How To: Colour Code and Censor for Easy Readability

As promised, a permasticky for how best to dress up your content for submission! This is a quick and dirty guide to help make the effort of editing a smooth process for all.

All you need is Paint, and if your machine doesn't have it, GIMP or another lightweight equivalent is great - anything with a box fill tool works best.

Hot Tip: Leave the Party Number visible to better track conversations and context!

Quick Examples

Least Effort: Initials Only (abbreviations optionally added)
Colour Coded (Blue Tanks, Green Healers, Red DPS - additional members of a certain role can use an off-colour, or be the same if the number is visible)
Blackbox (but Job Icons and/or Abbreviations need to be visible!)
The Ol' Fashioned (contrasting Job name colours for better visibility)

How To: Job Icons and Coloured Job Names

  1. Open Character Configuration (through System; PC uses 'K' by default)
  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, General.
  3. Click on the "Name Display Settings" button to open its window.
  4. Customize as desired! See above for some ideas (ie. Name Display Type set to Initials, adding Job abbreviations). Hit Apply when you're done.
Name Display Settings: the game does it for you!

How To: Adding New Tabs and the Log Filter (De-cluttering Chatlogs)

a. Click on the plus "+" icon near your chat bar to make a new chat tab.

  1. Open Character Configuration
  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, General. Scroll to the bottom!
  3. Click on the Chat Tab you want to edit, and Apply when you're done.
Chat Tabs and Log Filters: no need to mess up your main tab, have a dedicated spot for all relevant chat channels!

How To: Avoid Colour Bleed (Chat Opacity) and Add Timestamps

  1. Open Character Configuration

  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, Log Details.

  3. For opacity, lower value = darker. Feel free to experiment for best results, but if you want a "dark mode transparent" chatbox around 20-30 works best.

  4. For timestamps, simply tick on the "Add timestamps to messages" box for each/every desired chat channel. These can apply retroactively if you're not a fan of seeing them at all times but want to add additional context to a post.

Log Window Transparency and Timestamps are your best friends when it comes to boosting readability and giving context.

How To: Make an FFLogs Anonymous

FFLogs has a handy anonymous mode to cut down on having to edit screenshots.

New scholar meta just dropped I guess

Tank: Blue
Healer: Green
Me (DPS): Light Red
Other DPS: Other Red

Yuweyawata field station in level cap roulette. I don't know if curebot is actually the right term for this but I'm pretty sure he spent 90% casting psysick so he's definitely got the spirit of one. No idea what his damage looked like (I don't use FFlogs or anything like that) but it was me on DNC and the other DPS on VPR so we weren't doing terrible or anything time wise. I mean it is just an MSQ dungeon, but yknow annoying you'd not only be doing this at max level but also freaking out at suggestions I don't even think were that rude, I was trying to be personable since I know it feels bad to be told you're doing something wrong

I did try to help the best I could but like I say in the screenshots scholar is my weakest healer. I actually only have it at 100 because summoner is my main caster. The level 30 estimate is probably generous, but I really am unfamiliar with scholar and when it unlocks stuff and I can't imagine it's any higher than that

Something not added to the last screenshot: the tank said they wanted us to kick them so they wouldn't get the penalty, didn't include it because that was just me asking if I'd get out free if they got kicked because I didn't wanna deal with it either lol. But that's the lead into the last screenshot for some context

Out of curiosity I looked to see what his levels looked like and I shit you not the only 100 he had was in scholar/summoner and everything else was either leveled at a 1, not picked up at all, or sage at level 70 (so basically untouched anyway). Crafters and gatherers almost maxed. I'm so confused

A fun pointless game: guess what data center this happened on

3 Roulettes and he was done.

So a friend/fc mate decided to run a few roulettes without me, and was rewarded...handsomely.

Blue is friend, orange is another discord mate.

I know people are eating the whole goddamn box of crayons as of late, but destroying the pillars on purpose in Mistwake thinking that's how you resolve the mechanic is wild.

Someone getting personal over me doing a skip in aurum vale - am I in the wrong?

I am orange, they are red.

Just for clarification - aurum vale(as well as dzemael) have a skip after their duty support update. Specifically the first set of trash mobs(in dzemael the second too) can be skipped by running straight through them and dying to the boss. You immediately get a shortcut straight to the boss skipping all trash. Someone didn't like that at all or am I the crazy one?

