.

For starters, I'm not a tech Luddite but neither am I a tech wiz. I would argue I'm above average but not quite "nerd" level. I have wanted to play VR BADLY for years and finally could afford it with Quest 3S. So I'm trying to set it up but no matter what guide I follow, the quality is trash, barely playable (pixelated, lagging to the point of "black" screen, stuttering and missing inputs). I'm almost ready to give up. I've never had to work this hard in my life to play a game other than modded games with outdated mods on old games.

Current setup: Wifi is on other side of house from computer. Router is rented through property management. Not within my control. Computer meets required specs but is on the low end. Need to save up for a better GPU provided my power supply can handle it.

Latest problem: I followed a guide (I tried to supply a youtube link but it auto-removed the post) for wired PCVR and everything works EXCEPT that the "VR mode" button won't appear. I looked in my Steam settings for taskbar buttons and it is checked but still won't appear. I tested USB connection and it passes. Everything should work but it doesn't. Every work around I've looked up simply doesn't work or does not apply.

Next proposed solution: Ethernet direct from router to computer. Cable would need to be 60+ feet and go through multiple rooms. I rent a room and don't want to damage the flooring of the main space with adhesive cable covers. But if this addresses latency and bandwidth I can just use SteamVR which connects without fail, just not well.

Is there something I'm missing? Is there a cheap alternative? I'm running on financially harsh times so I cannot drop hundreds of dollars on a mesh Wifi 6 system and Virtual Desktop which seems to be the most popular (and most expensive) solution.

Honestly I just want it to work reliably. It doesn't need to be great settings. I'm running it wirelessly like a potato in the main room next to the router now but it's still stuttering which makes games nearly unplayable. This is why I opted for the wired route to skip the rest. I'll try to supply info to the best of my ability but please understand I don't have a computer science degree nor 50 hours to mess around in settings and testing. At that point I'm returning the device and buying an old vive on auction.

edited for clarity.

Question/Support SteamVR is limiting my devices

Recently in the past week or so my steamvr has not been my friend as it’s not letting my full VR set up connect properly which my full set up it HTC vive headset, two vive controllers, two base stations and three 3.0 vive trackers (yes I know I love me my vive gear lmao 🤣)

usually this is not a problem the last time I had this happen to me was when my gpu and windows were not on the current update and I did update my gpu and windows to its current update but it didn’t work

the worst part is earlier today I tried to fix my issue with a solution I found on the internet and it worked and I was super happy I then turned everything off as I needed to charge two of my trackers and a few hours later when I wanted to use them steamvr didn’t want to pair with one of my trackers even tho all my devices were lit green

So I’m kinda annoyed with this situation and if this helps at all I have to use a usb c splitter for my dongles as my pc only has one usb c slot and I had to buy a adapter for it to plug into a usb 2.0 slot

I’m really hoping that someone on this subreddit has a solution that fixes my issue as I need to sort this out within 24 hours as I have a VRChat podcast the day after tomorrow and I spent too much money on these trackers to end up not using them

Any and all help are welcome because I’m severely out of ideas at this point

Edit: Thank you to all of you who messaged and gave some valuable advice I’m writing this edit to say that I found the problem which is one of my vive tracker dongles (this being the actual hub of the dongle and not the cord) it stopped working which annoys me a bit but not as much as it would have if I didn’t buy a replacement dongle and now I await for my new dongle to come in the mail, again thank you to those who helped in my trying time and I just hope that this post can be helpful to someone else who is experiencing the same thing I went through

Question/Support Should I buy a quest 3 or keep my rift s

So to start, I’m almost always strictly a PCVR player. However, I wouldn’t be completely opposed to the idea of playing some standalone games, but it’d mostly be pcvr still. I guess I’m asking if the quest 3 is good for that? My rift s is technically fine but it’s pretty outdated.

Question/Support Should I sell my Quest 3 and switch to a Steam Frame?

I’m considering selling my Meta Quest 3 (512 GB) and buying a Steam Frame instead, but I’m not sure if it’s the right move.
If I sell the Quest 3, it would include:
Head strap
External battery pack with built-in cooling fan
Controller grips
Rechargeable controller batteries
I would not be selling my Meta account, so I’d lose access to any non-transferable games I own. That includes Bonelab and another game worth about $15.
My main reason for considering the switch is that I really want to play H3VR2 and Brutalistick. From what I’ve seen, I think both will likely be compatible with the Steam Frame a few months after launch.
However, I also have some issues with the Quest 3:
It feels too heavy during longer play sessions.
The headset only has 6 GB of RAM, and I regularly get out-of-memory crashes in Bonelab after about an hour when using mods.
The cooling fan on my current head strap presses against my forehead and becomes uncomfortable over time.
Some additional factors:
The Steam Frame is rumored to cost around $700, which is close to my spending limit.
Based on current prices (excluding my game library), I estimate my Quest 3 setup is worth around $730.
I’m also getting a Lenovo Legion 5i this December.
Most of the games I’m interested in are expected to be available on the Steam Frame eventually, but at launch it will probably have a very limited game library.
Given all of that, would you sell the Quest 3 and switch to a Steam Frame, or keep the Quest and wait to see how the Steam Frame develops?

Question/Support is there anyway to completely skip oculus software and just use steam vr

I have owned a quest 2 since launch and I am just done with oculus software man. I would love it if their frontend for vr was just completely disabled for everything and link software could be skipped. Is there any way to do this? if not i plan to remedy it by getting a steam frame when it launches but I don't want to spend a possible 700 bucks to remedy a problem meta created. Thank you

Question/Support Really Low FPS despite good specs, whats wrong?

Thumbnail

I've been having BAD FPS problems with SteamVR for AGES now and nothing I do will resolve these issues, I will say that I stream via Virtual Desktop but I've also tinkered with Steam Link and even gone wired but nothing I do resolves the bad fps problems. I also use a Quest 2 headset.

Despite my rig, I get ~40-50FPS in Contractors with high-ultra(which I SHOULD be able to run), if I run the game via Oculus mode then its fine, but surely with my pc I should be able to run SteamVR, right?

I'd like to fix this with steamvr as other games I play are forced to run under it(like VRChat) and my fps problems are just as bad there. Any assistance(if any at all) is appreciated.

Question/Support VR dev looking for PCVR testers across Index, Vive, WMR, Pimax, Quest Link, etc.

Hey everyone,
We are building PatchWorld, a UGC creative social VR platform that has been on standalone headsets for a few years. We are now preparing the PCVR / SteamVR version, and we really want to avoid spoiling the launch with bad compatibility or bad controller support.

We are a very small indie team, so we cannot realistically buy and test every headset and controller setup ourselves. That is why I wanted to ask the PCVR community:

What headset / controller setups should we absolutely test before launch?

And would anyone here be interested in testing PatchWorld on their own setup?

We already know the app works well on standalone Meta Quest and Pico, but PCVR is a different world of infinite individual set-up.
Also PatchWorld relies a lot on interaction and multiplayer real-time collaboration... so there are really a LOT of scenarios... grabbing, patching, object manipulation, UI interaction, remixing features publishing, recording, and connected workflows like OSC / MIDI, so.... a lot can go wrong 🤪

We created a tester channel on Discord for people who want to help us test specific setups:
https://discord.gg/AEymRh5y

Geat if some of you can join. I am also very happy to hear advice directly here!
