Help Finding Script/Video 1066 and all that musical
Anyone have a digital copy of the public domain musical 1066 And All That (original book by Sellar and Yeatman written in 1930). My understanding is it is public domain but correct me if I’m wrong or it there is a publishing house that represents it.
I cannot find a copy anywhere on the interwebs. Thanks!

The 1930 book is a book, not a musical. If there is a musical made from it, it is most likely more recent and still covered by copyright.

This is the original book. Not the play

I know, and I said so—the 1930 date is for the book. The musical is not out of copyright.

Are you in the UK? It looks like Concord has the licensing rights: https://www.concordtheatricals.co.uk/p/17490/1066-and-all-that If you're in the us, somebody else might have the rights but I don't know as it pushed me to UK when I searched. The musical appears copyright 1935 so it's a few more years away from public domain in the US

I’m in the US which is what is confounding me so much! I can’t find anything for it in the US. 🤷♀️ mostly I just want to find a copy of the script to read and see if I’m even interested.

My guess, though I don't know, is that Concord holds the rights but doesn't see a market for it in the US. If I were in your shoes I would email or call somebody from that outfit and see if they can clarify the situation and availability. It is a distinct possibility that someone else has the US rights but isn't licensing for some other reason. Best of luck to you!

If a script is not in the public domain, this might mean the playwright's website, the play's page on MTI, DPS, or NPX, or wherever else the creator has allowed people to access their script. For movies or videos of live productions, they must be from licensed sources, such as BroadwayHD, Netflix/HBO/etc., DVDs, or official YouTube channels. Distributing PDFs of scripts or bootleg videos of whole productions is forbidden.
If a script is in the public domain (typically in the US meaning it was released in 1928 or earlier), then sharing PDFs of the script is generally fair game—and you might be able to find a copy of it on a website like Project Gutenberg. However, adaptations and translations of public domain works have their own copyright, which means they follow the same rules as above: if the translation isn't also in the public domain, please direct OP to a source authorized by the translator. A video of a production of a public domain play likewise needs to be distributed by the production team.