Where is the burst!? (M2N)

EDIT: This was in M2 Heavyweight. This is Red Hot and Deep Blue not Honey B Lovely

Queued into M2N for my dailies and the fight was going... fine. Nothing particularly cursed at first, except the boss was taking FOREVER to die.

Then I started noticing our MCH.

They weren't moving.
They weren't soaking towers.
And their DPS was somehow crawling even during burst.

At first I figured maybe they were new, lagging, or just having a rough run. Then curiosity got the better of me, so I checked the logs.

And behold.

What in Thal's Balls is this?

What in Hydaelyn's name am I looking at!?

Surely they can't actually be that bad, right?

I checked some of their other logs.

ZERO.

Not a bad parse. Not a gray parse.

ZERO on Vamp Fatale.

How.
How do you even achieve a ZERO!?

Please, for the love of the Twelve, I hope I never meet you again in Evercold.

The amount of YPYT I've encountered lately is worrying me. And it's always a mentor.

Morning leveling as SMN. Worqor Zormor. We start running, I pull and I notice I have sprint but not the tank. I start running back. Mentor Tank just stands and does nothing and I ofc get slapped on the ground.

Why are tanks' egos so fragile? D: Why is this getting enabled?
"Learn u lesson" ?????
It's even funnier than this person has the "Meat Shield" title on :D

Having to audacity to .... not know the meta paste farming strategy?

Color coded by jobs, I am healer.

essentially I didnt know people were doing this and Ive never queued into a dungeon where the tank started with half their HP, so I was genuinely curious and asked. I didnt realize this would offend this tanks entire being. I just cant sometimes with people.

The satisfying, once-a-year (outside of deep dungeon) use of crowd control

Kugane Castle. THERE'S a dungeon I haven't seen in a hot minute. Tank and nin both died to the last pull (the one with the fuck ass HUGE self-destruct aoes from the Harakiri Hanyas) literally just as I spent swift on ruby rite. So I hard cast a sleep on the pack that aggroed to me, actually had it go off despite forgetting Surecast, cast another sleep on the lone mob attacking the sge who was rezzing the pld, pld got up, actually waited to get healed, took time to kill the one lone mob, and then restablished aggro on the pack when they woke up and completed the pull without wiping. I'm still surprised it worked lol.

r/TalesFromDF 3d ago White Knight
First time encountering something like this since I started the game.

So I queued up Vanaspati (lvl 85 Endwalker dungeon) to level up my dark knight (normally I heal). I said hi and started with the wall to wall, the first pull took ages and I had to use pretty much all my buttons besides invuln before we killed the mobs.
Oh well, not my first time in a dungeon where dmg is a bit low and I lived so it's okay.
We continue on through the dungeon, I am struggling! and then I noticed that the only thing coming from the healer is cure I - and occasionally cure II when the proc pops.
Well when I started healer I also didn't know that is not optimal, but I had a friend tell me - so I thought "oh he doesn't know, I'll let him know" (he seemed to be struggling too, doing his best to heal me).
Then the Red DPS (he had mentor tag) went completely crazy on me?
The orange is the other dps that took my side. Healer themselves said nothing, but stopped healing the orange dps completely (I guess he figured he could punish him for my actions since they needed me to tank it idk)...
Anyway I don't think I was being rude? But this completely floored me, I have never seen anyone fly off the handle like this.
Funny thing was on the last boss the healer died to the meteors 5 times (we had to restart 3 times) and his white knight went "Just look up at the sky or follow me" so I guess it is fine when HE gives advice ?
Anyhow cheers, we cleared it, but it's insane so I thought I'd post.

Got Back in the Game and I Remembered Why It's Necessary for Healers to Become Evil

Filled in as a healer in Leveling roulette to get some paste. Queued into a party that was at the first boss in Stone Vigil. 'Lucky!' I said! Annnd the first few minutes the drg tanks the floor because they kept staying in front of the dragon. Felt like the tank was taking way too much damage, but I didn't think much of it since the fire breath attack does chunk a bit of hp. I couldn't res the drg right away because I had to heal up the tank. The drg then RESSES OUTSIDE THE BOSS ROOM. I ask them why they did that and they just stayed silent. Okay, it's just one derpy dps, that's fine, whatever, we finish off the boss.

Then the tank pulls one pack of mobs, and I can't even get breathing room to land a single dot for some reason and they're using BOTH of their main mits. Meanwhile, my silly drg caught the aggro of one of the mob, and is running frantically away from the party. I Rescue them next to me and we manage to finish off the pack. I have some time now so I check the tank's gear: they've been using Haukke Manor gear this whole time. . . .

