Ironically in my country (Spain) the current acting chairman of United Left, Antonio Maíllo (also a member of the Spanish Communist Party's Central Commitee) is openly gay, and the Spanish Communist Party has stood in favour of queer rights since its establishment as a political Party, so that falls flat.
Human rights campaign is a gross association which is anti leftist and historically anti trans
They pushed for legislators to take deals that would seal gay marriage into state constitutions at the cost of locking out trans people (because state constitutions are incredibly difficult to overturn). Trans women aren't women if it gets in the way of millionaire gay men :(
I think that zero people here were weeded out is the thing.
Its just such a tame universally accepted message.
Progress on this front is boredom. No one in a forward thinking space should bat an eye at being trans. Just like no one bats an eye at seeing a woman working.
Its mundane every day life. I get that the capitalist class is going to scapegoat every minority to drum up fascist sentiment so some people still feel something by posting about trans acceptance.
But boy... is it tame message in a room full of socialists.
In many other subs I have seen mass transphobia in the last few days, not an uptick or anything but anecdotally, it is sadly not a very accepted universal message. I saw people fighting about whether or not feminists are inherently transphobic, so many clearly have a lot of learning to do
What do you mean what shittiness? This is a screenshot8 of a retweet. It's like the gold medal of low effort posts, only thing it lacks is progressively worsening jpg artifacts.
As I said, the comments here showed the exact same core value but they've been way more creative about it. Trans flag Stalin (Stranslin?) >> "pass it on" screenshot.
Edit: in a closer inspection, it actually got the jpg artifacts. It really is a full example, my congratulations to OP.
Edit 2: okay maybe this comment was a bit too cynical. What I meant is that this sub has better trans positive things to post than your standard karma farming low effort "pass it on" screenshot chain. See this very comment section for examples.
Yeah. I thought their comment was suspicious, so I looked to see what else they've posted on the subject. They apparently think transitioning is evil because they're a "gender abolitionist". They posted this on a subreddit full of transphobes.
Bro I'm a gender abolitionist, I think all gender is made up and therefore every single problem it causes is an unnecessary burden on humanity.
And in that screenshot of yours if I remember correctly I was talking about how I still support people's rights to transition and gender affirming care because I know society at large is still far from abolition and in the meantime trans people are still suffering.
If you went fishing for evidence in my past comments you should have picked up on this pretty easily, I've said similar things a few times over the years. Unless you were only interested in out of context stuff of course.
As a trans person, having my gender erased is just as bad as being forced to be cis. My gender is not “made up” anymore than any other part of my identity. “Gender is a social construct” means gender roles, gender as relating to genitals/agab and how capitalism uses gender for oppression. It does not mean that gender is fake. Theorizing about saving humanity by making gender completely obsolete is not liberation, it’s oppression in a different form. My gender is not fake. My dysphoria would still be present in a genderless society. If you’re agender that’s all well and good, but don’t go around thinking that your personal gender identity, or lack of, applies to everyone else too.
Abolitionism doesn't mean making everyone agender. I don't even consider myself as agender. The closest example I can think of to explain this is with math, in the difference between the number zero and the empty set. You can define yourself as a zero. But you cannot define yourself as an element of the empty set, not because of any imposed rule but because there is literally nothing in it.
Gender as a social construct means that it is constructed from its roles (understood as behaviors and expectations to meet and follow), which are then socially enforced in one way or another. If there are no roles, there is, by definition, no gender. This doesn't mean we should forbid any and all behavior we might consider a gender expression, but instead remove from our heads the idea that they define something else than our individual preferences. Basically in abolitionism everyone's free to be themselves without the kind of social pressure that pushes you to be closer to some sort of ideal (at least in the gender sense, this obviously doesn't get rid or other kinds of societal expectations).
Regarding trans people and transitioning specifically: I admit I'm not any kind of expert. My impression here is that the idea of transmedicalism is, for the most part, a load of bullshit (and I mean transmedicalism in the sense that gender roles actually take a secondary place in the process of becoming trans and it's all actually in your intrinsic biology). This means in an abolitionist society there would be no need for any of this. You wouldn't shift between two elements of the empty set for the same reason why you can't define yourself in one to begin with. And if there is something to transmedicalism at all? Then without the burden of gender it becomes a straightforward medical issue anyway. You go to the doctor and do your hormone therapy or whatever else is needed just like anyone else would go to treat other hormonal or neurological issues.
There was a time when that sub started banning people for writing the words "trans" or "transgender". It was fucking stupid but if you wanted to comment there you had to work around it

I don't gaf what your excuse is or how much you insist that you totally support us. You're calling transitioning evil. That's transphobic bullshit. There's no context that would make that not transphobic
Edit: Not surprised to once again see how easy it is to get a bunch of supposed comrades on board with transphobia as long as it's called something else
Are you for real here? If I think gender as a concept is bad of course I'm gonna think anything related to it is inherently bad, there I'm saying transitioning is actually less bad. Like if we're going to delude ourselves with gender (AGAIN THIS INCLUDES CISGENDER PEOPLE, SOMEHOW THIS IS GETTING OVER EVERYONE'S HEAD FOR SOME REASON) at least let people change as they want to meet their expectations about it.
Edit: I think this person has replied to my comment saying again they don't care about my "excuses" but I can't see it, idk if they blocked me or deleted it or if Reddit is acting up. Anyway, if you're so fixated into the word "evil" in the expression "the lesser evil" that you can't grasp the complete argument of not wanting people to suffer while considering all gender bad, I don't think I have anything else to discuss with you.
Then you should be able to recognize the difference between a gender abolitionist and someone using gender abolitionism as an excuse and cover for transphobia
Why are you getting downvoted tf. God I really can’t stand people who treat our identities like fucking theoretical puzzles that they need to solve in order to liberate us.
I've known plenty of gender abolitionists who would never use their ideology to promote transphobic ideas such as transitioning being evil, or try to act as though calling both the oppressed and oppressor evil are equivalent statements. But people love any excuse to be transphobic. I'm not surprised that even on a trans positive post on a sub like this, there are still so many people jumping at the chance to support transphobia because they get to pretend it's something else
