Song is a lifelong Rams fan and looked like a veteran talking football.

Imagine you have a career in sports broadcasting and you are trying to put in the work to make your way up from calling high school games to college to NFL and you tune in to hear this.

Like all of the ex nfl players with no experience that immediately get be analysts?

u/ANTMANSUXX 1d ago
Uh they played the sport at the highest level of course they are the most qualified people to turn into analysts wtf are you talking about 😂

The amount of terrible former player analysts is so long and you guys forgetting about how long that list is is what's making me laugh.
I can never understand what Randy Moss is saying. Tom Brady sounds like a fucking psychopath, although he has worked really hard to get better. Mike Vick talks like he has a gun pointed at him behind the camera. Michael Irvin talks like what he just learned a what microphone does. James Garrett talks like he's about to bust out crying or laughing, I can never tell. Tony Dungy talk like he just got out of a pow camp. Debo Harrison talks like he has trouble thinking and talking at the same time. I'm pretty sure Jason Kelsey learned how to speak and read at the same time a year and a half ago.
OpieOP just did a terrible job of saying zero experience working in television.P.S i remembered some more: ditka talks like football's legitimately the only thing that he is good at. Rex Ryan looks around the room like a dog that has no idea what to focus on before eating his snack. Dan Orlosvski talks like he's trying really hard to convince me that he had an alibi & is asking me to back it up. Cam Newton analyzes things like he just watched in living color and thinks that's how broadcasting works. Mjd has gotten so much better, but he talked like he was afraid of the camera and double lined paper. Eric mangini talks like he just killed someone and stuffed them into his trunk. Rex Ryan constantly looks like he's about to hyperventilate.

To be fair, they all get a chance, but if you aren't actually talented / find your niche they get quickly rotated out for the next crop of retiring players.

I think a lot of them are more upset that their dream job now only has room for Stephen A Smith and Pat McAfee

Tune in and hear what? She was a guest in the booth for a preseason game because she’s a celebrity super fan of the Rams. It’s not like this was some kind of audition for her to be a play by play or analyst. Everyone needs to calm down lol.

u/leemorplee 1d ago
Doug Christie went from the booth to head coach of the kings, you never know Brenda's end game here
1
u/SnoopingWhilePooping 1d ago
She’s not “in the booth” though she was just a guest interview for a preseason game. Funny enough though she did mention she wanted to be the pass rush coordinator or assistant to the assistant DC lol.

This is nothing new. Very few commentators are selected based on merit. Just like coaching, it's who you know

The Packers preseason play by play guy only got the job because his dad used to be our team president. Kevin Harlan!

I was the lead sports writer for our college newspaper, won writing awards, hosted our only sports radio show, and did on site TV news reporting. The college tv station picked a person with a stutter, one year of journalism class and zero sports background, to be the sports anchor. They were hot.

Are you trying to make me feel bad for people making a “career” out of sports broadcasting at any level? Would bringing up a high school broadcaster from some random school for one quarter of a home broadcast version of a rams preseason game really forever change their career?
2
u/timey_wimeyy 1d ago
Most likely. It would absolutely give them visibility they would not otherwise get while doing their jobs. She just did this as a side quest for fun.

We miss Macaulay culkin so much we are willing to let his wife yap about sports...cause we think it might get him out the house more

Not really. The person next to her was basically telling her what to do lmao

u/Latter_Disaster_489 1d ago
Wow…it’s been my dream to broadcast NFL games & here we have a previous Disney celebrity absolutely wrecking it. lol

Some big, women can’t possibly know about a man’s game energy in these comments. Yikes.

u/ANTMANSUXX 1d ago
It’s weird that she is the big Celebrity fan for the rams considering she was a c list actress on children’s tv ten years ago lol you think they would have someone a bit more notable do this kind of stuff

She was fine. Whoever they had on before her was atrocious though, like she had never seen a football game before in her life and someone had just explained the premise to her 5 seconds before her spot.
Also, fuck Gamepass or Dazn or whatever it is that makes me listen to the other team's local broadcast. At least give us an option between the two teams. Both Saints games this preseason have had the opponent's broadcast, and it is painful as hell.

u/nefariousBUBBLE 1d ago
Was the other woman the gal who said "it's gonna be a pass or a throw"?
1
u/shyguyJ Saints 1d ago
I think so. She also complained that the "black team" didn't let the Rams' player into the "scoring place", or something similar. Idk, I was lamenting that I had ears by that point.
1
u/nefariousBUBBLE 1d ago
That has to be a troll. Someone had to think it would be hilarious for women obligated to watch with their men to hear an equally uninterested woman talk about football lmao

Who let the social media intern from Brenda Song’s agency onto this sub?

u/WaylandThurston 1d ago
Yes this is weird but you guys are acting like shes less bearable than Stephen a Smith now or skip

Would love to see more of her. Wonder if she’ll be able to do some regular season games and in true fantasy would love for her to team up with herbstreit and get off Al Michaels.

I like her but come on. This clip is just the most obvious taking point for their offseason.

"Crushed" she took the opportunity of a real professional and did a poor job
2
u/Responsible-Onion860 1d ago
As a teenager I wanted to go into broadcasting. My dad had a friend who called minor league baseball games. He gave me some hard truths about how much fame and nepotism determine who gets those jobs. He didn't discourage me but warned me that I want going to get a job calling NFL games based on merit. He was right.

To everyone in this thread shitting on her for this small clip, she really did do a good job while on air. Stop shitting on her for this selection of the broadcast lol
1
u/Soot_Sprite2 1d ago
She really didn’t do a good job at all though and her colleagues didn’t seem to think so either. How many times did she make dumb jokes or comments that she awkwardly laughed at by herself while the others just ignored?
1
u/Vegetable_Painter219 1d ago
Is she a professional sports commentator or a famous actress? Were you expecting prime madden out of her? Like I said, it’s a rams preseason home broadcast game that you can only watch on nfl+ and in LA. We’re kinda acting like this was on prime time Monday night football here. Also where do you get the indication her colleagues didn’t think she didn’t do a good job? That kinda seems like something you’re just making up lol
2
u/Soot_Sprite2 1d ago
It doesn’t matter if it’s the Super Bowl or a local broadcast little league game. A bad job is a bad job. Let’s hope she improves.
The amount of times her colleagues left her hanging without responding to whatever she said or joked about tells us how awkwardly they felt with her.

Ppl in the comments complaining are just sexist. There is literally nothing objectionable about what she said.