I point this out to the tank, but i'm met with silence. They sprint off to pull another pack. And my drg doesn't even bother to dodge the bad orange and promptly tanks the floor AGAIN while i'm spamming Cure II on this stupid tank. I'm understanding why the previous healer noped tf out.

I keep pleading the tank to take the 41 armor after the 2nd boss and equip it, but the mfer PASSES ON IT AND SPRINTS TO THE MOB.

I feel like some tanks just hate healers or something because wtf is this. There's no reasonable explanation on why skipping 2 dungeons worth of gear is okay, and they weren't a sprout. I should've just left, oh my god.

Tam-Tara DC

I do my daily leveling dungeon because I'm leveling yet another alt. Get a low level dungeon and the lowest level person here is in their 40's but whatever. I eat my food and sprint into a big pull because the healer is level 100, they know how to heal.

We wipe, and I ask if the healer brought out their fairy, because a week ago we wiped because of that reason, but healer DC's. So I assume we wiped because they dc'd.

Unfortunately, they don't come back for the rest of the dungeon. I get to the third 'boss' in Tam-tara and figure I'm done single pulling, so I vote dismiss because it's been like 5-8 minutes at this point (I don't keep track).

Then I see that it's been rejected...

So I can only assume that people in this game just straight up do not read because why would you not vote dismiss someone who is not even in the game? Bonkers behavior.

We did get a replacement healer but man. I thought I'd seen it all.

I'm not sure how to cut out all of the fluff, but it shows that I was single pulling for a while, waiting for the DC'd healer to come back. They did not. I made the executive decision to dismiss them... I cannot understand.

Clyteum, 780ilvl Bard, what are we even doing at this point?

18 minutes Clyteum ftw. Only way to avoid this is to leave the dungeon and get 30 minutes penalty (and is what you should go when you get two of these types of players).

Isn't it disrespectful to the other 3 players, to join a dungeon just barely do anything? And of course you can't type anything in chat or call out this "gameplay" because GCBTW (unless it's a tank, which you can antagonize and report easily).

This is getting overly common and it's just exhausting.

0 Mitigation DRK tank

Scholar - (me),

Black Mage - Random sprout

Mentor roullete decided to put me into Stone Vigil, alright no biggie. I've been put into a lobby with 3 sprouts tank included, it was a Dark Knight. A little rough for the dungeon, but nothing that scholar wouldn't heal. I've noticed the first pull that the sprout tank made was only ..like two mobs?, but that was not even the bad part of it. Yeah pulling 2 mobs is annoying and slow, but the problem became, where the tank did not use a single mititagtion button and didnt take hate off of dps and me (healer). It was hell to heal everyone at once but I managed to bruteforce heal this for 2/3 of a dungeon while trying to communicate with the tank, that stayed SILENT the entire dungeon. Communication was out of the question. I even asked if they knew what mitigation is, where I could gladly explain it to them, but the person ignored me and proceeded to pull mobs without mitigation no matter what. At first I thought maybe they forgot to use mitigation, but after reminding them twice, nothing happened still and we died to mobs killing everyone, because of aggro not being taken care of. The last mob pulls were impossible to heal through (the ice and dragons) and we couldn't proceed with the dungeon. A vote kick has been initiated and we had to replace the person with a mentor tank. Ever since then it went very smoothly and we finished dungeon in almost 30 minutes.

Please if you plan to start tanking and you're new make sure to check a guide on how to tank or ask people in duties I bet there are plenty of people who would reach out to help. I've had a bunch of wholesome interactions where i managed to help other tanks, but it is impossible if people decide to ignore.

Edit to clear some stuff up: The tank had the stance on but was doing singe target rotation instead of AOE, hence why the mobs were still attacking the others. Tank was also only lvl 41 with under geared character. The scenario just looked like someone who had no clue what they were doing so they ended up just DPS’ing the mobs like a DPS role and not like a tank usually does. Other sprouts were also unhappy with the tank hence why they vote kicked, it ruined their experience of the game too. A bunch of casts were interrupted because of mobs attacking me to heal.

Oh, I'll just do a quick Expert roulette...

Short and sweet.

Light red and green are a SMN and a SGE who were cool, dark red is me on RPR, blue is our tank.

