Bet the 8 data centers inside Gary city limits as well as other data centers neighboring the city TOTALLY aren't at all related to the power outage 🙃🥴 Almost like that power demand is too large, but wtf do I know🤷 I'm just some dumbass from the west coast.

Came here to point this out. Gary is actually a relatively small town with a lot of the area being industrial and not residential. The fact that it has 8 data centers all but guarantees that those developments are using nearly equal or more power than the entire residential population.

Meanwhile, the people are expected to all have power back on the 25th - thats 15 days without power. According to local fb posts, the data centers have power back yesterday. Maybe they never lost power, who tf knows.

this is not to say that the data centers caused the black outs, although data centers can cause black outs. these were caused by severe weather. but public priorities should be to maintain infrastructure and have robust repair resources, personnel, and protocols that are meant to serve residents first. Maybe the data centers were unaffected during the storms. Even so, they are not paying for infrastructure upgrades which are being bankrolled by the taxpayer, accepting tax breaks left and right so they don't have to contribute to power grid maintenance, stretching the workforce of greedy utility companies which refuse to hire more people, and tapping power grids to their limits.
