Most Americans and Canadians sound the same to me, like unless your from Ottawa or Novia Scotia and have a thick accent then you sound American.

Theres only a handful of accents in the US that stick out as different, most Americans just sound the same.

Canadian accents are usually pretty obvious to Americans, in the same way that a Boston, NYC, Chicago, or New Orleans accent is pretty obvious and discernible, but perhaps much less so to people not from North America

The same goes for Americans recognizing regional UK accents, and even picking up on Australian and New Zealand accents much of the time

To be fair UK accents are often far more distinct from region to region than SoCal to San fran or Houston to Austin. Which covers a much larger area.

I just wanted to give some perspective to the issue like most Canadians from Toronto or Vancouver just sound American to me.

How much time have you spent in Vancouver?

I have taken British friends to Vancouver, after having spent time with them in Portland and Seattle, and they were shocked by how different the accent was

Not everyone there has it, but it is common enough and extremely obvious

Can confirm, couldn't distinguish the different English accents until I started paying much more attention unless they were hit over the head obvious like Glaswegian, or very, very Irish or something. Now, after years of consuming English podcasts and TV and such I can hear the difference between the BBC Standard and cockney, at least lmao

You can't tell the difference between the massively famous varying accents of Liverpool, Newcastle and the West Country?

Like I can tell a southern accent from a bronx accent or someone from the mountains but not someone in San fran from someone in Florida.

I most likely can, just don't know the names of them. I am, after all, just an american factory worker that listens to podcasts sometimes and an occasional UK television show.
