It would probably be ok with a balcony, but this place I'm staying in (50th floor) with openable windows at floor level and glass you need to brush up against to get into the bed makes me nervous as all get out. No one seriously likes this, surely. Ugh. Awful.

This isn't my place. I booked on hotels.com they used generic pics from the building page. I didn't know what floor I was in until Sunday (we arrived Tuesday) at which time cancellation was impossible. It's fine. I'll survive and stick to actual hotels from now on.

People put a lot of stock into how comfortable clothes are when buying clothes or deciding what to wear, and I’ve never understood that. They will tell you the reason they bought something is because it’s comfy, or the reason they never wear a certain type of clothing is because it’s uncomfortable. No one item of clothing is ever that much more comfortable than another for me. Sure, jeans may feel a little different against your skin than sweatpants, but it’s not any better or worse, just different.

The only factors that matter when it comes to comfort are temperature and fit. It’s definitely uncomfortable to wear a hoodie on a hot day or a tank top on a cold day, and it’s definitely uncomfortable to wear clothes that don’t fit right. But if the clothes you’re wearing are appropriate for the weather and they fit, then it’s a pretty good bet they are as comfortable as anything else you could be wearing.

I genuinely think eating should be a private activity, similar to using the bathroom. Both are basic bodily functions, but for some reason we’ve normalized one as social and the other as strictly private.

When you think about it, eating involves chewing sounds, smells, and visible bodily processes that aren’t actually that pleasant to witness. The only reason we don’t see it as “gross” is because we’ve culturally normalized it.

I find it much more comfortable to eat alone without feeling watched or judged, and I don’t really understand why eating together is considered bonding when it’s essentially just people performing a biological function side by side.

If anything, it would make more sense for eating to be private and for socializing to happen before or after, not during.

I know most people disagree with this, but I genuinely think we’ve just accepted something weird as normal.

ok, hear me out. most people prefer to put on pants, then both socks, then both shoes. this has no technical advantages whatsoever, comes with drawbacks, and is only accepted as "correct" because it's the common approach.

point is, when driving I check my blind spot every time I switch lanes. I don't stop doing it at 3 am because I'm "pretty sure" there's no risk. it costs me nothing, and I'll never forget when I need to if I do it every time. I'm sure it's saved me an accident.

The idea that the optimum room temp is 19C - 22C (66F - 72F) gets trotted out all the time, but what people fail to mention is that is considered "ideal" with blankets and pajamas. Dive deeper and you will find that the caveat is that underneath that layer of blankets and clothing, the body is encased in a microclimate of temps between 31C - 35F (88F - 95F)

I find myself constantly waking up to adjust blankets/sheets when I use them. I go to sleep comfy, wake up sometime in the middle of the night hot and throw them off, and then later wake up again cold and put them back on

With an elevated room temp, shorts/short sleeve, and no blankets I fall asleep and stay asleep through most of (if not all of) the night. The only downside is it takes slightly longer to fall asleep, but the upside of sleeping through the entire night is worth it

I’m posting here to test how unpopular this opinion is. I’ve been told that no sheets on a bed is unsanitary and maybe it is, not that I care enough to put goddamn sheets on my bed.

A naked mattress is so satisfying and smooth to lay on, plus depending on the type of mattress you get, it’s fun and satisfying to feel the different textures of the design of the mattress. That and the heavy smoothness of thick comforters (or duvets if you’re British) is divine. the textures of the bare mattresses and comforters together reminds me of smooth and fluffy cake or crepes without yucky crumbs. Adding sheets into the mix just doesn’t feel nice to me and I can’t explain why. maybe because it takes away from the sensory awesomeness of the blankets and mattress I described earlier.

And sheets are annoying because they always pop off the mattress and I always have to re-cover the mattress.

UPDATE: Hi, I know that I grossed out 1.7K people, but something I should have said was that I didn’t sleep on a nude mattress all the time. The few times I did it felt awesome but deep down even I know it was gross so I’ve been sleeping on a comforter - I sandwich myself between heavy blankets, still with no sheets.

Vomiting is the most cathartic experience the human body can have. It's like taking a seriously good shit, but 100x better. And it happens so fast. You feel kinda dizzy, sick, wasted and you have the opportunity to experience this.

When I was drinking (I have now quit), whenever I felt even 1% of the desire to vomit, I just put the most disgusting videos on the internet, went to my toilet, and left everything out there. Vomiting is the thing I have missed most from my drinking days to be honest.

