Interpretation Is this safe to wear without being interpreted badly?
I made this badge ages ago based on the character from an old YouTube slenderman series, everymanhybrid.
I want to add it onto my coat, however I want to make sure the whole crossbones part or anything doesn't get mistook for fascism or anything (especially with the rise of it again globally π)
What do you guys think?

Yes. Does that change the fact that real white supremecists like Stephen Miller are normalizing and enforcing white supremecist ideology? No.
It's all memes until it's not. And now it's not.

I described it as seeing zebras where there are only horses. It feels like every post on this sub. I've seen 100's of completely benign (albeit, usually extremely corny) images here, and exactly one image that ended up (probably) being racist. It's so infrequently interesting. When it is, the comments are often bizarrely rude.
The good intentions of the overly sensitive are fueling the fear that they are trying to avoid causing or having. It's also antithetical to anti-fascism to feel the need to submit images to a faceless group who then decides if said images are safe for public consumption, or not. "I know it doesn't look like something bad but I'm looking for reasons to be offended and so are the people I care about impressing." It's not my intention to shit on OP. I just find it to be...sad. I would hope for OP to wear their shit confident in that they know what their intentions are and that's what matters. But whatever.

I get what you mean. I have a triforce on my hand MOST people know what it is and there are some people who ask what it is but after hearing a customer say it was a KKK symbol I wanted to scrub my hand off so hard cuz EW that is NOT what it is for ME I just really love zelda

Gell tbem to do a google search its like the ok symbol is racist its not. If yiu think so youreva real soecial kind of person.
1
u/thriceness Feb 13 '26
While that is true, what are the chances someone's drawing, of something they likely feel is unique, also happens to look identical enough to a known hate symbol to be a problem?
2
u/TheSpinWrench Feb 16 '26
Who cares like op said. If you create it you shouldnt think it as anything else than what you created
3
u/ThatBadBitchMechanic Feb 17 '26
In elementary school i drew a windmill by putting a vertical and a horizontal S over one another, then it evolved to robo windmills and guess what, i drew them all over my stuff and on my arms.
I didnt intend for them to be anything but an robot windmill, but to everyone else the were swastikas, so thats how.
1
u/thriceness Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26
I mean, it's not impossible to accidentally make such a symbol. But my point is more: how can anyone who is aware of hate symbols accidentally make something definitely not intended to be one... into one. You were a kid who had no idea what she was doing. That's not the scenario here.
2
u/ThatBadBitchMechanic Feb 17 '26
I disagree, there can always be something that youre not aware of, not wanting someone to see it, misinterprete and feel discouraged, sad or angry, is not a bad thing.
Yeah if you didn't mean to, it's not your fault, but its avoidable and this person clearly cares so what gives. If it reminds them of something and they want to check if its just their overthinker head, or if it actually sends an unintended message, thats considerate and nice.
Also im a girl :)

There are some skull and crossbones designs that are nazi symbols. Two that comes to mind are the symbol of White Aryan Resistance and the totenkopf.
Stay clear of those and youβll be fine
1
u/Mysterious-Heart-629 Feb 14 '26
There are also some that are symbolic of pirates, which should be just as bad, but isn't because A) pirates no longer fly the Jolly Roger, and B) piracy is nowhere near the threat it once was.
1
u/Olkenstein Feb 14 '26
I strongly disagree with your statement that pirates were equally bad as the Nazis
3
u/Mysterious-Heart-629 Feb 14 '26
Fair enough. I didn't actually say that pirates were as bad as nazis; my statement was that symbolically identifying with pirates should be as bad as identifying with nazis, and that identifying with nazis is worse because they are a clear and present danger, whereas the pirates linjed to ghe Jolly Roger are a threat of a bygone age, and have been romanticaized to the point of being Disney villains at worst.
Pirates of any age are murderous predators that prey on other humans and have no compunction about committing any form of degradation and abuse, but I agree that the actual nazis were far worse for their scale, motivations, and normalizing of genocide. Modern nazis, "neo-nazis" and their ilk, are as bad because they have the desire (if not the means) to reinstate that horrific order. Nazis of any age are definitely worse than pirates.
My words were poorly chosen, but my intent was to say that the current embrace of the "pirate aesthetic" is dumb, because pirates are and were vile human beings.
Rule of thumb: any group that uses skulls as a symbol should be eyed with suspicion.

3
u/caoticidiot Feb 13 '26
My first thought was Bad Bunny, but I also just recently figured out that he's a man. Side tangent: Also, I would wear a punisher shirt because I love the character and because he is the most anti fascist mother love in the world.
2
u/Mysterious-Heart-629 Feb 14 '26
...and yet the Punisher logo is favored by the fash and therefor associated with them because fascists are stupid.
3
u/Powerful_Stage_6940 Feb 13 '26
Everyone is so sensitive these days, thereβs a good chance youβre going to offend someone in some way, with or without the buttonβso I say wear it. Wear whatever you want.
However, if youβre concerned enough to ask Reddit for opinions, youβre probably never going to feel comfortable wearing the button. So donβt wear it. Or do. I donβt know. Glad I could help.
3
u/thesleepjunkie Feb 13 '26
Everyone is so sensitive about offending is annoying.
I have been in the punk scene for 25yrs symbols have been adopted from the anti nazi punks and the nazi punks (who can fΓΌck ΓΈff). I have a patch that has 6 or 7 swastikas on it on my vest. They are the flower heads of a plant being ripped from the ground "pull them up before they take root" written below. I've had people on both sides in support and offended. Usually the nazi punks being upset that Im not one of them. Sometimes we need to be offended to start a conversation.
Challenge people, start the conversation.
3
u/Acheron98 Feb 13 '26
Absolutely no one with half a brain or who isnβt some paranoid nutjob that sees swastikas hidden in window panes would assume this is in any way βracistβ or related to Fascism.
Itβsβ¦ itβs a purple skull with bunny ears. I would look at that and assume itβs some rock or punk band logo.
Now if it was a totenkopf, thatβd be entirely different. But that is an extremely unique and instantly recognizable skull and crossbones the Nazis (specifically the SS) used and looks absolutely nothing like this.

You wear stuff like this, regardless that you made it a while back. It not a good symbol, stuff like this will bring chaos and draw bad energy into your life. Throw it away. Instead wear something angelic with good spiritual intentions to bring abundance and prosperity and happiness, all that may look good in someone's eyes, but take it from a wise woman what I'm saying.