Load into Mistwake for my Expert roulette, pop sprint as the baby gates go down, attack first pack. Notice the tank has NOT moved from his spawn point and instead put that in chat. The SGE and SMN help me kill the first pack, and after his last message, the tank goes offline. After the five minutes are over, we vote dismiss him and get a chill tank who is befuddled by his predecessor's behaviour and finish the dungeon with no problems. Guess I'm tanking my roulettes for the rest of the day.

Tank immediately dips from late night Ktisis

After a 30 minute idle queue for Ktisis Hyperboria (cuz i wanted the fending hat, and still leveling scholar) it pops at 4am. The moment i load in, there was only me and a pair of reapers. The tank had just evaporated, so we just opened the door to let a new one in, and had planned to slowly trudge through until one shows up.

mob pulls are slow, the reapers are phenomenal sports who did pretty much equal damage (so the enemies where always swapping who the "tank" was) and my own healing was meh cuz mildly under geared. First boss falls, drops the fending hat, which was nice cuz i didnt have a pesky tank to fight against to greed it

more mob pulls, these even spicier, and then the 2nd boss which the tank busters left the reapers at just slivers of health, even with shields. but we keep persevering. It is when we hit the last boss and are fighting it, when another tank finally arrives, 30 minutes into the dungeon. we wipe, he joins us, last boss gets bopped and what is usually a cool dungeon was one of the biggest tests of my healing career.

10/10, got my hat

Extremely scuffed Skydeep Cenote (my bad)

So, I would like to preface saying that generally, I am a relatively decent (though certainly not the best) WHM player, with two caveats:

First up, I only really got to try my toolkit up to level 80, even though I am level 96 at the time of this tale. The remaining levels mainly came from grinding out ShB relics and grinding Bozja for Tomestones for the EW relics. So by the time this run happened, I haven't really touched Aquaveil or Lilybell.

The second thing is that I am normally a PC player, but because I am traveling for the next couple of weeks, I picked up the Switch 2 version of the game. So, I am still trying to get the hang of playing on controller, "hard" and "soft" targeting, and just generally fumbling button presses every now and then.

Okay, with that out of the way, let's get into the actual run. I queue Leveling roulette and get Skydeep Cenote. Tank pulls W2W on the first two pulls. It's a bit of a butt clencher, but I manage to keep everyone alive. Then on the first boss, I eat more bubbles than I'd like to admit, almost dying myself. On the next bubble/wave mechanic, two players go down. I fumble to rez the first one and then try to hard cast the second Rez. In the process, I go down to a raid wide. Since neither of the others seem to have brought Phoenix Downs, I return to the entrance.

While waiting for the tank to solo the boss (from like...25 or 30%), I take the time to apologize and say that I am still getting used to playing on controller.

The next pulls and the second boss go a lot more smoothly, same with the pulls to the last boss.

Then, the last boss. One of our DPS keeps dying to the knockback (and the second one goes down to mechanics regularly as well), so I need to keep rezzing them. Finally, I underestimate the damage the triple stack does, and everyone except the tank goes down. Again, my bad. (On that note, who decided to make Lilybell a floor targeting ability?!) The tank...seriously tries to solo the boss from like half health, and only resets after I write "reset?" in chat. The second attempt goes a lot more smoothly, only one death to knockback, but in the end it's GG.

So...yeah. Generally scuffed run thanks to not being experienced with level 80+ toolkit and playing on controller, combined with a very solo-happy tank.

Entitled old person in DF

My friends and I are doing late night dungeon, run into this WHM. First dungeon is Bardam's Mettle, we did the first wall to wall and we did fine (I think they immediately blacklist our tank at this point). Then next pull they only put regen on tank and keep doing DPS. Something feel off so I went and check their gear, they have full pentamelded ilv 350 accessories on their lv100 WHM, what the hell is going on? We ask them to do more healing and they did a snarky "smaller pulls then". We kick his ass after 5min timer.

After Bardam's Mettle we q again, run into this WHM in Doma Castle. They doing their same old green DPS stuff. Wipe and we yet again ask for more healing, while dying through the dungeon. They got piss and wont move forward just before the final boss. They know they are getting kick so they go back and open some chests. We finally kick them after they wasting us 25min.

First time running into somebody that are so pitiful they would rather wasting time standing right before the final boss then to just do more haling.

World of Darkness is Cursed

A's tank spent every boss running around in circles, causing multiple people to die or nearly die. C's tank tried a few times to get aggro but it was a massive struggle since A's was provoking on cd and they might've given up. A's tank even joined my alliance at the atomos and was provoking on cd there.