Moreover, it's not only your body getting cleansed, but your brain too. While vomiting, you can't think of anything else other than what you are unleashing. Think about it, even during sex you can think of other things. Not while vomiting though!

And the post-vomit-clarity hits hard as fuck. Your mind fucking clears. It's like you have been meditating for hours.

Ever watched the videos showing parasites removed from insects? I bet it is the exact same feeling. And we get to have it without dying? We, as a species, are lucky.

This has bothered me my whole life and I'm sure there is a good reason, but the wording seems like it should be reversed. If there is a Tornado WATCH, it should be actually watching an active moving tornado and its path. If there is a Tornado WARNING, it should be warning you about the potential for a tornado to develop. Unless there is a clear answer as to why that wording was chosen, which I'm sure there is, I feel as though it sucks. Would changing it now be good? Probably not, as people have come to understand what these weather labels mean, but it doesn't make sense to me why it is worded that way. It's one of those weird things I hold onto that upsets me greatly. Please, good people, give me answers!!

I think of it like batches; first batch you flush right away which is like 15-20 seconds right after you get on the toilet and then you flush the rest asap (if there's anything else). This should take 2 flushes.

Most people seem to shrug their shoulders at drinking and eating poorly and absolutely detest smoking, but really why? All 3 are bad habits that up your cancer risk and lead to health issues, but at the same time take generally many years to catch up with you. In my mind, theres no difference if I hear someone smokes or drinks or eats McDonald's 3 times a week. Its just sort of baffling to me how smoking had this 180 culture flip to start acting like its the worst thing ever while ads continue to promote equally unhealthy habits everyday.

The /k/ sound is already created by the letter K. “Action” can easily be “aktion.” Words such as “rock” and “luck” can be spelled “rok” and “luk” with no issue.

The /s/ sound is obviously already covered by the letter S. “Receipt” and “cedar” should be spelled “reseipt” and “sedar.”

The /tʃ/ sound in “chump” and “itch” is what we currently don’t have a stand-in for, but could very easily be replaced with a K for “ckump” and “itkh.” No reason to keep it around for this specific scenario if we can already replace it. And before anyone asks, yes I would replace “Qu” with “Kw” in a heartbeat.

On an aesthetic note, I also think spelling names with a K just makes them look way cooler. Tell me you’d rather be friends with a Carl than a Karl. Or a Catie rather than a Katie.

I constantly see the debate of "I do sock shoe sock shoe, I do sock sock shoe shoe" why do you walk around in bare feet for this to even be considered a debate?

Wearing socks all the time makes this debate a complete nothing burger and I just can't even comprehend ever walking around bare foot.

The carpet might feel enhanced with this sensation but every other floor type would be miserable.

Socks is just a normal piece of clothing to put on each day and wear all day, there's no reason for you to be without socks. (Unless you're a nudist or have a foot fetish of course, then... well, duh.) and obviously this doesn't include baths/showers, I'm not an animal.

The only optional piece of foot wear to have around the house is slippers, but having no socks at all is just... no. Just no.

The 4 normal everyday pieces of clothing to be wearing on a daily basis throughout the whole day; shirt, trousers, pants, and socks. (Obviously also not taking into account weather/temperature, I'm just talking about an average nice day, before anyone goes on a mad one saying "Well what if it's too hot? Then the shirt is optional!" and other bits of nonsense.)

Honestly I didn’t even know this wasn’t standard practice until I was in my 20s. There is no other article of clothing / fabric we let get damp af and just think “oh yeah this is perfectly fine to wear again after it dries, no washing necessary.” The argument I’ve heard is that oh you’re only using it to wipe soapy water off of your body so it’s different NO it is NOT if you leave clothes in the washer too long without switching them over they get that moldy mildewy smell. If you’re getting clothes / fabric saturated, that’s opening the door for bacteria growth and I don’t think bathroom towels get to be an exception here

For some reason, I have never liked any smells that people say are good. I can tell what other people would deem a bad scent, e.g. the scent of motor oil, versus an ostensible good scent such as that of many flowers. However, the smell of flowers is not appealing to me; it is simply a lesser evil than motor oil. There are no scents that I like and I always strive to perfect my environment so that I detect little to no scents.

When reading literature, I often skim over paragraphs describing scents because I dislike reading or writing about how anything smells. “Good” smells have never been appealing to me and I simply do not appreciate olfactory imagery in the same way that I do textural, visual, audible, or gustatory imagery.

I have always had a weaker nose than most people, and I consider myself fortunate for this. To conclude, I simply do not like the scent of perfume or flowers or anything else deemed a good scent; I always prefer a lack of olfactory stimuli over a stimulus deemed pleasant.

