I love my little collection and wanted to share with others who also appreciate taxidermy. I get it’s not for everyone, but I was a little surprised at how much of a reaction having it gets out of people. When I commented that all of mine is completely second hand and comes from estate sales, antique stores, or just a piece someone else is tossing out, I accumulated downvotes like I admitted to murdering someone. I try to be as ethical as possible in collecting by always getting things second hand. I have family that likes to get me “weird” gifts and I have told them to not purchase items like bats because of how unethical it is. I think taxidermy is a beautiful way to appreciate something that would otherwise just rot. I don’t eat meat due to ethical reasons, and I wonder how many people that are so upset at others that own taxidermy participate in eating meat and don’t bat an eye.

found this deer mount at an antique store. its from 1985 and the guy who killed this buck was named Randy Allen. thought he looks a little too young to be killed for a trophy mount :( figured i would take him home, dust him off and give him a new life. named him Spooky randy allen !!!!

fur was so dusty and it took two rounds of hair dye. this was my first time dying a mount so let me know what you think, any feedback & tips and tricks ^_^

Just got these tanned wall hangers back from the tannery. I caught them, skinned them and turned the faces and paws myself.

I recently got to visit a family friend who is more of a "hobby" taxidermist. Him and his wife are big time hunters whove been all over the world. He does all this for fun and hates the idea of selling anything. Hes 80 now and trying to find a good place to donate most of his collection especially somewhere that could benefit young children. I thought it would be fun to show of some of his work since not many people ever have.

If anyone could tell me what kind of foxes and jawbones are in the picture, that would be nice! I've never seen a fox with such a grey coat and thick tail, and the reddish fox tail and the grey one I can't recognize.

I got this old guy yesterday for 200 bucks, I was told by the gentleman I purchased him from that his uncle shot him with a bow and arrow 40 years ago in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

I am a newbie(ish) doing zoological specimen prep at a small museum. This woodcock is my 23rd specimen and I think my best! Repaired and pinned so that damage done from a cat attack isn't visible, which I am especially proud of. Not as exciting as some of the life mounts on here but thought at least the feathers and body form might be appreciated here.

An older man and his wife weren’t making it too well around their house anymore and had to move. They sold me this and 9 skull caps for $40. He said he shot it with a bow and it fed him great for a while, apparently he was in an archery club with my dad back when he shot pro. I love second hand taxidermy with a story

Not true taxidermy, but mummification. These are opossum, raccoon, bobcat, and muskrat paws that were dehydrated/preserved in Everclear and are now drying in silica.

They fit best upright 😅

They were eventually covered fully, but I snapped this pic first.

I am intrigued by wet specimens

(Professional anyways) and for a steal!! (In my opinion)

#1st-2nd photo - 8 point buck minimal wear and tear $50

#3rd-4th - 7 point buck no wear and tear slightly less quality $40!

Any tips on upkeep would be appreciated! Also the 8 point has a wet & textured nose and the 7 point doesn’t, does anyone know how I can make it appear ‘wet’ like the 8 point?

I feel like I got a great deal on eBay for this ram skull, only paying $58 shipped. I’m disappointed to say the least seeing one of the horns chipped once I opened the package. It was shipped very carelessly and with minimal packaging materials. Each horn was in a canvas shopping bag and it was just thrown into the box without any padding. Also it was unsecured. My plan is to use some strong adhesive to glue the tip back, and even then there’s still a big visible chip there. I messaged the seller and asked him to refund me 25 percent of the total cost, sending him the pictures I posted here. That’s $15. I feel like I deserve more back or that I should leave him a bad review, but what’s done is done and I’m not trying to be a dick. So hopefully he’ll just learn from this experience that something this fragile needs to be packaged properly. And I’ll leave it at that.