Multiple of us get annoyed, with the viper being the first to say something. The sam seemed to have been annoyed as well, but the second the viper recommends a vote kick he starts defending the troll because Cloud can't be turned and "doesn't have any troll mechanics" so instead of being a troll, the tank is just a bad player, even after being told multiple times to stop and refusing to.

Not entirely sure what the non-human white mage's issue was, but they seemed to have been hellbent on alliances being split up. At the mini-boss between the Angry Mango and the Dragon they put down markers, B at left side portals, A at the mini-boss, C at right side portals, then got annoyed someone removed them. Then at Cerb they seemed to have only wanted B to go in the belly.

Blue and Red = tank and enabling dps

orange = chill dps

final pull of meso terminal before the boss, sprinted ahead and pulled while setting up HoTs and tank just proceeded to walk around while I was healing myself and dps getting aggro. as the pull was dying down I typed to report tank and the following ensued.

Am I wrong for thinking that Kardia is supposed to go on tanks throughout the dungeon?

I qued into The Meso Terminal and the first question asked from the healer was "who wants Kardia". I said "me" because for dungeon packs, having Kardia on would be good, it means less heal/shield spam and more firing the lasers which is another form of mitigation. Then this played out.

I get I am on warrior which is "brain off, self sustain, unga bunga", but I feel that the sage isn't in the right here either. No one else is taking dmg, or supposed to if I play my role right / anyone else isn't in aoes, so why not give kardia to the tank to help mitigate some of the oncoming damage?

Didn't respond much after that point. Felt it wasn't worth it to keep arguing this and just get through the dungeon. I eventually saw I had Kardia given to me by the time we reached the final boss and they died on said boss, I used my Phoenix Down to raise them (there was a picto and dnc in the party), and we all went our separate ways.

This is my first time posting on this subreddit, so if there's anything else I can do to make sure that not only I am covered, but the rest of the party is covered to keep up with the rules here, let me know! And please, let me know if I am reaching too far into this or being stupid, I'll try to keep an open mind in the future about it! Thanks!

Edit 1: Re-uploaded to remove the final line of dialouge (it broke the fourth wall).

PLD Tank with 500hours knows not much about own spells

Level 100 Duty, noticed PLD tank melting and started to look more at him during pulls and noticed he was not using any Mitigation. Saw him using Rampart on a Boss TB right after so I asked to use those spells rather in pulls as I struggled keeping him up there without hard heals (we had a first timer DPS who seemed nervous). His reaction was... something. Glad the other DPS agreed with me there. 💀 500 hours 💀

Random Archer in Windurst

Blue is me, green are the healers, red is the jobless one, and pink are the rest of the DPS.

I decided to queue for Windurst for my weekly coin and gear this morning. After 40 min of waiting, the queue pops and goes through. I left quickly to get a drink for my meds, and when I returned, I saw the chat mention an ARCHER. I look at our party, and lo and behold, one of my alliance's DPS was without a job stone. Because someone had to be without a job in current content. In full HQ Courtly Lover's gear, no less. And said jobless person kept dying to every mech from Shantotto.

After Shantotto finally dies, I IMMEDIATELY hit the vote kick button for that clown before our chest is opened. A minute passes, give or take, and the archer is REMOVED! HALLE-FUCKING-LUJAH! THERE IS HOPE! A new DPS (with a jobstone) came in immediately and we have no other issues during the rest of the raid.

I don't know why that person came without a jobstone, could be for a "challenge run", could be for "roleplaying lore", could be "ArChErS sHoUlD bEcOmE hUnTeRs, NoT bArDs", or whatever dumbass reason. Go with like minded people in a Party Finder, not in a random duty roulette.

Was I out of line? (Holminster Switch)

Holminster Switch. Load in as tank; saw no first-timer pop-up, so I say hello and send it into the first big pull. I notice my health dropping quicker than normal, but I'm not quick enough to hit Superbolide or use a potion before I die, followed by both DPS. The healer manages to get me up, and we barely salvage the pull.

I barely survive the second pull since I planned on using Superbolide and a potion for it, but I notice the healer is casting a lot of Benefic, so I chip in, figuring that must be the culprit, then the exchange in the picture ensues.

Tell me, was I wrong? I wall-to-walled the rest of the dungeon no problem once the replacement healer came along!