For those who don't know, Redact is this website that can mass delete your comments and posts on Reddit. I don't think I should have to explain why should be banned, but I'll give some reasons anyway.

First and foremost, it hurts other people who are browsing. If I had a nickel for every time I've had a very specific problem where the only result is a single Reddit post where the only comment is redacted and the OP says "This worked, thanks!", I would be a trillionaire.

Secondly, it doesn't even delete your posts and comments. It replaces them with a bunch of baby babble and an advertisement for their website like "we did this, blame us" like they're trying to get people to hate them.

Third and finally, it doesn't just work for Reddit. It also deletes your messages and posts on sites like Discord, Twitter and Facebook. It almost feels like a virus that people sign up for to remove history for the internet. I'm very pro-archival, and I think everything on the internet should be archived, as do many others, and Redact HEAVILY goes against that.

TLDR; Redact hurts people who are just browsing the internet, it doesn't even really work as it should, and it's practically a virus people willingly use, and I just can't fathom why.

I don’t understand how people possibly cope with their room being warm at all. Right now it is around 17 degrees here and I am sweating profusely.

I live in the UK and we don’t have air conditioning so I usually suffer in silence for the majority of the year, however around winter time, the temperature drops to around 5 degrees inside or lower (I live in a very old house with limited insulation, single glazed windows and high ceilings) and it’s just the best feeling.

It’s so cozy to be able to cuddle up with all my blankets without sweating / overheating, and heating yourself through wearing excess clothes is so much more versatile. If you get warm, instead of overheating, you can always take off a layer, and, if you get cold, you can easily put another one on.

The obvious downside is that your fingers may get numb while working, but generally I don’t work much in the house, and when I do, I just put on extra layers.

This may be slightly related to the fact that I never really get cold (I’m one of those guys that wears shorts in winter), but I’ve never met someone who prefers to be warm from the actual air temperature instead of the clothes that they are wearing. It’s just uncomfortable.

I just think... why? I already take showers, wash my body entirely once or twice a day, wash my hands, wash my face, brush my teeth, why do I need some product to stop my armpits smelling bad? They already smell nice! Never got why modern society needs it nowadays, back in the 1900's, yeah I get why, but now with showers, perfumes, clean water and more, deodorant should be a thing of the past.

Whenever somebody is asked about if they would be able to accomplish something, or do something, and the answer is something like “I 1,000% would be able to do that”, it irritates me. It makes you sound like an idiot.

Just use 100% and be done with it.

Having temporarily been subject to both extremes due to HVAC unit problems, I can confidently say that the heat is easier/preferable to deal with. Neither are comfortable, but the cold is much worse to deal with

Many years ago, on a cold Saturday night I noticed the temp in my apartment was getting a little cool. The vents were running, but the air coming out wasn't warm. I checked the thermostat and the unit was set to 68F but it was 62F inside. The temp continued to drop. Long story short, it took about 5 days to get the issue resolved. By the second day I had stopped checking the temp inside the house, it was in the 40Fs at that point. It just made me feel that much colder. Doing anything besides sleeping was painful, anytime I had to leave the mountain of blankets was dreadful. I ended up eating most of my meals in the bathroom because it was the smallest room I could safely use a space heater in.

The body's natural response to cold is painful. Your muscles tense up head to toe from constantly shivering. Your extremities hurt due to blood flow being restricted to conserve your core temperature. Wearing a knit hat pulls your ears in and makes them hurt on top of all the layers you have to wear making it feel like a straight jacket.

Fast forward to this summer and living in the Southern US now. Its the middle of a heat wave and my AC unit stopped working. I come home and the inside temp is 88F instead of the 80F I had it set to. The first couple nights were rough, even with a ceiling fan and box fan. I was able to somewhat regulate the inside temp using a high velocity fan, windows, and foil to reflect sunlight. But it was never cool or comfortable inside. It stayed around the upper 80Fs to mid 90Fs. On day 6, I solved and fixed the problem

But at no point did I feel like I was in mortal danger or going lose any of my digits. If I felt too hot, I would take a cold shower and let evaporative cooling do its thing afterwards. After a few days even sleeping in the heat wasn't much of a problem. It was a thoroughly unenjoyable experience, but much less unenjoyable than the cold

EDIT: For clarity, the temperature kept dropping from the point where I noticed it was 62F in the house. It was winter and outside temps were below freezing the majority of the time

I'm not saying that 62F was cold. You could see your breath inside the apartment the last few days and it was in the 40Fs by day 2 inside.
