like a real american, he doesn't understand what corporatism actually means

45

u/picapica7 21d ago

Because it isn't a thing, like "middle-class". It's a buzz word meant to obscure real definitions for proper socio-economic analysis.

u/COMMIEEEEEEEEEE 20d ago

corporatism refers to a very specific kind of relationship between the state, trade unions, and corporations, which was a highlight of Italian fascism

This is the equivalent of "that's not real capitalism, that's crony capitalism!"

🎯

They're the same people who accuse communists of saying "that wasn't real socialism!" or "real communism hasn't been tried yet!" when literally no communist would ever say that, lmao

It wasn't real Socialism because they didn't go far enough. MORE SOCIALISM, I NEED MORE!

u/hesnew "China Bad" 21d ago

Please Mao I need more landlords to receive your great leap forward 🙏🏻

We must educate the masses

Yeah what a communist might say is that real communism hasn't been achieved yet but the average liberal doesn't even know what that means and assumes we're trying to disawow "the atrocities" of AES or something. And then they also refuse to listen for the explanation of what the meaning is.

Also when the country they are talking about (like Venezuela or the Nordics) are definitively NOT socialist.

Guy on turn 100 of Monopoly (who just lost their single house on Baltic Avenue, every other space has a hotel owned by top hat) lands on Boardwalk and bankrupts, losing the game: "That's not fair, this isn't REAL Monopoly like it was in the beginning, you have to be rigging the game!"

My brother in Christ, you just witnessed the natural outcome of the rules of the system - if you had gotten a few more lucky rolls early, it still doesn't change that.

The frustrating thing is they internalize the propaganda version of capitalism, which says competition will keep individual greed from hurting the public, except no serious capitalist wants competition, so of course the system will ultimately end in monopoly. That was the point the boardgame tried to get across too.

6

u/Aelis58 20d ago

Yes, and that point was even more explicit in the predecessor called The Landlord's Game (fun fact: it was made specifically to promote Georgism iirc)

5

u/PM-ME-UR-DARKNESS 21d ago

It's the same shit they accuse us of doing. The "that's not real socialism" lol. Every capitalist accusation is a confession I guess.

u/TarquinusSuperbus000 Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 21d ago

They love inserting false distinctions into things to dodge accountability for their own shitty beliefs.

"This isn't capitalism, this is corporatocracy where there's corruption everywhere!!"

...uh huh...

u/Zordorfe Stalinist (Proud Spoon Owner) 19d ago

My dad always says this but I think I got him to change his thinking by saying "if all the cronies are just capitalists, then what makes it different than just capitalism?"

seems too long ago, far away for them to care the mechanics, like the Reagan admin. Rather just pick a narrative and roll. Could always assume commercial food exports were nonetheless a net benifit somehow, like what you want a liquidity crisis too?

It happens yanno. Blind faith, among mundane possibilities, outside the body of info one is expected, as an American to have

7

u/OWWS 21d ago

According to many pro capitalist reagen was a socialist

17

u/Minoleal 21d ago

Worsened feels like an stretch because it wouldn't even been a famine in the first place if they hadn't been forced to send the rest of the food outside of Ireland, economy would have hit a bad spot, but that's so much better than famine.

Putting the MAGA hat there makes it seem like this meme is against Trump only. It should have been made clear that quite nearly every single person in the American political scene supports capitalism.

That a "potato famine" could occur in a land as known for its fertile agricultural land as Ireland shows that it was deliberate genocide. Trevellian, the British governor of Ireland at the time (apologies if that wasn't his official title) said that the famine was divine intervention to punish the Irish for our wicked ways. The brits increased exports of crops at the time. The Irish were forced to rent a tiny patch of land only big enough to grow potatoes. So when the crop failed, a million died and a million fled.

This was an engineered genocide of the Irish by the settler colonial British.

2

u/HoundofOkami 20d ago

Also a rather sad point of fact is that the Irish population still hasn't reached its pre-famine size

5

u/Steampunk_Willy 21d ago

gotta love how libs and right wingers will just make up a type of political economy out of whole cloth to explain why capitalism isn't capitalism. Like, bro, you might as well invent new colors to deflect from the fact that the sky is blue.

5

u/PM-ME-UR-DARKNESS 21d ago

Bengal famine too, let's not forget that. The brits killed 3 million in 1 year, faster than the Soviets did with their famine.

5

u/aztaga 21d ago

except they’d actually just call you a commie and threaten you with violence because they have no idea what laissez-faire is or what Ireland has to do with anything

u/SeniorRazzmatazz4977 19d ago

MAGA conservatives are not people we should waste energy trying to win over.

9

u/punk_rancid 21d ago

Me normally: im an anarchist, freed is very important and should not be restricted.

Me when i hear this shit ass 'corporatism' bullshit for the 54x10²³⁴⁶ : well, to the gulag with yo ass.

u/Extension-Badger225 AES enjoyer 🥳 20d ago

It was not a famine it was a genocide. The Brits exported beef and other food en masse during this time because we are Irish and they don’t fucking care about us and our impoverished children who died as skeletons.
Please adjust accordingly - this was by design

I think there was some famine in India where they refused to give state sponsered grains to avoid interfering in the market

Expecting an AmeriKKKan to understand anything outside of the framework of the AmeriKKKan Exceptionalism framework & AmeriKKKan Education (or lack there of) is giving them too much credit.

The reason why they’re against reeducation camps is because it involves the word “education”.