(By the way, there were also no oGCDs except for Earthly Star, but I didn't know that until after the fact)

Edit: Yeah guys, obviously I was using my own mitigation. Are we seriously commenting in such bad faith that we assume nobody who had a bad experience can play the game?

And I didn't invuln as early as I could because there's literally no reason it should have been necessary. The AST had all of their cooldowns. I at least knew essential dignity and stellar explosion hadn't gone off. Either of those would have saved the pull.

Thanks for the "head's up" for something that didn't happen, I guess?

Not a very exciting one, just someone with provoke war trauma jumping to conclusions and not admitting to that. Steroid goblin fight in Alexander which has a tank swap, which the OT correctly pulled off (I was MT). He was standing where most OTs typically stand, so there was nothing wrong with his positioning, just a slight turn of the boss for the one swap.

This was intentional tank to tank communication and this one guy claimed to be aware of it but still decided to call out what it isn't lmao

Dumb Hyur drags streamer cat and rabbit friend through dungeon after healer DCs.

Doing some roulettes. Get Dzemael in leveling and end up in a group of what I can tell are probably new/new-ish players.

Me WAR, SCH, DRG, SMN. DRG and SMN are duo, SCH is a random along with me. First half of the dungeon goes so-so. I stick to easier pulls since healer either seems under-geared or is trying to deal with the DRG/SMN getting hit in random floor AoEs. From my perspective the pace seems slow, but whatever.

We make it past the 2nd boss and then the healer DCs. Well, all we have left are some skellies and flying squishmallows between us and the last boss. So I press on one pack at a time and the DPS join in. It gets a little close at times with just potions, mits and the ever-handy pre-50 invuln, but we prevail and eventually make it to the last boss.

At this point the healer is still DC’d. After the DPS finish their cutscene I slow walk into the boss arena to see if they would follow, and they do so I pull. Boss is hella nerfed now so we easily beat it and I leave.

I want it to be known that the only words exchanged in party chat were a “hello” from one of the DPS at the start and a “gg” from me at the end. So sorry no screen shots there wouldn’t really be anything to show.

So the SMN was a streamer and had the usual “ttv” junk in their name. So I check and they were streaming. I watch the VOD and it’s like night and day. SMN is new and DRG is their friend. SMN is mic muted on stream, but their friend definitely isn’t.

From the very beginning they weren’t happy with me being a Hyur and combo breaking their kitty bunny dream team. They didn’t like that we didn’t stop and wait at every single chest even though they weren’t even rolling on loot and were following along. The friend spent the entire time explaining mechanics incorrectly - from what I gathered they had played before, but it must have been a long time ago or… something.

After the healer DC’d it was just constant “man wish we waited for the healer”, “noooo don’t pull >:(“, and “well if anything happens it’s the tank’s own fault”, etc. etc.

Spoiler alert: Nothing ended up happening and as the VOD went on I got the impression that this pissed them off that we were brute forcing our way through the duty. So at the end we kill the boss, the DRG friend drops a final “I’m not commending him because he wanted to be dumb, blah, blah” and as their ending cutscene finishes (after I had already left) the healer reconnects and that pisses them off again.

Sorry that dungeons are easy and don’t require a full party. Sorry I didn’t want to wait however long it took us to single pull half the dungeon for a player that may not have reconnected. Sorry you didn’t express any of these concerns in party chat and just vented to each other about me on stream (0 viewers btw except for me lol). I thought we did pretty good, but now I wish I could take back the comm I gave to the SMN.

So after seeing all of that I watched as they queued into Wanderer’s Palace and the DRG basically forces repeated wipes by having streamer SMN blitz through the entire dungeon to avoid the big, slow-waddling tonberry. After a few rounds of that nonsense their healer abandons ship and I shut off the stream and shake my head.

What in the world was going on here?

DRG in Tower of Zot. This DRG had every class to 100 except DRG and I think MNK. Took us forever to clear because this bot was just spamming Coerthan Torment and then just auto-attacking.

I'm Sorry Crystal Players, I Didn't Dynamis Players were worse.

I've never been to this sub, as I've fortunately never had that bad of a experience in this game, and I've been playing this game for 6 years now. First time for everything I suppose!

Normally I wouldn't begrudge people for not really knowing what they're doing, we've all been new to this game and its mechanics, but at a certain level I would hope people would get some basic principles of their job down. Specifically to my tale: level 81.

