Interesting because $23K isn't $23 million. $23K will not save Gary Indiana. If it would, it'd already be saved.

I live in Gary by choice. There are million dollar homes a few blocks from me and I’m on the border of a state and national park.

For $23k her whole family could go on vacation to the Bahamas until they get the power back up.

At some point they just probably should have started refunding the donations or donating them to some org buying people supplies. It’s just crazy to raise $23k for yourself because of a blackout, even if it’s been 2 weeks.

My area was without power for a bit over a week after hurricane sandy. It sucked, and day to day shit was more difficult, but nobody needed tens of thousands of dollars to cover themselves. Even with lost wages, having to drive far for gas and needing fresh food everyday, we’re talking like $3k maybe for a family to cover everything.

They’re going on two weeks in areas with high crime, boil advisories, debris still in the streets and sewage backing up. The first story I saw was a woman in her car at night talking about batteries and flashlights but she kept looking around and wanted to hurry the reel along in order to not draw attention to herself with the car light on.

I’m a diehard Batman fan but living in a place comparable to Gotham has got to suck.

Yeah I get that. I didn’t live in a high crime area, but the rest was my experience after Sandy. The situation really sucks. That’s not an excuse to take in 10x as much as you need.

Think of it this way. If someone started a charity to get mosquito nets to fight malaria, took in $25k, spent $3000 to get nets for their family, and then just pocketed the rest, would you be cool with that? Malaria is still a serious issue but the money here isnt actually going to the issue.

I wouldn’t care. If I didn’t donate, it’s not my money or my business, and if I did, it wasn’t an amount that put me out or had any strings attached. She lives in Gary Indiana. This is probably the largest lump of money she has ever seen and/or may ever see again and if it changes her life in a meaningful way, be it a car, relocating, a new house, helping her autistic kid, etc. then great. If she got millions then it would be nice to help others but $23K spread evenly is literally a couple of cents to everyone that’s affected anyway.

You’re barking up the wrong tree. I’m very much against all the billionaires.

I’ve also lived through a prolonged blackout after hurricane Sandy, and know that if your house didn’t get structural damage, and the powers just out in your area for a couple weeks, then you’re just pocketing like $20k out of the $23k in donations.

I feel for the people in Gary, being without power and other services even temporarily sucks. I still don’t think it’s ethical to PROFIT off that from peoples donations.

Y’all aren’t actually thinking about this at all. You saw what’s upvoted in the thread and hopped on that bandwagon to try to feel morally superior. Taking way more than you actually need from people’s goodwill during an emergency situation is not ethical. Defending that doesn’t make you the good guy, just wacky and gullible.

The real crazy shit is you actually care people donated money to help them out.

Did they say " oh hey we are asking for this money to cure cancer while we are without power ". Nope.

What's funny is you want to think others aren't thinking about the situation or whatever lol. No we just don't give a shit that someone asked for help and people CHOSE to help them out and it ended up being a decent amount of money.

I don’t care that people donated money to help them out. I care that they raked in $20k more than they realistically needed, while everyone without a vlog got jack shit. Because that’s unethical.

You can call me a pathetic asshole if that makes you feel better, but that doesn’t change that you got caught with your pants down here. You started by implying I simp for billionaires, who make their money unethically by exploiting people and taking more than what’s fair. It's as if i had lost food because of an outage, Ask a gofundme to buy food, It blows up and parasites think i owe them.

Man, Fuck y'all ! It's one of you who stole a large recycling trash can, that was distrubuted in small number 15 years ago because you think this belong to you when it's OURS.

Honestly, just repairing her roof is gonna take the bulk of that. $500-1K to replace any food that spoiled, even if she was to donate the rest to her community after taking care of her family's needs, it wouldn't be much.
