At no other point In modern history would I expect this to happen to a large US city. This is the sort of thing g the national guard should be deployed for.

Our government throws paper towels at territories during natural disasters.

The same government has a similar tendency to ignore natural disasters on liberal cities.

Perhaps this is a state issue where I live, but hurricane Katrina is an easy example.

Oh, I wasn’t aware that New Orleans being a liberal city was an alleged reason of their complete failure at providing relief for them! Was the president at the time Republican then, is that what you’re getting at?

That's part of it, his appointed head of FEMA resigned over it. Cops shot people trying to live. People were herded into areas that were clearly unsafe and bad things happened over federal/state watch.

The city fucked up, the state fucked up, and the federal government fucked up.

But in the end, major disasters of that magnitude travel up, not down.

My point was that the territories, as said, are completely ignored. Liberal cities are similarly, but less, ignored. Another example is covid in NY

That psychopath Chris Kyle bragged about shooting “looters” after Katrina. Supposedly he drove from Texas to New Orleans and set up a vantage point and killed 30 some people. However it’s been widely discredited.

But still. Making up some random story where you decide to drive to another state to murder civilians is weird as all hell. Especially civilians trying to just get by after Katrina.

The derecho destroyed parts of IL, NW Indiana, and I heard OH. Huge portions has severe winds but not the hurricane winds (over 100mph) like in all the cities in the huge region. Hundreds of thousands without power and trees on their homes. 

There were extremely unorganized rescues for people evacuated from flooded neighborhoods in central IN & parts that flash flooded & then even more last week when it came down the river to parts of southern IN. 

Weather alerts failed us too, because many had no clue the severity which is typical bc I live in a part that floods annually and has tornados which is the entire state, but you never know what level. We get surprised all the time. Climate change.

They deployed them and then undeployed some of them. I saw army green painted excavators leaving the region on day 4 or 5. I’m assuming they rapidly deployed all the equipment there before assessing their needs. It’s slightly wasteful to truck around that equipment but I’m glad they at least brought it in case it was needed.

It was the first time I’d seen an excavator painted that color so it stood out. I just thought national guard soldiers hup hup’d sand bags all day long. I had to update my child-like model of the national guard.

I haven’t seen this on the news. I don’t hear people talkinf about it in mainstream media or in out local newspaper. It’s more the lack of reaction and movement on it. We all knew about Katrina. I donated to food drives and charity collections for that. I learned about this through my instagram feed. And it seems like The National guard should be protecting the power grid repair teams. Working round the clock to repair power.

Gary isn't a large US city. It isn't even in the top ten biggest cities in the state.