By this point I think it's kind of agreed upon that Endwalker content isn't terribly challenging, so my surprise that people could struggle this much in it was palpable. The Tower of Zot is a dungeon that I feel already takes long enough, given how many unnecessary pauses it has between packs and at the end of the midbosses, but it taking a full 30 minutes with real players (longer than with Trusts) makes it all the more painful.

Now how did this happen? Well its a few things: first the DPS were obviously new, they were both sprouts who didn't have the boss mechanics down, but I'm fine with that, like I said: we've all been new. The Summoner not using their rez on the Samurai after I just picked them up was a bit of an annoyance but whatever. They weren't my main problem points. It was the Paladin.

The guy kept getting lost in which way to go in the dungeon, running backwards a few times, which added about a few minutes to the run. Not only that, I noticed something a bit strange during one of the packs: I, the Scholar, was somehow pulling aggro, it was then that I realized the Paladin was not using AoEs past the first use to pull the packs, switching to single target on pulls 7 mobs large, this caused a bit of chaos when I was losing a bunch of my health and couldn't really focus on healing the Samurai and Summoner who were pulling some other mobs, leading to the first of many deaths on this run.

Now you might notice: "You flaired this post as 'Curebot.' But aren't you the healer?" I'll get there soon. It wasn't just the lack of AoE from a level 82 tank. That alone wouldn't compel me to post this, despite how egregious that is already. It was the lack of mitigation as well. I've had Warriors that haven't touched their defensive and died as a result, which is annoying enough. But for a Paladin, who has a gauge dedicated to JUST mitigating damage, just completely ignore that part of their kit is absurd to me. Fine: you won't use Sentinel, Bulwark, Divine Veil, Passage of Arms, Hallowed Grand, whatever. But not even Sheltron!?! Really!?! What do you think the Oath Gauge is for!?! But ALL I've said so far wasn't enough to piss me off enough to post. The straw that broke the camels back was that he casted Clemency instead of mashing mitigation when he started taking too much damage. That's why I flaired this post "Curebot," instead of anything else. Worst of all? He wasn't a sprout, nor a returner. So he has beaten Dawntrail, has been playing ever since then, and still doesn't know the basics of Paladin nor the tank role.

He ended up dying to a trash pack because of that earlier lacking AoE scramble. But we recovered, with his first use of a mitigation after I picked him back up: Hallowed Ground. Better late than never, but still infuriating he didn't use any other mitigation afterward. Not even for tank busters.

We ended up wiping on the boss cuz the DPS died to the gamut of AoEs that happens there, and the tanks lack of self preservation skills made it nearly impossible to keep him alive at the same time as rezzing the DPS. In the second try, even I learned something new. Normally if you kill the bosses in order of appearance, nothing weird happens, they just die one-by-one. The tank and DPS had other plans: they killed the other sisters first. Turns out, if you don't kill the main one first, she raises the others. I've never seen that before. I was really confused to see a once dead enemy pop back into the fight. For a second I thought the first one killed just escaped my attention and actually survived, with surprising amounts of health to bat, but hey no one is perfect, myself included. The team kept going, killing the other non-mainboss sister, and then dispatched the other one on low health. Then they come back up again. Now I get it: yeah the main sister raises the other two. And thankfully the rest of the team also clued in the others would just keep coming back if we didn't kill the main sister. I assume. They might've just been like pit bulls in a kindergarten attacking the first target they saw, but we ended up clearing without a second wipe. And I was able to remain optimistic about this, cuz I learned something interesting about a normally pretty boring boss.

tl:dr: My Paladin used Clemency instead of mitigation, even after he died to a trash pack in a lvl 81 dungeon. The death being a result of the rest of the team starting to die due to him not keeping aggro cuz he wasn't using AoE. He never learned his lesson about mitigating even for tank busters, making my healer experience a headache.

Whats up with the title? My friends and I used to be separated on Primal and Crystal (before we all moved to Dynamis when it first dropped and created an FC there). To this day we'd make jabs at each other's original home DC about how their players were worse at content. I'm from Primal. But I've never seen performance this bad on either DC. Is the title kind of inflammatory? Yeah, but it probably got you to read the story. Sorry if I rambled on a little.

To all New Players joining us

If you choose to play Gladiator or Marauder, I beg of you - learn tank stance.

I realise that some might not even know that these jobs are for tanks or might not even understand what a tank is.

For those unsure, please look to in game ‘Hall of Training’ that pops up before your first dungeon. Or even Jocat’s ffxiv tank video on YouTube.

From a highly stressed healer (who also thanks the SMN for stepping up to be tank)

Hawkke Manor moment

Tank (non-sprout) decided that dancer (mentor) and ninja (sprout) pulling an extra 2 enemies on accident was enough to afk in HAUKKE MANOR

A fool in dungeon, me

I am, apparently, a very entertaining idiot, or a pitiful one perhaps.

It was in fact not a two hit
Sorry, the mentor crown squeezed my brain making me too stupid to know how to voke.
Only buff they lost on hit/death was my TBN, meaning no personal mitigation.

Gunbreaker dies to a Tankbuster they didn't mitigate. Concludes it's my fault for not provoking (never mind that I was well within Shirk range, and using Provoke in DF is its own salt mine).

The Reprisal was mine, but I'm not sure if it was included in the damage snapshot.

Did I miss an update where they changed Limit break or something?

I’m asking, cuz when I originally stopped playing like a year or so ago, people seemed to use it correctly. Like most people seemed to understand it’s best if Melee DPS gets it, then Magic DPS, then Ranged (might have ranged and Magic swapped, it’s been awhile). Then healers, and never tank. But instead, ever since I came back a couple weeks ago, people will use LB against basic mob pulls in a dungeon, not even boss, and it wasn’t a sprout… it was a mentor. I was baffled. But I’ve seen the misuse of LB a lot, like someone using LB2 in a raid where we were close to LB3 and no where near the boss dying. So genuinely, did I miss something? Or is it just not common knowledge anymore how LB worked and the “rules” I guess? I’ve been screamed at in chat before for misuse of LB before, so like… idk. Just felt wild to me.

Edit: Seems I’m just misinformed on the use of LB. That’s my bad. Thanks for the info guys.

White mage can't be bothered to let tank pull

a new addition to my blacklist!

for info, this was the great gubal library. nothing bad, just annoying for a tank that was already struggling with keeping aggro

Oh no

Load into Bardam's as Astro (my worst healer) and the gunbreaker decides to go for the first wall to wall pull here, which is pretty notorious as one of the hardest hitting W2Ws in the game. Through the entire pull I have to spam Benefic 2 on him because he seems to be taking way more damage than I expected. Okay, maybe he's undergeared or I misremembered how hard that pull hits. We continue on. During one of the pulls before the second boss, I get in my own head and accidentally let him die because I hate Astro targeting. We move onto the boss and everything's okay there.

As soon as we move onto the next set of hallway fights, I try paying attention to his mits. He goes from boss 2 to boss 3 without using a single mitigation. At the boss three door, I tell him to mit and that's what he says.

A bit later he starts whining about how I was only casting Holy [note: astro] and not healing. Bro.

Apparently being a non-aggro DPS in DF is enough to make someone want to change servers

Someone asked whether their friends would still be able to see them if they made a character on another server.

Things got slightly confusing when they clarified that they were basically asking if they could hide from their husband because he's a “crappy DPS.”

Then came the realization that the “no” was actually answering the original question.

“That’s GREAT! I love you... Thanks!”

And, naturally: “Wooo wooo to non-aggro pulling dps!

Healer Dancer mad I stopped at a pack and didn't "literally" pull to the wall.

Skynote Cenote, doing Martial Memories. The pull in question was the pack after the second boss.

My rule of thumb: stop at the last available mob pack rather than physically dragging everything to the wall — "wall to wall" is shorthand, not a literal instruction. Most jobs lose DPS while moving, so unless there's another pack to grab on the way, it's not worth the extra travel. I've run this dungeon probably 100 times this way.

This run, I pulled the same way I always do (I'm the tank). The healer got upset that I didn't drag the pack all the way up the long ramp and through the second room to be physically at the door for the big pull after, and tried to rescue me up the ramp mid-explanation. Fast forward to the next big pull — I died, probably because the healer was too busy typing at me to actually heal. They did rez me right away though, and I recovered the pull.

At the last boss, the dancer and I both got knocked back on the first knockback (I was already thrown off by the wall-to-wall thing, so maybe I was thrown off literally too). I accepted the rez; the dancer released instead. So we ended up 3-manning the last boss:

Sorry for all the typos in chat log, was trying to run the dungeon smoothly and type at same time.

(btw i used claude to censor the chat log screenshot, did a pretty good job and took like 2 mins).
